The Jaguar E-Type (XK-E) in Series 1, 1.5, 2 & 3 guise make up today's compilation, with E-Types ranging from A1 concours cars to highly crusty wrecks and restoration projects featuring.
Which E-Type would I have? There are two versions of the Jaguar E-Type that really stand out to me, one a road car, the other very much a racing car - namely the Series 1 Fixed-Head Coupe (3.8 or 4.2, either would do!), and the magnificent Lightweight race cars. The Series 3 V12 cars, long criticised in some quarters for their bloatier appearance and (usually) automatic transmission, are also increasing in their appeal to me - they may not have the lithe taught lines of the first E-Types, but considered on their own without endless comparisons to the Series 1s, I think they have an appeal all of their own. Saying that though, with the values of good examples continuing to climb, I think I'd allocate my hypothetical E-Type budget to two or three other alternatives, such as the Jensen 541R or C-V8, or maybe an AC Aceca if funds would allow.
The Series 2s and 2+2s are less appealing to me although undoubtably they are slightly more practical and are slightly more affordable than the "halo" models. Sir William Lyons once referred to the 2+2's higher roofline as a submarine's conning tower, so even he wasn't too sure about it.
Most of the photos were taken by myself over many years of attending classic car events, some were on display at shows, while others were for sale in auctions.
You'll also find a certain red E-Type Roadster that became famous thanks to a film produced in the late 1960s.
Are you a fan of the E-Type Jaguar, or XKE as it was known in the US? If so, would you go for an open-top Roadster, or the snug cabin of the Fixed-Head Coupe? Have you owned one? Do you own one now? It'd be interesting to read your thoughts about perhaps the most well-known Jaguars of all in the comments section.
