You definitely need to speak up at Redwing you should be getting royalty fee from them for promoting there boots and products. At least they should be sending you some new releases.
I Just bought 4 because of CJ. No one every displayed them like he did. Good Job CJ. Red Wing Needs to offer you partnership, Then make sure you save me an Executive Spot ;o)
I like how oil based conditioners bring out the bruising on the leather that’s caused by wear, it gives a nice patina. I use a jojoba and beeswax conditioner from a local saddlery; it’s half the price of main dealerships products.
I also agree with the people who say leave it alone. 😂 The Rough and touch colors look better dry in my opinion. I like a slight sheen if any .On the solid colors I like some shine like the black Harness leather.
Nice Job, Before and After. At First I was scared, looked at how shiny they wore, they looked kinda brown at first, then turn shiny black after you applied treatment, then it went back to looking original and brand new again. Thanks for sharing.
I actually like them better with the Leather Conditioner. Dam right there lifestyle boots I wear Redwing 10875’s for about 6 months in the local 33 in Boston, but when the weather get bad you need a good waterproof boot. 👍🏼
I like the look. I use a small brush for the nooks and crannies where your fingers can’t really get into very well. LOVE the after color. It’s ALL about the journey and the story your boots tell. Accept it, Love it, live it....... It’s all good. And besides, when you do this, they’re yours. Nobody on Earth has a pair exactly like yours. Now TAHT’S custom.
I actually use a blow dryer for a few seconds on my boots when I condition. It brings excess oil to the surface. And you can see the oil "ripple" on the surface. So when you do this by the welt, you can see the excess get in to where the leather meets the welt. I feel this insures getting the conditioner into that tight space by the welt. I then I rub in the excess around the rest of the boot by hand (love feeling the heat as I rub the oil in), let sit for a few minutes and wipe and buff.
Those soles really transformed those boots! I use Bickmore Bick 4 when I don’t want a drastic color change/darkening. It’s a very minimal change and really hydrates the leather.
These boots look amazing after the conditioning. Also well explained about the heritiage boot being a lifestyle and not a WORKING boot. Finally someone explained it, besides why would you want to work in a 300 dollar pair of boots just to trash them
That's right I forgot about those, I know allot of cable installers wear those, they have to wear boots that have the logger heel to climb poles, they say they have lasted for years but I quit that job before I could get pair. The 875 is consider a work, but not sure how they hold up on the job site, I'm sure you will have to change the sole allot? But in Cj latest video mentioned the 875 is a classic it's a must have for red wing lovers, I have the rangers and 1097 so I think my next pair will be the 875, they really are a classic like the iron rangers. I was leaning towards the Rovers but the 875 will be nice to have
Robert Richey yes i have a few iron rangers myself great boots, not a work boot to today standards since most work boots require steel toe or composite toe protection but I was just pointing out that quality work boots can be more expensive than $300, is just that not everyone is willing to cash out that kind of money unless they want something that is gonna last a while. People rather buy $100 boots every year, i see it a lot in my industry
Gotcha I see what you saying, that's a good point, since the logger is built as a work boot I think it's definitely worth buying especially if your in that kind of industry. Having a good pair of work boots definitely helps on the job site, I worked in cheap and also more expensive boots and its a big difference. But using a boot that is more for fashion and style I wouldn't want to wear trash them. I've been tempted to work in my rangers, which I have already and now got some pretty deep cuts, I'm trying to kept those things clean. But I wanted to work in them to give them some character and break them in. There looking good so far👍
CJ Cook you do excellent reviews, I own a couple pair of iron rangers and a couple of other redwing styles but I crack up laughing at some of your videos, they’re excellent and not boring like other reviewers .. I look forward to future videos .. keep up the good work! 👍
Loved this video as usual. I have these boots (about a month now). My first pair of RW. I just conditioned with the leather cream. No change of color if anyone is interested. Where is a good place to get new laces? Great work.
If they were originally Charcoal, then the were starting to look light brown/light grey. That's a sign not of aging, but of dryness. You may like the color, but the boot doesn't like the feel. Treat the boot, quench its thirst and don't worry, they will lighten up back to their natural color. Just don't let the poor thing die of thirst and crack on you.
Hey CJ, I've purchased a couple pair of Iron rangers and have returned all of them because the metal on the inside of the speed hooks has been cutting through the leather on the tongue. I was thinking about sending them in to replace the speed hooks with normal eyelets but it looks like the metal on the back is the same design for the eyelets and speed hooks. I don't really know how to describe it but it's like the metal prongs on the inside of speed hooks are not completely flat and this causes them to scrape the leather tongue. It appears some iron rangers have this problem and some don't. I saw a post the other day where someone has 6 holes on each boot where the speed hook eyelets have worn through the tongue all the way. Do you have any advice or suggestions? It would be really appreciated. Thanks man
Oh wow, what sole is on the Iron Ranger? That’s looks awesome! I don’t have as many Iron Rangers as you CJ, just 2 pairs currently, and both only 6 months old so far away from a re-sole, but damn, think I want that sole when it’s time!
