Cold solder joint…just weird that it lasted so long if it’s original…if you look at the back of the board and wiggle the input pins there will be at least one moving within the solder

Bad solder joint on the back of that circuit board to that connector pin.

I'll bet that the problem with the defrost board was simply just one visually obvious cold solder joint on the connector, that could have been easily fixed in about a minute with a soldering iron and some solder, you wouldn't have even had to fully disconnect the board.

I think it's better to not disconnect to solder- it might recrack when you replug the wires.

My Goodman lasted 25 years. Finally replaced for good measure and R-410.

My mom's intermittent Goodman gas pack had flame sensor, gas valve, then 2 boards installed then the tech gave up. I resoldered 9 cracked joints behind the plug to all the safeties. The amount of factory solder was very minimal, I think they all cracked when the plug was smashed on.

19:31 - Second pin from the top on the cable pin header has a cold solder joint.

Curtis, I love your work and you’re a great and honest contractor. BUT if I opened a new part and saw what you saw I would not have installed it, but rather called them and reported it. They could say You caused it to fail how do we know you didn’t damage it? You got lucky my worthy friend.

My brother had this same unit up til 2 yrs ago in the house he purchased 😂 Nobody thought it was real/operational. They thought it was just yard debris that he hadn't hauled off yet

It looks to me like the ground pin in the board had a broken or cold solder joint which allowed the pin to break contact when the plug was moved. Possibly could have been soldered to repair.

I would have soldered to test and check charge but I think it is illegal to repair boards

Been a while since I've seen one of those. They must have been pretty good systems. Circuit boards, sometimes they can be easy, it's the newer models that concern me. Good job

Yes sir, up here in Jersey the Carrier/Bryant/ Payne distributor will not accept any electronic parts returned for ANY reason. I agree on that policy.

You might have taken a pic of the board and serial/model and texted them to make sure it's what you wanted. Arcing seems to indicate bad ground on the board.
