Concrete Jungle: How Did This Happen?

This is one of those games that was made in the wrong era, just imagine this game but with an Open-World like Infamous or Spider-Man, and polish the controls you have one badass game to play, and yeah touch up the story a little bit, but not much it's hamminess is amazing.

I imagine scarface reading the rules to going on a hunt. “Okay take out targets....... do it inconspicuously ..........in the result of failure....... I do WHAT!?!?” *Attaches bomb to ship “Nuh uh”

It's not a perfect game, but the character of Scarface and his crazy spree for redemption makes you like the dude. Also he literally is the most badass Predator. With his kill-count and the variety of douches whose skulls he collected is pretty much someone hard to top. Darkblade Clan for the win.

By the way "El hongo" actually means "The mushroom", yeah the mobster in the game calls himself "The mushroom"

And yet, inexplicably, everyone I've ever seen talk about this game online LOVES it and it has a 98% "like" rating on Google. We really need a new single player Predator game.

This game was an absolute gem.

This game may not be the best, but at least it's not as downright goofy as the newest predator film. I saw it in the theatre with 3 other friends and none of us liked it.

Remember the level "Ten thousand ways to die"? I sure do, because I experienced every FUCKING one of them on that damn level. Still loved the game though. But its more of a guilty pleasure.

I didn't have a problem with it. I actually love the campy story and as for the control's, ones I figured it out everything became a cake walk. I guess its just me oh well, still love this game and still play it on and off.

For the OP: You start the game with an injured scarface after his fight with the Madman Bruno Borgia who even after been defeated has wounded scarface badly. The predator has lost his tech around the city and is trying to escape and make it to its ship but due to an explosion (a fire is started during his fight with Borgia that is blamed for the destruction of the city) and he falls and ends up being injured. Since his self destruct device will only flaten a small area around him he chances it and blows its ship hoping to save his honor and erase his failure. He survives and is exiled. Now, the reason why the rest of his clan comes down that fast is because in the movies its explained they hunt like that, so they are monitoring him and since he survived the blast he brought shame to them and so instead of executing him they drop him in scorpiofuck planet to die. Cut to some years later when they return after a young squad of his tribe ha been killed/captured during a hunt where humans have used their tech against them so they give him a chance to regain his honor and do things right. Not sure what the complain is, the story is quite decent (more than what hollywood came up with after Predator 2)

I always figured that those aliens in the scene where Scarface is left in exile on that planet were supposed to be stand ins/a reference for the bugs from Starship Troopers. As for this gameplay itself I do like using a cheating device to give myself infinite energy and health and then just dicking around the levels without really caring, no I don't mean this as a defense, it's bad. Also it's the closest thing to an open world Predator game there is far as I know which is sad. Not every game needs to be open world, but I think Predator is a franchise that would be a really good fit for a game structured that way.

Man it makes me sad watching this, I loved this game, proper loved it. I used to be at school thinking about coming home to this a tearing the skin off of people. Now I have to work for a living and don’t see games like this anymore. There’s something about remembering happy times like this that makes you wish you cherished your childhood that little bit more. 😢

This game really isn’t that bad for when it was released. It pays homage to the AvP comics of old and does so really well. (Not to mention the amazing detail given to the Predator’s animations, soundfiles, equipment, etc.) The later levels were more like puzzles than open sandboxes, (the level Ten Thousand Ways to Die will go down in infamy.) and these forced you to utilize everything in your arsenal. As for the sexism and portrayed stereotypes - take into account the time period. If these bother you so badly, I’d recommend steering clear of the GTA franchise games of the same era.

Replayed the game a year ago and I absolutely loved replaying it! It's probably the best Predator game we've gotten! Also what causes the blast would be the roof caving in under the weight of the Predator and the fact that the structure is already damaged by the raging fire inside. You could imagine that after all the stuff Scarface has endured it was most likely just the icing on the cake for him, which ultimately lead to him detonating his ship. Also if you have watched Predators 2010 you'd know that yes! Predators indeed rig their ships. Honestly the worst thing about this game is the camera angles! I mean other than that the game is quite decent and a really fun play! People bombing this game is the reason why we can't have nice things. Because now we're stuck with stupid sh*t like Hunting Grounds... Thanks! Edit: Also imagine having dislikes disabled...

Coming back to this. And how I feel proud that I was able to beat this when I was in elementary school, but a grown dude struggles with the entire game. And I still enjoy it. My only complaint is a mission BRUTAL difficulty. That mission being Escape(I cant remember the name!) But in a nutshell, you have two ways of completing it. Bash some guys to open the main doors to get outside immediately. Or, aim for the upgrades, which will give a handful of useful goodies, but in turn, you have to inject yourself with some gaming fuel (I’ve done it. It’s menacingly hard. I don’t even know how I did it when younger, I must’ve been a god or some shit) And spending the time to unlock all of the costumes, i had good memories of the game

A Predator communicating with humans by mimicking the voices of his victims is a kickass idea.

