Zy0x is correct that it is marketing. That is the reason it is always implied and never confirmed. That allows for people to ship and also doesn't piss off the sad sack neck beards worried about being ntr'd by fictional characters. It isn't even just the implied gay relationships. They do the same thing with the Traveler and half the characters in the game. They drop ship bait constantly and some characters with multiple other characters (JeanxLisa, JeanxDiluc as an example). But again only ever implied. Hoyo knows how to sell their product.
Yeah, they also do it subtly enough to not piss off bigots and a certain restrictive government cough cough. The ambiguity means if you don't want there to be certain stuff, you can pretend there isn't, and if you do, you can feel good that there is things pointing towards it
i do agree with the marketing bit as well but i also hate it when people attack others if they don’t view it as gay. like i’m cool with raiden and yae as a ship but the amount of times i’ve been attacked simply bc i didn’t think they were lesbians and only felt like mihoyo was mostly baiting was sad and drove me away from genshin for a bit. there’s also a ship wars which makes me cringe bc i thought we left that back in the early tumblr days but here we are in 2023 where chronically online teenagers feel the need to defend a fictional ship.

I honestly don't see it. Alhaitham and Kaveh, absolutely, I'd be surprised if they weren't a canon thing, but for most other ships (that doesn't involve the Traveler) I don't see even a hint of romance. It might just be that you see what you want to see, and as someone who values friendships over romance, friendships are all I see. There are some things you can choose to read into but I never see it between the PCs, only between the Traveler and PC. Except for some sidequest npcs, and Alhaitham and Kaveh, of course, that was so shockingly blatant I just wondered why they don't do it with every character that isn't straight.
