So I'm a librarian and "I learned HTML for neopets" is actually a VERY common thing I've heard from people my age in my field, myself included. Also I totally played in college and I was so pumped when I finally got all my pets painted the ways I wanted when I was a kid.
When she said Christmas paintbrush is the most affordable and common my 10 year old heart dropped into my stomach as I remembered the unbridled excitement when I won one from a Faerie wheel spin. I spent WEEKS looking up how each species looked painted with it, I cried happy tears to my confused mother, I squealed when my kougra came out looking gorgeous.
I feel your pain. I can't describe how happy I felt when I had randomly found an auction for a Christmas brush for 2000 and won, and then she just goes and minimizes it like that
Tbh the christmas paintbrush is a favrotie of mine along with halloween, desert, and pirate. I’ve owned a Christmas Zafara and a Christ,as Aisha, both which I still owned
If it makes you feel any better, it's actually not the most affordable PB anymore. Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, Stone, Glass, Snow, Glowing, Speckled, and Cloud are all cheaper. It's still on the low end of paint brushes but that doesn't mean it's ugly, there are a bunch of cute Christmas pets. The Christmas PB is probably the best one under 100K NP.
I DID want to hear about you talk about the intricacies of pet trading culture on Neopets for Twenty minutes. I've studied folk lore and game design at Uni. This is like custom made for me. You're great
Honestly, I think it's the sweetest thing in the world that you wanted to earn this pet, and not just cheat your way to the end goal. You are ultimately the same person in a digital world, as you are in the real world, and it just goes to show, you're a good person, who always brings their hardworking and fair minded nature to any and all aspects of life! That's pretty awesome!!! And as for fandoms, show me a fandom that DOESN'T go to incredibly intense levels of commitment. And as you said, you got so much more out of this time, you learned to code, and grew as an artist!! All vital to what you do today!! At the end of the day, your a hardworking and noble hearted person, who is more knowledgeable for their experience! Far as I can tell, you won in the end!!!
Three months from now: "Confessional of a relapsed adult Neopets player...." "I know I shouldn't have done this, but I just had to look..." "Really, I can stop any time i want to..."
Me: *has had no involvement in the Neopets fandom* Also me: *will listen to a 18+ minute video about Neopets for no reason other than the speaker being VERY invested in the content*
I remember when the Fairy brush was first released and literally every single one of my friends both at school and online went NUTS for it. I'm like 90% sure some shady deals went down with pokemon cards and toy trades for that damn paintbrush and of our group only my one friend managed to get their hands on it and several of our mutuals STOPPED BEING HER FRIEND because she didn't tell anyone until she had used it on their Shoyru already.
My mom started playing Neopets when all of us kids did, and she played for years after we got bored. She worked the market like a fiend. This was all back when Neopets first came out, so there were no forums yet or anything of the sort. I can say though that I was so into Neopets and wanting my pet pages to be cool that this is where I also learned to code HTML and CSS (oh those unique pointers and scroll bars!!!), and that is a skill that has helped me long since my days as a Neopian ended. Knowing how serious things got makes me glad that I never pursued this as an adult. My mom has since passed away too, but I think she still played from time to time prior to us losing her.
"Yes, I learned HTML for Neopets" I can relate to this. A year previously my mom had given guest lessons at my school for making web pages and I was, mildly put, not the most interested kid in the class. Then I started playing Neopets and adopted "Drizzt" the cutest and most badass Shoyru (And Drow) and suddenly I asked so many questions my mom could've sworn I wanted to be a programmer when I grew up!
Neopets is the reason I got into digital art and coding! I actually am a freelance artist now, so my entire career is thanks to Neo! I'll be 29 in a week and I find myself CONSTANTLY being pulled back into Neopets to use as a creative outlet. I actually recently came back and it's all I've been talking about with my friends. This video is literally me trying to explain the lore and items.. there's just SO much, hahaha. I'm honestly sure I've seen you around at some point, we've probably interacted in the past!