He was only called scar face after he was shot. He activated his bomb because he was already super weak, and had just fallen through the burning building, and thought he was gonna fail, but survived. Bruh.

Shoulda set the entire game in a Noir 1930s New York. That stark contrast between 30s NY versus a high tech killing machine would be dope...altho I guess that would make the game way too easy.

Honestly I loved and still love this game. Plenty flawed to be sure, but lots of fun to be had here. It's the closest I've ever been to being a real Yautja. I never really liked the PC games. I wish we could get a Predator game in the vein of Monster hunter.

This game certainly could have used a tad more time for polish as the controls could feel clunky at times... but it is such a great game!

Writing for video games is a different beast than writing for movies and... well, almost everything else. There's a chance Grant Morrison made every decision about the female characters, Predator's characterization, and all of the enemies across the game, but it's equally likely he only wrote the dialogue and handled scene progression, with every other decision being top-level or going to various department heads.

Cant say that I agree with your take on the story, I love it, if they made this into a movie I've watch it in a heartbeat. And I couldn't care less about your nitpicking around sterotypes/sexism, that doesn't bother me. The one thing I can agree with is that objectives are a bit vague, I would also recommend anyone to go through the three training courses to learn all the moves, weapons and gadgets. If you are interested in the Alien/Predator universe I would really recommend this game. :)

This review might be 2 years old but i laughed my ass off anyways on how you manage to not master the controls 10 year old me learned quick and even when 20 years paste and i have not touched the game i am still able to play with the controls without complaint XD

I don't understand why people had a hard time playing this game, when I got this game as a kid and play it to this day the controls felt so natural and smooth. One of the best parts was all the different flips and pull up animations Scarface can do as well as the many kill animations, and weapons that he uses throughout the game It made me realize that Scarface was the best predator in the universe.

I wouldn't call this game sexist or racist considering everyone and thing are exaggerated stereotypes. it's not discriminating, it makes fun of everyone! I still remember seeing this game on the shelf 15 years ago thinking “wow this looks super cool!” and when I played it, I loved it!! If they ever make a new updated version of the game with an open world map like Spider Man, I’m all over it!

I'm genuinely unsure you know what actual sexism is, this game literally puts the women in the story a position of power. They're pornstars as a way to portray how they're not actually in a position of weakness or exploitation but rather they are the exploiters. This is one of the most basic troupes in writing to have a character seem one way but they're actually the opposite.

Scarface was seriously wounded before the explosion, so, the explosion was just a finishing blow. Scarface don't fight the gangs because he's a justice hero (lol, do you even read the dialogues?)

Personally love the game, it’s edgy, campy, but fun nontheless. It’s like playing a B-tier Predator film with a bunch of tropes in the early 80s/90s. Kinda wish we got more from the Ronins though. Wished we could have saved them. Fighting alongside side them was cool.

I played this game when I was a kid(and Jaws too), and I didn't had this amount of difficulty, the only hard level was the xenomorph one and that's it, everything else was pretty easy, didn't had troubles with the controls or camera. And about the plot, it's pretty cool because of how ridicule it is, it's meant to be the macho thing, even Scarface is with his dark humor("I didn't even get to cum) is a representation of this.

Ehhh, after all these years, still own it, still like it, still recommend it to people. Though your not wrong... honestly I'd kinda like to see this game remade.

Dude I found your channel last night and idk how but I knew you played Stubs The Zombie. That was like the best game I played on my Xbox, as well as Predator in The Concrete jungle

Honestly it's hard to hate this game, the overly sexualised or downright racial stereotype characters are just unintentionally hilarious. Like come on, ex-pornstar hooker using advanced cybersuits so they can still look sexy while being armoured? That's like something out of an Adult Swim show.

eh, i still don't find it to be that bad a game. Not everyone is gonna like it but i enjoy it, also the controls being bad is news to me; i picked up on it pretty quickly when i first got the game that one faithful Christmas morning at the age of 6. I guess the old expression "another man's trash is another man's treasure" holds up even now.

exactly what where you expecting in terms of story here, in the movies the predictor is not the protagonist, the fact they don't talk mostly using audio recordings to lure people into traps makes it hard to centre the story entirely around the predictor, the redemption story of scar is to kill the borgia's the only thing giving that premise any nuance is the human element and it get bat shit insane at times, is it great. . . no but it's not awful and if all there where to the story was scar looking at the targets and clicking his jowls it would be pretty boring

This video has aged like milk as virtually everyone I know who has played this game thinks it still holds up well! For a PS2 movie title especially; and if Vivendi were still in business I'm sure they'd try and remaster it
