I like that you as a younger person are talking about minimalism. I typically follow the minimal mom. while her story and journey is empowering her videos can sometimes lack relatability. I like your take on this issue and would love to see more content about it!
The world needs more people like you. I’m not the most social person in the world, but it would make it easier to be social if there were more people like you 🙂
Look into capsule wardrobe. Start with those 15 items and from there add whatever you like and need. I started with that, but 15 items only isn't for me so I added another 15 or so. I now buy clothes only twice a year, I look what I need (ex. A t-shirt is ruined so I need to buy a new basic t-shirt etc.), I gather a list and I hit the store. I buy a fancy dress or shirt along the way but this is it for the entire season (spring/summer or fall/winter). I am 27 and my style solidified a year ago. Don't stress about it! We buy clothes typically to feel excited and inspired. I changed the habit of buying unnecessary clothes, by bying other exciting but important things like books, art supplies, plants etc.
i stopped buying clothes with logos all over/plastered on the front and i've never looked back, honestly it makes you look so much more grown up and less... cheap
I recommend putting clothing you don't feel you wear often in a box and see after 2 months if there is anything you want to definitely take out, then wait another month (or however long you want) and donate it. This process loosens the emotional attachment in my experience.
I thought I was attached to 3 bags of old clothes that were sitting in a cupboard in my house. When I was moving house I was going to bring the bags but then realised I hadn't gone into the bags for a whole year so I wasn't going to wear any of it - I just didn't want part with them. But I gave them to charity and now can barely remember what was in the bags and feel way better for it
oh god i love your talking style!!! i am an english learner and your videos help me at improving my listening skills so damn much. love u and thank you for making this incredible videos
One of the best tips ive got for weeding out my closet was this method. -Hang all my clothes on a hanger (if possible) -Hang them up backwards (with the open end of the hook facing you. -after you wear something, hang them back up but this time with the open end of the hook facing away from you. -set a time (ex: one year) -keep doing this for set amount of time (ex: one year) -after the year is up, any hangers that are still hung up backwards (open end of the hook facing you) means you havent worn it at all for an entire year. So i collect all the clothes i havent worn in a year and i donate them. This helped me actually first hand experience what I dont ever wear and it makes it mentally easier to get rid of them when the time comes. I do this every year now and its helped me keep a constant track of what gets worn and what doesnt.
I want to become a minimalist bc as a college student i hate spending so much time shuffling things between campus and home, it’s exhausting but I find the hardest area is the kitchen bc there’s so many necessary items there. It’s definitely a process and I have learned that I am definitely not attached to little trinkets and stuff.
Moving into a camper made me realize how much useless things i have but also so many things I use too. Its hard to cut back truly but if I don't wanna go insane by cluttering up my camper- i have to cut back
The way I go about my closet clean puts is: instead of choosing what I’m gering rid of, I choose my favourites that I absolutely want to keep. For expample, let’s say I have 25 t-shirts, I picture my dream closet, how many t-shirts are in there? Realistically, I don’t wear a lot of t-shirts, usually tops and/or long sleeve shirts. So 5-7 t’s is more than enough. So I pick my favourites, and even if I end up with 10, that means I can donate 15. For me this maken the proces a lot easier
Throwing things away is wonderful! Good kitchen tools are invaluable. Tools of any kind are invaluable. Organization is a wonderful tool as well! You got this, it takes time to get good at adulting (some never do). Your open minded though just soak up info and tips as you go along in life. You will determine which work for you and which don't!
This video was great Halle!!! I never really gave much thought to my thrifting inspiration, but I think having a certain decade in mind is helpful. The 90s, 80s, 70s, and 2000s are probably my favorites. Looking at this video will help me figure out my color palette. Keep up the good work Halle, you're amazing.
I, too, am into minimalism and the clothes are by far the hardest part for me as well. I think mainly because I don’t like washing clothes (which is backwards, because instead of buying more to avoid washing.. if I just build my capsule wardrobe and develop a uniform .. I will have much less to wash overall) *sigh* I’m working on it 🫡
Halle I want you to know I’m going to start my sourdough starter and make sourdough bread for the first time bc of you. Thank you, and I am a minimalist. Less is more. You will get better with giving your clothes away.
agree on the farmers market. in LA people at the farmers Market , including myself, 😎 look very clean and look sick . I feel like the midwest demographic is more basic and older people so I bet you stand out w exciting fits
Oh ok, it makes sense. Only it didn't work for me. I still remember when some fifteen years ago I made a bold move getting rid of a lot of my belongings. Not junk, mind you, just a whole bunch of things in great condition. It still stings, and I can recall many items. Since then I accumulated a lot more again. I can't exactly say I'm happy with the way things are, as it's a constant struggle trying to organize my things. But that belongs to another discussion, perhaps of filling a void? And that is in the category of psychology. But I like to watch all your videos.
honestly, minimalism is different for everyone. you can have piles of clothes but be minimal in every other aspect in your life. that is still considered minimalism :) i don’t see why you should rid of all of your clothes when it seems to make you very happy!
Thanks for this Halle. I actually planned on reorganizing my closet tmrw and donating some stuff but had no where to start. I’ll definitely use your tips!
Hey Halle. I recently started following you and you inspire me on lot of things:) I really like the kind of jeans most of the times you wear. I've been thinking of getting a pair like them, but I just don't know what they are called. Could you tell me if you do? I really feel like they are going to be my closet staples:D or anyone. Please. I especially like the ones at 1:10 and 10:16 Regular, straight, mom? It looks like all of them and none of them at the same time😭
When things comunicate they look like a unit, they can't look bad, it is hard to view in one try. That's closet to me. Closed is bad to share, bad stories that way.. What I NEED to say is, if it needs repair, than keep, Good stories of amaising craft when you understand the hands you've been given. ..I meen, wheen have you ever seen a neat writer...I have fases in which I can't be bothered to even sign..
thanks for this video halle, i also find it hard to let go of things even if i’m not going to give them good use. i’ll definitely be taking these tips into consideration 💌