I was so stuck on Neopets that I had to pull myself out (there's also other problems entangled but let's not get into those). I lived in Neopets since I was a preteen up until my early 20s and I know people who have grandchildren in the community. In fact, when I first joined the group in my mid teens, I was part of the younger bunch because most of our players were between late teens to around mid twenties. My place was the AC community. I... gosh I can't even begin to describe how attached I was to it. It was my home. I centered my yearly schedule on the cup. I made sure my coffees are well stocked, all my chores are done ahead of time and I basically don't sleep and just spam those yooyus and MSNs. I turned myself into a zombie for a month every year and I still talk to some of the people that I met there now and although I live too far from any of them, we have exchanged mails (and got warned by TNT for exchanging rl information lol) and some of them have met up and stayed friends still. I wasn't really into the UC pet craze. I do have some dream pets but they're nothing crazy (just specific colours). But I did hear the stuff about adoption and sending in applications for UC from my friends. I was however, into pet backstroried and original characters and all that. I had done collabs with friends on writing projects telling my pets' story. One of my pet's backstories even got into the Grey Day issue of the NT and to be honest, that's the first time I realised that I could write a decent story because up till then, no other grown-up had ever acknowledged my fiction writing. I've been in a few BCs but I think I won on marketing rather than actual artistic talent. I'm not horrendous and indeed, Neopets made me work hard on improving my artistic prowess but eventually I just accepted that I can't draw as well as most of the cool people in the BC and the art gallery. I've been into random contests too and I still keep the physical poster that won me a pixelated silver trophy. And Neopets was the single reason I learned HTML. I was never great but I coded a lookup and used my own art and I was super proud of it and I never coded anything from scratch ever again. It's just not for me. My knowledge of HTML has reverted back to basic after years of disuse. I was also hugely into restocking. My shop size was like nearly 700 and I've spent more than a million NP just on expanding it. I sold junk, coffee and faerie books and any time there's a huge battle going on, I'll be a mini capitalist brute and sell my stock of healing potions that I've hoarded for years :P I also used to play KQ, Habitarium and WC but only because my friends from my AC group were too (I won't tell which because... I feel like if you're in the small community, you'd figure out who I am :P) and they were all games that we could interact with socially. When I left the place, I know I had to dismantle everything because I would be pulled back otherwise so I dropped my pets in the pound and deleted my accounts. Sometimes I check up on them. Some of them got zapped, others got abandoned and it hurts so much but... I mean they're pixels out there but they're not in my heart. I actually still do write letters to them.... And then write their replies back to me in character. I have a file just to keep our correspondence after I left the game. That really sounds pathetic now. But, more than anything I am absolutely delighted to know that at one time, we might have crossed paths on a virtual world. Thanks for sharing your story.
Diana Yeah, basically old account names and pet names were being deleted & made available again. There was a whole thread on Pound Chat where people would stalk certain names they wanted to see if they were available to use again.
I can’t believe I survived the purge. Somehow remember my account name & password, logging in sporadically over the years. Probably the thing I’m most proud of in life😋 feel terrible for my sister though as I can see her account didn’t make it 😢
oh haven't you heard? TNT announced that there's going to be another. A year or two ago they said it would be sometime "soon" but they've been so busy converting away from Flash & making the mobile site I think it's been put on the backburner
I played as a child in like 2002 for many many years I remember losing my god damn mind over the altador quest starting and finally saving up to buy a plushie paintbrush, learning HTML making pet pages and, after months of trying being featured in the Neopian Times for a comic. All until my neighbour came over one day and whilst I was getting a snack she posted swear words on the forums multiple times and my account got frozen. I cried for weeks. I wrote so many emails begging them to unfreeze it. I never played again but I have held a firey angry grudge ever since.
I have only watched a couple of her videos but I could legit listen to her talk about the chaos of neopets all day. Didn't even play it but the concept of this being a real thing is enough to get me wildly interested.
ahh!! I love everything about this video! Its nice to have the adult neopets players actually acknowledged and talked about since its just... Not something my friends and I admitted to anyone. We started playing in like... 3rd grade? And kept at it on and off throughout college. I definitely got into the pound stuff and applications as an adult but most of my fondness for neopets will always be for the guilds/roleplaying community. Growing up when i told people my hobby was role-playing they always thought I meant d&d and could not understand that I would write stories back and forth with people. I met a lot of wonderful people that helped me grow not just as a writer but as a person. Its crazy to think back on. Eventually that led off site to places like proboards. Anyway, I remember always coming back for the advent calendar. I think it was what led us back to the site in college. Thanks for opening up and making this video. The nostalgia is off the charts tonight. Edit: does anyone remember how dedicated the stock market board was? It took me a long time to get into it but eventually I started making quite the profit from it.
