uhoh, BZZZZZZZTTT, the death buzz. if the building dwellers notice the lack of cooling and shut it off right away.? it just may survive, if they don't and it repeats for minutes/hours/days/weeks/months? good chance that it is 100% dead or will fail shortly after repair. I was sitting here one day and thought what's that weird screaming noise, I heard the echoed off noise for hours that day and didn't recognize it. as I was leaving in the evening, I heard it again and instantly knew what it was, neighbors condenser had an old composite pad sitting on top of it, blocking the air flow, the noise was screaming compressor bypass. it didn't sound that way next door/through windows and fans running, but once exited into driveway to get in vehicle? my ears went started bleeding I hard and spotted the now very clear noise, ran over and uncovered the condenser. that was 3+ years ago.

Nice diag. Seems to be that HP on condenser fans tend to follow a trend when it comes to capacitors. 1/4 HP=5 mfd, 1/3 HP=7.5 mfd, 1/2 HP=7.5 and 3/4 & 1 HP are usually 10 mfd. That CAP did read 10 for the brown wire so likely all was correct with that CAP rating for the condenser..

Idea: are the compressor connectors all the same, or maybe a couple different ones? They all seem to look the same on your videos and if so... why dont you make yourself a plug from an old harness from one and have it be like 3 feet long or something with regular spade terminals on the other end of the wires and you can use it to easily reach down and unplug the harness, plug your test pigtail into the conpressor and quickly and comfortably do your checks?

@chuckquinn8026
@chuckquinn8026 Год назад
I asked the same question a while back 🤷‍♂️
@fldave612
@fldave612 Год назад
It's logical to think that ohming out compressors that way with a pigtail harness, but that extra 3+ feet of wire can give a slightly higher resistance reading than what is actually in the windings themselves, by going directly to the pins you're ohming out the windings directly at there actual lenght on the stators w/o adding addtional to it. Take note when watching most HVAC techs you almost never see them ohm out compressor windings using the harness wiring in the unit, even if it's fully disconnected from the cap and contactors. If a winding is supposed to be 1.2 ohms for example per the mfg, but the actual readout at the pins is 0.7 ohms, you add a short length of pigtail and not realizing it, that pigtail has say 0.3 ohms, you're goign to be like, no problem, it's within tolerance, but in reality it's below the minimum threshold.
@natersalad889
@natersalad889 Год назад
@fldave612 true, to eliminate that you can check the value of the harness each time prior to using it just like checking your leads on your meter before testing resistance by putting the ends of the leads together and making sure is 0.00 ohms, just make sure the harness is the same each time as one process

Wait a second, you never once checked if the system had any refrigerant in the system! That is exactly what a compressor sounds like with no refrigerant. If you didn't gauge up, how could you possibly know? Did you quote them a new condenser, compressor or full change-out? The capacitor was good, the readings across the compressor terminals were nearly dead on. Are you sure there isn't a leak that vented all the refrigerant or a majority of it out? I have seen this more than once in my career.
@totallynotbreezytheboss7218
Did you get your training from RU-vid? 😂😂😂 Clearly that's a doa compressor
@Balticblue93
@Balticblue93 Год назад
@@totallynotbreezytheboss7218 That's funny all things considered. DOA is dead on arrival, I suppose it might have been. At the end of the day, a empty compressor sounds like marbles bouncing around.