Most people use way too much and too often conditioner for their Red Wings. The leather RW uses is very durable and needs maybe 2 times a year a little oil with normal daily use.
Hi CJ! New to your page and love your style a lot man... I’ve had these boots before, looked great but was just hard on my feet. These soles make a difference? How do I go about getting them hooked up like yours?
Hi CJ! Love your videos 🥰 what was the brand of laces that you have on these boots?? I love that they have the brass cover on the tips. Are they durable laces?? Thanks for such great content 👍🏻
꧁ Orlando Cruz ꧂ The charcoal R&T does look like it has brown hues but It fits perfectly btwn the black harness and brown harness. Other than oxblood, the Charcoal is one of the most versatile colors imho.
Hi CJ, I'm planning to buy a pair of 8086, but comparing to the charcoal color , I prefer the solid black color after conditioning...so I would like to ask that, if I want it looks darker, should I apply the oil more frequently or should I apply more oil on it? Like how to keep the black color stays longer? thank you in advance.
You could do two things: Apply Mink Oil every 3 months or and I have seen this with my own eyes close up. You could apply black shoe polish to the leather.
Did comment on another video of yours yesterday, about the Oxblood. I’m kinda torn between 8086-8084 and the oxblood. I know the oxblood have been discontinued. Do you have a comparison video between the 8084 and 8086?
Hi CJ, I had a question? I have a pair of these 8086 Size 9 D width charcoal rough and tough iron Rangers just like these in this video in pretty good condition and hardly worn. I need to sell em and having some bad luck on OfferUp, Facebook and Nextdoor. I wanted to know if you had any suggestions as to where else I could try to sell?
Great info on all 3 of those leathers. You answered a lot of questions I had. including who the laces were from. and for sure RW should wet your beak from all of the good positive things you have to say about them.
@@CJCook Is that something that anyone can request? I have about 7 pair of the Iron Rangers. Absolutely love the look of that sole. "Rocia", is that correct? Great video by the way. Thank you very much for your time.
It’s crazy how many negative comments you see on redwings site complaining about the boots not meeting their expectations on the job. It shouldn’t take you long to figure out red wings heritage line is not for labor. What’s your thoughts on nitrile cork vs the vibrams? I’ve only owned the vibrams and I’m pleased. Also did you ever consider a resole from Brian the boot maker? I know he’s pricey.
I prefer Nitrile Cork because it is tougher and lasts longer. The Vibram mini-lug is more comfortable with the heel impact/contact with the ground. I would not have BTBM resole a boot of mine BUT I would purchase one of his boots.
CJ Cook those Role Club underdogs in the black horsehide are amazing. It’s like the archetypal boot image that appears in my mind when I think of boots.
I purposely held off on watching this until bedtime, and you did not disappoint. These cleaning/leather nurturing vids are definitely my chill in the evening. By the way do I spy a 36mm Explorer 👀 on your wrist?!
CJ can you recommend some good leather laces I have seen on instagram a pair of black blacksmiths with tan leather laces (same colour as the sole ) and they look fire 🔥 any good leather laces brands you know of?
@cj cook hey I'm in a bit of a quandary and want to ask your opinion. If you could only buy one pair of Redwings this year (I know this sounds like crazy talk) and I've narrowed it down to Blacksmith in Charcoal RT, Black Prairie or Iron Ranger in Hawthorne which would you recommend as most practical and likelihood that it will not be available in the future? Thanks man, I enjoy your videos. Best, Luis
it seems no matter what color the boots start out, they all seem to turn the same muddy brown, when conditioned. i just bought copper iron rangers. not putting any of that crapp on my boots
No offense man but your conditioning techuiqes are really ruining some boots. Get some horse oil man. Come to the dark side. These didn't need conditioning. You're be surprised how many years a boot can go without getting dry if they don't ever get wet or muddy or dirty or dusty. I have rangers from 2013 and still not ready.
@@CJCook siewa horse oil off eBay. I keep it refrigerated in order to apply thin layers. A little goes a long way. I don't live in the city so my boots probably don't get as nasty as yours but I'm going on two years with some pairs and I hadn't conditioned. I hit up my 8112s because they were ten years old but it really didn't make a difference. I wish we took care of our boots like women instead of men. They look better and develop better patina with very little conditioning and longer in between periods. Conditioning is also addictive. I watch your videos because it helps take the edge off of wanting to condition. I have two beater pairs of 8111s that I condition quite a bit. I use Smith's leather balm. It also darkens like pecards that you just used. But horse oil is like the boot comes right out of the factory. Doesn't change color, texture, or look. Didn't water proof or protect. It just replaces lost oil. Which is all I want for my collection. Don't worry I have two pairs of charcoals as well. One natural grey and one darkened on purpose because I also like the variation. But nothing beats having a pair of light colored charcoal rough and tough. They seem dry but really aren't.