So, Neopets was actually how I got into role-playing. I rped on the boards there and from there moved on to rping on other internet forums, World of Warcraft, and eventually D&D! I have unfortunately lost access to my account as I don't remember my password and the email account used for it no longer exists. Goodbye UC Mutant Techo and the fat stacks of cash I could have sold you for!
When you tell stories talking about things you did as a kid and even in your teens and stuff, I honestly feel like i sort of live vicariously through your memories. Most of the time I just cannot relate to them or I remember how I wish those were things I got to do, like how into Harry Potter you were with your babysitting Wizarding school, but due to my families views on things I was never allowed to partake in these things. I'd say I was decently sheltered as a kid so there were a lot of pop culture things i just wasn't allowed to do. Stuff like Neopets and Club Penguin were some just because I wasn't allowed on a computer very much until I bought my own my freshman year of high school at which point I was a little past that phase of wonderment. Harry Potter was another one i missed completely due to my families religious beliefs. I actually just watched the whole series for the first time ever and at 25 I still absolutely loved it and realized how into I would have been. Anyways I'll quit the monologue, tl;dr I love these types of videos as they give me a glimpse into a life I'd only dreamt of. P.S. I totally love your hair in this video it looks so cute ^-^
OMG THAT WAS YOU WHO RAN THE NEOPIAS NEXT TOP MODEL CONTEST???? I LOVED THAT! I followed it so closely omg And woo nelly do I remember some UC shenanigans. I remember trading a few pets. I remember when I first started trading, people laughed at me and said my pets were worthless and I was a joke and I so hurt, these were my babies they were pinning superficial value on LMAO. I remember applying to adopt and making neopet pages, teaching myself to code for it, I remember also looking at other peoples source codes to see how they did cool things and kinda reverse engineering techniques, GOOD TIMES LMAO
Oh my god, this is such a nostalgia trip! I was one of those kids that made full website designs for adoption applications and did custom adoptable! However, I had to leave Neopets because I was heartbroken, my account was hacked and whoever hacked it put my only prized Dariagn Kougra in the pound and I never got him back and it STILL hurts anytime I think about it.
Oh my god this is my first time seeing this video but I REMEMBER THIS. I remember the Leia incident. I also feel personally subtweeted by the "overly complicated petpage adoptables". I even entered your NNTP with my krawk. XD Wild! I quit for 10 years and seeing all this stuff over again is like...unlocking core memories.
I am still an active adult player of Neopets and have been playing for 19 years. The community is still a lot the same today. And what’s funny, is I was once a ‘big deal’ in the Customisation chat myself when Neopia’s Next Top Model was running and I totally remember you! 😂 I ran several successful Customisation Contests myself but they were single themed contests and not a reoccurring show. We had probably 7 over time. I did frequent rating on the board with my totally rad and awesome graphic awards. :) oh, those were the days! I was college aged myself and would have a few beers and rare pets for HOURS. The Customisation chat has changed drastically over the years and these things really aren’t going on anymore, but it’s still a fun community. My main passion surrounding Neopets these days is Merch collecting. I’ve been merch collecting for years now and have achieved nearly all of the in-store merch released, staff exclusive gifts, signage from events and so much more. It’s a totally addicting process in itself. Def come back to the community some time and say Hi! :) -Shane (Dragon on Neo)
So I was a very serious, very active player back in the day. I made my account in 2003 and like hardcore played it until 2011, every so often I still get on for a few months and play. Anyways I wanted to say I knew like everything you were talking about regarding the boards, pound chat terms, unconverted pets, dreamies, the various ways you can have your account (guild leader, shop runner, avatar collector was actually what I was). Watching this video made me so happy to hear someone casually talking about this thing that only a few people in my life know about/care about. It’s like, I’m glad someone else out there cared this much about neopets too. I’m glad it wasn’t just me. Lol.
