Condor Plate Carrier: amzn.to/25igiou See my work plate carrier setup and heed some plate carrier advice, Ballistic plates, Tactical Tailor & High Speed Gear pouches.
Great video, learned a lot. Also you responding in the comments to questions I hadn't thought of and giving answers I wouldn't have come up with was a tremendous help! Thanks, brother!
I like that you're keeping it real. ive used this vest for work. did mainly vehicle and house clearing in it. it is rugged and robust as are the ar500 plates and with that comes the con side of the pro. its heavy and a little thick but box stitched. I never felt insecure about the carrier at all. as you mentioned its easy to get thick fast in this rig especially when running soft armor underneath. I removed the cumberbun all together and that seems to help me run a little slicker. this leaves you with little to no side molle option.. I put the medical kit on a drop leg and switched to safari land flex cuffs in the kangaroo behind the mags. sometimes ill run a double m4 pouch upside down on my lower back that can hold flex cuffs as well. doing this has slimmed things down a little bit which I found was important. all in all I found this carrier to work great. as a third line option it is not ideal. I find it works better as a primary. the front part of the carrier can hold a level 3a butterfly along with a plate. the back on my carrier (operator ii) is setup for just a hard plate. this puts it somewhere in between a 3rd and second line carrier. something slimmer that supports 3a fully would be more ideal. as a throw on front and back armor its very useful. you did an excellent review. I look forward to seeing other reviews on gear I don't have and knowing you're giving it to me straight.
I agree with the idea that you wear the vest for going into it instead of bug out. Realistically it would get taken from you like you said. Good video brotien shake, really enjoyed it.
Nice video, simple and functional, great point on ditching the kangaroo pouch. I had to do the same. Additionally I carry a 5.11 TPT 230 Lumen F/L upper left breast side. Note; You got my rig beat by 8 pounds. Stay safe!
Just ran across you today on this video, I will date myself here, but I love this plate carrier, when I started out in LE we had those god awful Point Blanks that were mandatory issue/wear and made you sweat like hell even if it was only 60 degrees outside. This thing loaded out and with plates is about 1,000 times more comfortable and that makes it easier to do the work you have to do if this level of protection is required. Nice review.
Hey, thanks for the video. Can 3A soft armor side plates now be added to my Condor Sentry rigs? That way I can upgrade without breaking the bank. Thanks!
Hey Jay. Thanks for the video, practical and good info. I want a plate carrier. But I also don’t want to be a douche. You cleared up a lot of that! I know this is an older video, so are you still using this model? Have you gotten something else? I’m not even sure what model this particular one is, the link is gone. Appreciate it man.
Condors aren’t bad. If you’re using one as a bump kit or just a kit to keep in the house it’s perfect. The only difference is comfort and quality. I used my condor for a hood few months and it started to wear in some ways and wasn’t holding up. Just got a kdh magnum and the difference is insane. I put the side plates in. And added more gear so it’s heavier but it’s still more comfortable. I can wear it all day and feel great.
Do you wear a battle belt or a duty belt with gear on it and if so how's the compatibility with the Condor chest rig as I'm wearing mine now I'm noticing it could interfere with some items on my battle belt
va6 mag insert for the mopc would let you slim it up even more at the loss of the admin pouch space, also should add this is a bigger persons plate carrier im 5' 9" ish and around 90 kg and i had to tighten up the mopc to the max and then some to fit me snug if you're more medium framed like me you may want to go with the condor exo gen2 or the condor shooters pc just food for thought
I dunno, the way I see it, if I'm wearing a plate carrier in a dangerous situation where I think there's a high chance that I'll get into a firefight, I'm going to have a bare minimum of 6 magazines. But I'd also be wearing a belt to disperse my gear so that it's not getting in the way and hindering me. My current set up is 3 mags on the plate carrier, 2 on the belt, one on the stock of my rifle. With a pistol and 1 additional pistol mag on the belt along with essential things like a med kit, at least 1 tourniquet, a flash light, and a folding dump pouch. Anything else can be carried in a pack or in pockets. A hydration pouch isn't a bad idea for a plate carrier either.
Have you fired with it? Both side arm and rifle? I am curious on how the firing platform feels with it. You might have answered this in previous messages but i am lazy and havn't read through the messages.
Hey thanks for the video, I will be starting police academy in August but I have always been into being prepared for "stuff ". I was just wondering what size your vest is? I know that they are adjustable to a point but I don't know if I should get an XL or L. I'm about 5'9" and 195lbs. what do you think?
+Rexdemer I did some research and found out that it is fully adjustable. Go to catiarmor.com and use coupon code PREPPER RECON and you will get 10% off and they have free shipping right now.
I'm under the impression this model only comes in 1 size (follow like in description) I'm 6'1'' and 195 and I was able to adjust it to fit me with no issues.
Thats pretty slim, you may have some issues and may want to look at vests specifically designed for smaller framed people. This would fit but would take a serious amount of modification to do so.
I may be wrong (wouldn't be the first time) but isn't your flag patch displayed backwards? For the location you have it displayed isn't the Union portion (stars) supposed to be to your right? publications.usa.gov/epublications/ourflag/flaglaws2.htm
+David Webb it's a reverse flag that can be worn on the Army Combat Uniform sleeve, that's why it looks backwards. I just keep it because it's from my first deployment.
Jay Flat Out stars forward right? not nitpicking, but you look like a righty and if you were using your rifle you'd likely be bladed with your right foot forward lol
The cummerbund should be adjustable, if not you could grab another one to replace it. Or just do some custom work to it. Oh, and Thurmans rule the world 😎
I have the same problem with mine, it's adjustable but not enough with me being 5'11 150lbs. So I watch some videos of people making it custom by cutting and sewing. if you cut it make sure you sew it strong.
