New sub, here! I saw your review of You Won’t be Alone, and needed more! I love what you have to say about movies and it’s really fun seeing you guys interacting with each other. Thank you! ❤
I randomly saw that Ari Aster short film. It is extremely disturbing, but highly recommend! I've had a really sad week, you guys are making me feel better.
Adding to the drinking game: -eye roll -Joseph mentions/complains about Having to pull too many stills when nic lists previous films by the director of the film -Nick is interrupted by Joseph -Nick goes on a tangent about cinematic history that goes above all of our heads -We find out whether an actor/character is good looking or not -“Crunchy” -Joseph calls out bad hair and or makeup -Nick and Joseph give diff ratings -“Culminates” -Nick and Joseph use a “big” word -Nick and Joseph do not like the movie but approve of the score -Shade is thrown -Nick announces that the film is a directoral debut and Joseph asks - what other films has this director done? -Either Joseph/ Nick / both wear a print of a face on their
The understanding of why it 'fails' (on so many levels), is put across in a convincing way here! Especially, liked the critical take on "for the nostalgic appeal - which is never a good idea to do something." :D
Kevin Smith was developing a Fletch film with I think Ben Affleck as Fletch for a very long time. Not sure where that fell apart. The first film was only OK…couple laughs…silly plot. The second one was not very good. I actually can’t recall what even happened in the second. This new one as presented just comes off as…meh at best. Though it seems to have a solid cast. Terrific review.
the thing about this character being rebooted for nostalgia is the only person with nostalgia for the character is jon hamm who just really wanted to do a different take on this character. sure he’s dry and snarky but that’s how he’s doing it. it’s of course fair if that’s just not what you like though. i thought it was really funny. seeing him bounce off of a bunch of different people and patronize them to their face was just fun in a pretty simple way. reminded me of the nice guys but with more blatantly tricking people and managed to integrate it into the modern era more seamlessly than most films. the last one i can remember really doing that well, aside from knives out i guess where the technology isn’t really brought to attention, is kiss kiss bang bang. to me this is just a colossal win because it’s just another movie up with those, the big lebowski, and under the silver lake to really nail that tone in the detective genre.
I don't know why they used "Fletch" in the title, other than to cash in on the original movies. After an hour into the movie I realised that I had no clue what was going on. Confess, Fletch has nothing on the original two movies, and Jon Hamm cannot carry the role like Chevy Chase did.
@comedyfish I think the take is spot on. The Fletch franchise was obviously used to bring people into the theater. The plot is fractured, confusing, and most importantly, stupid. Hamm can only do so much with the wildly mediocre script. Lackluster scene after lackluster scene. And I do agree, Hamm is bone dry. The character Fletch is a trickster, a con-man, but sort of on the good side; something a little more than constantly non-plussed and bored reactions to everything is required here. Mumolo and Maclachlan stole every scene they were in. Hamm somehow hollowed out his role and it reads as mostly dull, bitter sarcasm. I think with another director and a better script Hamm could have had a chance following Chase, but that didn't happen. Chase's characterization is Shakespearean by comparison. This is a classic example of exploiting a great property from another age and blowing it.
Why the hell would they cast Jon Hamm…. He’s amazing but wtf doesn’t Fletch need to be more charismatic and amusing like a Chevy Chase???? Nobody is even reviewing this movie that’s how bad it is and also nobody is seeing it 😂 oof what an embarrassing misfire. Let’s all pretend this didn’t happen and continue to look forward to other Jon Hamm performances
Please enjoy Intriguism Moving Pictures’ “Curse of the Swine-Beast” -- a comedy satire of Ed Wood, William Castle and Roger Corman films and review. Thanks.
Love the Fletch books. Hate this movie. Hamm sucks. Confess Fletch is a great book, the movie leaves out Inspector Flynn! Terrible movie. 😢horrible portrayal of Fletch.