"Oh my God I haven't fed my pets in forever, they're probably dead." *Nervously adjusts my shirt collar.* Lol, am i weird for wanting to start a new account after watching this?
They never died- was just hungry. I have long since forgotten my original account stuff but last time I checked the account was still up. I had to make another account to look for it.
I was an adoption centre in the old days! Back before the art conversion happened, I painstakingly gathered all the lab ray map pieces, got access to the lab ray, then dedicated my account to "saving" pets. I'd get badly named basic pets out of the pound, zap them once a day until they were a cool colour, then give them away to other people. Ahh, the old (very old) days. Towards the end of my time there this was becoming obsolete though, because the value of all but a tiny handful of pets was crashing - I think I stopped playing around about the time the only thing worth having was a Draik.
I played all through college too. 😁 It morphed from "cute pets, fun games" into "I will become a neopian tycoon". I learned a ton about economics that way. And yes, learning HTML for pet pages and shops. And I didn't convert my pets to the new artwork. This was a walk down memory lane. Thanks!
I still play neopets. Recently I gave my most beloved neopet to my hunny, so I could delete my old account. I did this, largely to make sure I was no longer dead-named under my old acc, since you can't change your UN. Now I have a new account, a new pet, and am trying to build back up my old wealth.
Ooof that petpage application story hits so close to home! I, too, got sucked back into Neo during college, and for what ever reason I feel like quite a few UC pets went UFA around that time?? I totally remember that RG Kyrii. I went SOOO deep in a multipage application for an UC Grey Ixi and in the end, the owner announced they were too overwhelmed by all of the applications and decided to self-freeze with the pet instead. I was so crushed at the time but thinking back on that, honestly like?? I don't know if I would've been able to choose either. As you said, people spent literal MONTHS making content for those apps. And for UCs, you're not just gonna have a small handful of applicants. I had no idea they banned them now, though! Definitely for the best. While it was a great motivator to be creative, it was waaaaay out of control!
Okay but I love your videos where you just tell us about parts of your life like this one and the renfest video. I know nothing about neopets but I love this video and I’m so into the drama
I never played Neopets, but I had a few college friends who were really into it (you're not alone), so I appreciate how involved this game is. And it definitely seems like a big source of creative inspiration for a lot of folks, which is super cool. Heck, I know at least a couple furries (I'm a furry) who made their FURSONAS neopets. So it was cool to hear about the different aspects of the culture around it. (definitely felt relatable to some of my experiences in World of Warcraft, where people would pay lots of gold to get items that looked cool). Also, I gotta say I love your "storytime with Ginny" videos. I just find it really interesting to hear the stories of your nerdy experiences.
I used to play neopets, since 2001 to 2012. I fit in under the battledomer/trader category, among many other things since there was so much to do on neopets. I spent so much time on neopets; I was so addicted to it, neopets was my life. Which was why I had to leave, freeze my account and burn my bridges behind by giving out most of my valuable stuff to friends. Except for my pets. My pets were my most valued and their losses my guarantee that I will never go back. Neopets meant so much to me. And still does, memories and nostalgia flood back in the more i think about it. I made friends that I still keep in contact with. Neopets is the one game that has influenced me the most, and I am not ashamed to say irl that i used to play it and own up to it. If I had a gamers resume, neopets would be at the top. Neopets is my gamer identity deep down inside me. Lol, i dont know why i wrote all this. Probably a cry from one neopian to another. I vaguely knew about UC's. I knew there were few pets that didnt get converted but i never knew why other than that it was by random. But now i know. It's amazing that there was this culture outside the battledome. Not surprising, considering how big neopets is, but amazing nonetheless. And i share your sentiments! Thanks for sharing your journey!! p.s. If i find myself in a neopets conversation, the first question that would pop up in my mind is: how much NPs did you have? lol! I suppose it is an indicator of how deeply you played neopets, but apparently not the only indicator :)