Your vest and belt should really only be holding things that are essential for fighting for the most part. 3-4 mags, 1-2 pistol mags, Leatherman MUT, flashlight, Comms, ESEE 4 knife, Trauma kit on back of belt,(where it can be reached with BOTH HANDS), and 2 TQ's. That is about all i keep on my vest/belt..... 150 rounds of 5.56 is plenty if you have real training. You can shoot 20 people 5 times each, and miss 50 times as well.... And that is not even counting your pistol, Look at it that way lol. Anything else can go into your pack, that can be left at camp or hidden ect...
Frankiecoast you don't want more weight on your rig. I keep extra magazines in a Condor assault backpack with my water bladder. If I need to sit in a car more comfortable or need more ammo I can just take my bag off and my back is flush.
What he said. My personal preference is 3 in the front, one on my belt, one in a pack and one in the gun. I try to keep the front as flat as possible. Agree about having at least 6 mags though, just not all on the front.
3 on vest, 1 on belt, 1 in gun. 5 mags, 150 rounds of 5.56..... Shoot 20 people 5 times, and miss 50 times. Plenty not counting your pistol. Anything other than that can be stored at camp, or whatever. If you are going IN to a situation where you know u will have particular trouble, then yea bring a few more mags. But for typical patrolling/security in your AO 5 mags of primary is plenty
The whole point in a firefight is to break contact ASAP and get the fuck out of there anyways, not fight till u run out of ammo. Keep your rig as light as possible and dip out as soon as possible. 95% of people can not even run a single mile in their kit.....
+Nick Gibbs hey there, if you slide the cummerbund out from its sleeve on the back of the carrier you will find a nylon cord laced through some elastic straps. I'm not fat enough to need the elastic so I removed the string from the elastic and threaded it through the actual molle webbing on the back of the cummerbund and slid it back into place. Hope that makes sense if not let me know and I'll try to take some pictures
Preach. Youre fulfilling an objective, not camping. Also, if your task is to put holes in ops, you'll also need the ability to plug holes up too 🚑. Bullets fly both ways 🍺
Ha ya they'll just have to wait to get paid . seeing their 4,5and 7 month's LoL thank for the video I sub. To your CH looking forward to seeing more it's nice with people that keep it real ... WLM
Dude I can't run a mile naked hahaha. I'm not fat by any means 6'1 210 I don't have the stamina and ongoing knee problems from a work accident. I'm working on it though
I hear ya. Slim is better. Can drive a car with my setup. Wanna see those guys with the backpacks and hydration carriers strapped to the back do that with any proficiency.
Just out of curiosity, how would having 6 mags make you look like a "fuckin idiot"? Yes, I have 6 mags on the front of my carrier. The rest of the vest is still slim line. DKX plates front and back, two foldable dump pouches on left side (one for mags, one for water if needed). I have pistol mags already on my duty belt along with everything else a standard duty belt would have. I keep most of my other stuff (IFAK, Tourniquets, 3 AR mags [spares for other officers], and spare equipment) in a backpack that can be ditched easily if need be. I may have just misunderstood how you presented it, and I am not looking for an argument lol. I was just wondering. To the others who will more than likely comment back, I honestly don't care and won't respond to stupid comments or anything that is basically trolling. I get everyone has "their way" of doing things and some see mine as overkill. This question is simply directed at the individual who posted the video. He wont get bent out of shape over it, so don't waste time trying to be "that guy" who feels they have to be billy badass on the comments board.
I do have a few comments for you to consider??? Ive been looking at your IBA and from what I can see you have bought a quality MOPC carrier!!! Ive also looked at your load out,you say that you want to keep it slim for mobility and such?? That's all good, but from what ive been able to see you are a tad bit too slim!!! You only have 3 30rd mags on front,2 or 3 pistol mags on the side??? I see no IFAC,no Terny,no battle knife, and way too little ammo being carried!!! If you were to take that load out into a real time combat situation, you would be in the fight very long!!! My IBA doesn't weight all that much more then your set up and ive got 2 to 3 times the amount of ammo,a fully stocked IFAC,3 to 4 times the pistol mags, combat tac light, and a really good up and personal combat knife!!! take it from a 6 time combat vet,you can put everything that you may need to go into a real time combat situation without putting too much weight on your IBA!!! T.Foy Capt U.S. ARMY Ret.
+Tactical Lunacy some times it's 12 hours if da other guard flakes out alot of guards in this industry quiting cause all da guards getting shot at marajuana Despensories just gotta stay ready plus alot of OT gonna go to some Raider football games this season lol
*the and I hope you are saving some cash for the lawyer fees In case you ever shoot someone. You must of not heard the part in the firearm course were they tell you that you will be charged if you ever shot anyone or the place got raided by DEA.
Mr. Dark no sir it won't. III+ from ar500 will. Standard III type armor is not rated for 5.56. It will pierce it no problem because it is over 3000fps and speed kills armor. If you don't believe me look it up. I thought the same thing. .308 is slower thats why III stops it.
+Silvia Concha I don't agree with that at all, a plate carrier is a plate carrier it's the armor that goes inside it that determines the ballistic value. Also pouches are purchased separately from the carrier
Late to the party here, but condor has stepped their game up significantly. I have a quick release condor player and it's 1000d cordura. Same thing the LBT, TAG, and mayflower
Silvia Concha There are lots of videos and pictures of real military and law enforcement using condor stuff. I own an eagle industries plate carrier and a condor plate carrier and I'm going to be honest, there's not a big difference in quality.
Young guy stuff and even then you better be in shape to pack that weight. Old fat men will die from a heart attack in short order, just saying. Just so you know, I am an old fat guy.
