All these restaurants are dignified and tax paying law abiding places. Some but not all wealthy people hurt humans and society at large. These people are wealthy, in culture, family, and courage to defend their place in the USA and they gift soldiers to defend Liberty worldwide. Most soldiers are southern. Everyone in the world panhandles from the USA then youre saying.
I grew up in Pampa, TX. The "coney" was a real treat. It was kinda like a football game atmosphere. Lots of people, crowded, LOTS of noise, delicious food & family. Miss it...
I've lived in Pampa, Tx. for over 50 years and I've eaten at the Coney Island many times over the years. I hope they stay in business for many more years to come. 😊👍👍
Got news for this TCR talker I'm a native born Texan for over 70 years now and as a teenager we called certain hot dogs Coney's in downtown Houston and other places. Maybe the name originally came out of NYC at some point but Coney has been known in many places for even longer periods of time. Mama told me when she visited the Northern parts of our country and that includes NYC in the early thirties they had never heard what a hamburger was and had never much less eaten one. News spread very slowly back then. She had been eating hamburgers since she was a little girl she told me around 1921 or so. Try that on for size.
Detroiter here...Coney Island is in NYC, but the Coney Island Hotdog (with chili, mustard and onion) was popularized in Detroit. The originator used the name of the place in NYC to make it seem exotic to Detroiters. They would scoff at a Coney Dog, in actual Coney Island NYC.
In Rhode Island, this kind of thing is called a New York System Weiner, which is not found in NY. They are never called dogs and no one would know what a Coney is. . The Vatican City of weiners is Olneyville New York System in Providence. The style was created by Greek immigrants and thet used the NY theme to make it more glamorous.
Most folks don't know that the Coney is part of a bldg.that used to be the opera house..There are still bullet holes in the ceiling from the 1800s when people would get a little rowdy during a play or other entertainment..My kids grew up eating at the coney. My late husband was born and raised in Pampa.
Yes and with new owners they changed the chili recipe. Was a big deal lol now it has another new owner and the chili has supposedly been restored to its original recipe.
Ate here as a kid and a few times here and there. Nothing i would write home about but it’s a charming place. Spent more time at the pool hall next door and the alley way 😅
Love your stories but i really do believe you need the Texas map at the beginning. This really allows all to see where on the map the story is located. Very important please.consider bringing it back. It a Big O STATE
Coneys. Would love to try but I live 10 miles from the Border in Edinburg. Would have to travel to almost way up in Panhandle about 600 miles away is my guess.
I worked in a restaurant like that were they chanting the ticket order , believe me it’s a very very stressful place to be and work. There is not better orden like read it on paper or screen.
Pampa is NE of Amarillo and there really isn't anything there to draw tourists but the Coney Island Cafe lol. It's hot there in the summer and it's cold there in the winter.
@@texaswader I have lived in Pampa 62 years. I eat at Coney Island at least twice a month. It's an institution. LOl Yes, hot in summer and cold in winter and right now super dry and windy. flat plains, grass, oil pumps and wind turbins. Small and friendly and I love it.
@@virginiadewey6751 Hi Virginia! I hope you get some rain and send some down to Utopia so we can get some water moving in the Sabinal River. I remember a place in Pampa that served Chinese food. The Lantern or something like that. I also have eaten at the Furr's Cafeteria there. Been a long time since I was up your way, back in my Halliburton days. Did you ever know Bill Franklin from Pampa? He is a friend of mine and lives down on the coast now. I hope to get back up there and get some more chili dogs and chili burgers some day. You take care!
I guess that counts as Tx also. Gettin purdy fat north for some of us. Great to see a good cafe passed down to people who care. Congratulations on a job well done.
I only buy beef ball park franks bun length. they have to be GRILLED on a fire, not boiled. Then I top them with ice cold vidalia onions and ... sloppy joes..and cheddar cheese.
I've heard some NY people say they call em Coneys... not to mention somebody mentioned this video was made about 20 years ago... was made before youtube existed...
Please anything but hot dog, read the label folks, this is some of the worst crap ever, 40 years ago when we were ignorant to the facks of prepared foods , now we know better at least i do!!!!!