omg my SHOCK when you revealed you were one of the original nntm judges! I never joined that back in ur day but I was an active app chatter. I was also a horrible procrastinator so most of my apps would be done like the same week the pet was being adopted out lol. still got some tho! I actually completely forgot about the rg kyrii drama you mentioned here. after it happened though me n my friends like, started stalking sites where people sold ucs and every time one we wanted went ufa we would run around cross checking those sites to make sure the pet wasn't actually being sold before we started making our apps
This brought back so many memories! I remember waiting 8 or 9 months to get my favorite pet Lutari, it was a newer species and it has cool mystery involved. By the time I actually got the pet I was kinda bored with the website 😅
God I love this kind of thing. I love neopets. I started in 5th grade. I'm 28 now. I still go though bursts of extreme passion for it. I have multiple AC all-stars and the lookup of the week and a lot of trophies. Neoquest was the bomb. I kind of want to olay NQ1 now and get the gold trophy to go with my NQ2 one
WHOA HOLD UP.... you STARTED Neopia's Next Top Model?? That was my JAM, I remember following along with the contest as a teenager (even though I could never have gotten in with my MS Paint art lol). I actually came back to my account recently and saw there was a cycle that just ended as early as last year, so your legacy has very much continued on
Hey Ginny, This is the most adorable and TERRIFYING thing I've ever seen. So I gotta ask everything ok bud? Quarantine isn't getting to you is it? Lol . . . Well . . . I would say the same thing sort of happened to me with Pokemon Go. Like you I too refused to purchase anything, I worked hard to earn everything I got. So I would be grinding pretty hard everyday after work, literally traveling all across town till 10 pm EVERY night making sure I got all the supplies I needed from every pokestop and relentlessly maintaining every gym in and around my area (Because at the time the longer your pokemon stayed in the gym more poke coins you got). Then the update happened and I continued to hustle and keep my pokemon in those gyms. So a finally a week later someone wrecked all my gyms!!! The next day all my pokemon came back to me and to my surprise I didn't get any extra coins! So for an entire week I had been literally working for nothing! So I immediately vowed to never play the game again!
This is a very niche video and there’s nothing else like it even though I’ve been searching and then you popped up and I’m a new fan :) ty for normalizing our secret world
I am in my early 30's and still on Neopets everyday. I converted one of my uncoverted pets the week they came out. I gave away another uncoverted pet. I am not ashamed.
Man, this takes me back to when my friend was considering trading off her UC RG kyrii to fund training up a battledome pet. I'd try to make offers whenever she'd bring it up, but she'd always say she wasn't for-sure on trading and she'd think about it. I remember it got to the point of making actual spreadsheets of my SDB's net worth, and trading/selling to get stuff on her wishlist to make my offer more appealing so I'd be ready next time she mentioned it. Eventually, she lost interest in playing and I gave it up as a lost cause. Years later, we were talking on discord and the subject of Neopets came up again. "You used to really want my pet, remember?" "Haha yeah, I remember that. Sorry if I annoyed you back then." "No, I'm sorry. I used to just say I was gonna trade her because I got a kick out of seeing the huge offers you'd make." "Yeah I kinda picked up on that after awhile lol no worries." "You still want her? I just logged into my old account and she's still there." "O--Okay? What do you want for her?" "Nothing. I don't play anymore. How do I get her to you?" And that's the story of how I acquired my dream neopet seven years after first trying to trade for her. Life is funny sometimes.
This video just filled me with so much nostalgia i miss the beauty contest and the thrill of the boards. I loved pet page customizing . even tho i was a cringy teen people were so kind and understanding 😭
Went to log in to my old Neopets account sadly it got deleted. I started playing because my ex got me into it but I stopped playing because she broke up with me because I was really hurt and playing it at the time just brought back bad feelings. I miss some of my neopets thought I had a few favorite ones.
I never played Neopets but I used to work for the owners, after they sold Neopets they tried to make an MMO called "twin skies"... it didn't ever come to fruition but it was a lot of fun working for them.
I joined neopets the other day :) I created two pets right off the bat, and adopted two. Lo and behold, the two I adopted are 13 and 12 years old! Quite the interesting fact. I'm still just a casual player, so I mostly just do my dailies, do some battledome battles with RubyRedHorseshoes (my 12yo Peophin!) and play some card games. Those ones are my favorite by far.
