Newer heat pumps are like furnaces in that it's good to look at the board for any codes before disconnecting the power. I always have a hard time remembering to do that!
I've gotten x13 condenser motors going by turning the power off. And it didn't have a circuit board on it. X13 condenser fan didn't work, I turned the power off for a couple minutes turned it on and it never failed again. And like I said it did not have any circuit board on it. Good yob. I think the module needed cleared. And the one I mentioned was a straight cool.
My brother is a retired AC technician and our unit has a weird problem that he and I are having a hard time figuring out. This is what is does. It is a Amana two stage unit with a ECM condenser fan motor. The compressor now runs without any calling for anything from the thermostat and the condenser ECM fan does not turn. The compressor seems like it is getting half its voltage. We thought it was the board. We replaced the board only to have it doing the same thing. Could it be the ECM motor shortage and back feeding into the compressor to make it run with no call for anything or could it be the defrost sensor has gone bad? There is no contractor on this unit and it is a reverse cycle unit. I love your videos and thank you for keeping it clean and real! I wanted to see what you think it might be. It’s a tough one!
It's strange seeing the ECM control electronics separated from the motor as they did. Should it happen again, I'd check that board immediately upon walking up for power and any error codes. Maybe it would shed some light on the mystery? It's going to drop below zero degrees (F) here tonight. Amazing how there are places in the US that are still quite warm!
I freaked out when you said it was 78 degrees today. It was 18 this morning here in Dallas. I guess Texas isnt the only place with strange weather. Stay safe brother. Great video like always
wimpy! wimpy! wimpy! yeah I know Texas isn't used to that cold of weather, but y'all better get used to it 😉. meanwhile I'm tired of the snow and cold also, having shoveled, pushed and blown many tons of it. also I just love 40F one day and next night 0F, just enough to melt some of the snow and make a massive iceberg. then go shoveling 6 foot deep snow drifts off roof tops, while on aluminum extension ladder that started in in 3foot deep snow, by time your done, you have snow to your neck. this is northeastern Ohio, not Siberia or the North/South pole for Christ sakes....
A lot of the time I ask the customer to cycle the power on the rheem heat pumps before I come out. These boards seem to show a low pressure lock out when there is not a true low pressure issue. If it happens a couple times I normally replace the board and that takes care of it.
Sounded like it could be an older woman. Less brown fat as you age and with a normal skin temp in calm air of 85, lower ambient air feels cold. Likely not so active as 81 would feel quite warm to an active person. Heat pumps blow "cold" air as the skin feels it at around 90. We've removed a lot of radiant sources, such as incandescent bulbs, old TVs, etc. that used to provide that base radiant heat that balanced with the "radiant" cold you feel from the winter windows and such. The old school way was to close the curtains, especially at night, and the house felt warmer even as the measured temperature never changed. I'm testing my idea right now. My 93 yr old aunt was constantly having them adjust the thermostat in her assisted living room. I put a floor lamp with a 100 watt incandescent bulb in a corner that she controls with a remote. More light but just that bit of radiant heat has seen her complain less about the temperature. Sure she could sit alone in her room bundled in blankets, but then those would be tripping hazards when she got out of her chair.
I lean towards the board... I would have prob changed it but your right, that would have been a fire from the hip kind of diagnosis. You are a very good technician sir
Wasted some time at the beginning messing with the motor. Same thing for me yesterday. Pulled up to a mini split that the customer said needed to be recharged (once every year) and so I locked in on that issue, pulled all the tools out only to find it was running 135/400 😂
The problem I am having with my Rheem, the fan wants to turn, jerky movements. I opened the motor, no obvious damage or burn smell, I get 15 ohms on the motor on all three. I am getting 24v signal and 240v. Any suggestions?
Our condenser fan only runs sometimes. I went outside and checked the breaker and it was good. I turned everything off including the breaker inside and also turned off the breaker outside. I turned everything back on and the fan ran. I checked it throughout the day and it was turning on. This morning it stopped turning on again. Could that be a bad capacitor?
Boiler fix yesterday, today anti-freeze it, runs good, more work tomorrow, another job sat or sun shower valve job...I don't spend a penny on advertising
possible the txv is fucked on thay unit. it has one txv serving both heating and cooling. weirdness. but that could of caused. alow pressure lockout. always keep the power on and look for faults first. even when we get ahead of ourselves lol
@@HVACGUY sorry, when you walked up to it, I could not hear any sound of it running. When I turned the volume up, it might have stopped just as you walked up to it. All I could hear was the blower running