I loved neopets so much! I used to love the whole PC / adoption process but ultimately gave up after a few too many failed applications that I had poured so much time into (several of them got re-used as D&D characters a few years later though, lol). I got into avatar collecting after that! My favorite neopets story was probably when I organized a whole rebellion in my guild. I was a lower-ranked member, and very active in the guild chat, whereas most of the council hadn’t logged on in months. I convinced a bunch of the other members, somehow, to all leave with me at the same time on the same day to make a STATEMENT and start our own, brand new guild, and we did, and it was awesome, but Oh My God the fallout drama.
Aw snap Neopets topic. I never got into it but I did love the creatures from target and McDonald’s. I also saw the Odds1Out also talk about neopets and how he and his sister got scammed. And an artist I follow on twitch decided to play neopets and from what I saw the page hasn’t updated since the 2000’s not 2010’s. But it was nice seeing it, your story was fun! And I liked it!
I was a casual Neopet player so I don't have much to contribute to that topic, however I took online playing to the same level on Gaiaonline. From personal profile pages to avatar and art contests, I went hard for most of my teenage/early 20s. I even made lifelong friends from the forums who are now my real life pen pals! I'd never regret the time spent on that site nor make fun of anyone who plays anything seriously because I know the feelings and dedication put into something that brings us joy and how much that means to us on so many levels.
I'm also an adult Neopian. I played a lot in high school and college and then real life took over but I always had fond memories of the site and friends I'd met there (I even met one who lives on the other side of the country in person)! I especially enjoyed the nerdier aspects of the game (Lenny Conundrum, Neopian Times, etc.). The stay at home orders of the pandemic is actually what brought me back and I'm so glad to be on. It's truly a fascinating site. 100% relatable content here.
Me still playing neopets to this day like 1 minute into this video: oh this oughta be good I remember that one year for April fool's, I and a bunch of others on the boards were having the time of our lives narrating fake disasters on site as if we were news anchors. It was a blast! I too still have a few friends I met on Neopets that I talk to.
omg as someone who has never played Neopets and had absolutely no idea what it is... this was a RIDE. I mean, it makes sense and I've kind of played similar games before, so I understand this whole development (and you explained it really well!) but damn... some people really do have a LOT of time and energy (and I guess money) to invest in such things. Anyways, thanks for sharing :D This was delightful!
Honestly, hearing how intensely invested people are (or were) in their online communities/ fandoms always warms my heart Sure you have to be careful to not get too obsessed, but for most people its just such a rewarding experience! You meet new people who might become long term friends, you learn new skills and might even grow as a person Some might think its silly or stupid to get invetsed in fandoms, websites or games, but to me its no different from people getting intensely invetsed in sports, fashion or cars ect. Also the only Pets Site i have any realy experience with, is Flight Rising, it has some similarities to neopets but im mostly a very casual player Still this was an interesting look into one of the internets most historical websites XD
I could not care less about Neopets, but I thoroughly enjoy listening to your voice, Ginny. I left this video playing in the background and by the time it ended, I had no idea what you were saying but I felt entertained by your cadence. Go ahead. Play moar Neopets. Tell us all about it.
Oh boy, neopets! I remember playing it up to, like, maybe high school, but then I lost my email and then couldn't recover my password when I forgot it. I tried creating new accounts from time to time, but it never felt the same, specially because I could look up my original account any time and just look at my pets
Wish I could remember my login for Neopets. Unfortunately it was linked to my OG hotmail email that I've long since forgotten. I picked it up back in '99 when I was in the 8th grade. Dropped it in high school when I transitioned to AdventureQuest but I still remember training my my boss little Shoyru for coliseum battles and making battle scenes of him in MSPaint. Good times.
This is the second video I've seen on your channel and I just want to say you're my new idol. You've just made me feel so much more normal for only going to McDonalds to get the vinyl Neopet toys so I could get the digital rewards. I don't even like those chicken nuggets. RIP my Lupe Caesius that was lost when my account got hacked
I'm back on neopets after 15 years, corona made me do it. I tried playing it a couple years back but I thought it wasn't worth it because of how hard it is to accumulate neopoints, but because of Trudys Suprise, I've been able to complete some of my goals super fast, so it's worth it. My main goals are to get my dream pets, max out their stats, and collect all things Faerie for my gallery. :)
I've played Neo on and off my entire life, I got into it around second grade and hoarded the plushies and magazines. One of my extended hiatuses was a complete rage quit - I wanted a pirate Kougra, and Pirate was the most expensive pet color at the time, it went for Draiks and Krawks and low-tier UCs. So, I got some nice names and lucky lab ray zaps, and traded and traded and traded up to a UC Mutant Buzz. I traded the Buzz for my Pirate Kougra, I made her art, I incorporated her into my other pets' stories, I was so happy - and then, like a month or so later, the Pirate Plot dropped, and pirate morphing potions became super common drops, the price of pirate plummeted (it's still worth nothing to this day), and... I checked out lol I've played since, traded back up to actually achieve my childhood dreams of some UC Kougras, got a little bored again when the site basically stopped functioning without Flash, and then recently started playing again, since the new ownership seems to be heading in a hopeful direction. I'm waiting to see where it goes now, but if it crashes and burns again I've always got Flight Rising to go back to :P
This video must have been from just before I started following you! I currently play and my main thing is I am a meowclops collector so I love your sticker with the meowclops shirt!
omg I remember the pet application process though! I never did it myself, but I was an active artist on the neoboards, and I had someone request me to draw art for their pet app. apparently that was a request some neopets artists disliked, because if the applicant didn't win, the art would just kinda be wasted. But I remember feeling super impressed by this person's dedication, because they were amassing so much art for this app and had written like an entire novel. I never knew neopets shut that process down, but it makes a lot of sense :c
They didn’t shut it down! People just don’t really have the energy for them anymore it seems. Project pages are more popular. But it’s so sweet you did art. Do you remember for which species?
I completely forgot about my Neopets! I was also a college player, and ai was pretty darn serious. I used to buy the plushes at Limited Too and got in trouble more than once for sneaking around firewalls to play in the school computer lab because I was forced to move in with my mom who only had dial up. 😂
alas, the last time I tried to log into my neo pets account there had been a revamp of the password system. It had been a mandatory change but I had missed it. My username was no longer recognized. To be fair it had been several years. I was informed by support that such old accounts were not recoverable. Basically I was away too long, during a reformatting of the site, and the account was deleted.
If you're ever interested in truly trying to get back into the game, try contacting support again, they seem to be pretty slack on that now & are returning accounts if you can prove its yours) a lot of us came back a few months ago because of the virus, my account had originally been de-activated (literally not logged in; in close to 10 years, with one of my old mains that was frozen 2-3 years prior) and staff literally re-activated both accounts. I'm addicted again and hate myself for it, but UC's man. they're great
Watching this video I couldn’t resist trying to look for my old account only to find out it´s still frozen. I used Neopets primarily to rp back in the day but I also did own a UC Fairy Xweetok which I won in such a application contest and itˋs still there, stuck on that frozen account. A shame really. Thanks for this walk down memory lane, Ginny.
So I'm 23 now, and I played Neopets all the way through the end of highschool, through college and now I'm playing it still now. I am doing my dailies as I listen to this. But the thing is, I'm not even a typical Neopets player. I DONT trade pets. I'm not big into that at all. In fact, I only have 3 pets. I have only ever had 3 pets. They're 12 years old and I've been devoting all my NP, dubloons and codestones to them. Originally, after joining the site during the absolute height of the hyperinflation, I was SO broke and getting my pets painted fire, darigan and tyrannian was my ultimate goal. I finally did it and then I got them some clothes, items and backgrounds until now I'm happy with their appearance, and the next goal has just been the Battledome. All I do is restock, do the faerieland employment agency to get NP to buy codestones, to train my Neopets and have them slay at the Battledome. I started LATE to the Battledome game, so for 12 year old pets, they're not that powerful. My most powerful pet is only level 138. If it were possible, like it's being hinted at by the Staff that UC pets were coming back, and if you could potentially deconvert a pet, I'd probably have my Darigan Eyrie become a UC Darigan Eyrie and I'd try and get a hold of a UC Darigan Kougra I like the Robot Ixi and Tyrannian Tuskanniny, but just the sheer effort involved in trying to acquire any of those has me not bothering to attempt at all. I'mma just finally reach that goal of taking on the fucking Snowager.
i miss the charm of old neopets; i played from when i was just around 7 years old up until i was i think 14? (im 19 now to put it in perspective) i have absolutely notebooks and notebooks full of comics and weird doodles of my neopet OC's from back in the day. sure i hardly understand half of what the comics were trying to be about, but it still brings me back asdfds the main account i had eventually got frozen during a neoboards filter incident in summer 2015 and thats basically where i stopped playing. RIP 'rebeccansb'.
lmfao I both participated in and then was a judge on your NNTM contest. It was fun! For some reason the season I judged was, I think, the last? Or it kind of fell apart towards the end? But it was fun while it lasted.
Been a looong time. My favourite was my Mutant Meerka. Most invested I ever got was the one, and only, time I won an art competition for my "Slorgs at War" when Maraqua got released by vector sketching a Maraquan and Pirate Slorg.
I owned a Macy Grey. This video speaks to me on so many levels. One of my best friends to this day was an original programmer for the site games. We found one another on Livejournal and stayed friends despite living the country apart until we were in our 20s. TL:DR This video is nostalgia!!
im a life long Neopets fan i started out with a box game before the online creation site came online i had the card game that went with the box too the fidt character that caught my eye and just cared a lot for was Rufus the Kougra an islander who was responsible for the Gadgadsbogen event , that brought forth new fruits and so on and so forth, it grew from there and also i worked and worked for the electric paintbrush i wanted my Kougra i aptly named STATIKAT, to have that cool aqua blue on cobalt blue but also be anthro like Rufus, Jake the explorer and my absolutely most loved Bertie Shurtz of yooyuball island champion and also one of my most played games on there, i too always been honest and never done any under the table dealings on the site i always had a bad feeling about all of that and stayed away and also i know many think im ultra weird im now 46 years old im a 76er a centennial, and still like Neopets, there was so many beautiful unique characters with unique paintbrush colorings and anthro forms also the fire color was wicked awesome for many Neopets especially kougras and in the yooyuball competition that group looked wicked team Moltara that anthro Kougra was just pure wicked shall we say Fire nation im going i want my second Kougra to be like that just awesome fiery i always thought of the song FIRESTARTER from The Prodigy when i saw that but alas, thanks to some very bad person they ruined my PC i tried again on my laptop and could not get back in one day i will im still trying honorably but to keep my mind working i worked on my Skyrim games and FALLOUT New Vegas, i know one day ill get them back i don't know if they fully reset all for the new owners that are bringing Neopets back i still have the Darkest Fairy Ps2 game, that is one game that needs a full remaster and some bug fixes it is one very great adventure game but yes i was one of those that played a lot every evening it helped me relax after a hard days work in the orchard where my family and i grew many fruit of many varieties plums blue berries apples strawberries but please don't think im weird, i do admire your hard work to get something honorably and think scammers should not do anything like that on something so great but for anything good there is always that one rotten apple that spoils the barrel, that hurts honest players like us.
I haven't logged on in about 2(?) years, but I have had several relapses over the last 20 years. Started in 2001, and was super into it for a while, then got too cool for it, but a few years later I went back and fell right back into things! Every time I get busy and stop playing for a while, but I keep going back eventually!
I loved neopets when I was a teenager so I totally related to this video even though I never had a pet snatched out from under me like ginny di did. I did a lot of drawing thanks to neopets as well and even went out of my way to find the neopets magazine at the book store back when that was a thing. Ah the simpler times
I painted my Flotsam fairy after conversation because they changed the standard blue and I liked him looking as basic as possible xD Use grey wings cause they were tiny and brought the classic circle from the NC store. All my pets were that were painted were auto-converted when conversion happened. I was also an adult neopets player. Still play occasionally. I spent most my time playing flash games and was collecting stamps but it became impossible to keep up with when I took a break.
