This obstacle is terrible. You get to the top and can't maintain any three points of contact, people get up there and barely can get over the damn thing. You have to jump up and pray you don't slip, especially if it is raining. One of the more unnecessary obstacles imho.

Yes they were. Round fat logs covered in slick clay or wet mud. And we didn't have crash pads to catch anyone who fell. It was only hard packed earth waiting but I never saw anyone fall. Almost fell off this shit. It was cold outside & the ladder was icy. Also, unlike the one you do in basic training that are 4 by 4 wood (that is, if you're infantry), the wood on this one is wooden logs & it's painted, making it slippery.

I lived at Fort Rucker in the mid-80s and was messing around on their confidence course as a 6'2" teenager. When I did the Confidence Climb was like "no way in hell I'm going to surmount that very top rung". I notice the trooper in the video didn't go over the very top rung. Is that right?

I think that if it's practice, you don't have to go over the top. When I went to the AA school (1985), we had to go up and over. A truly breathtaking experience for a guy afraid of heights.
@xxxtdartiaga2011
@xxxtdartiaga2011 3 года назад
And yeah at 5'6 you literally had to stand on the last two or three beams and jump up to catch the next beam... I went in the winter time yeah it was wet... And nobody gave a flying f***... And yeah I went over the top because that's what you were required to do the mat sits in the very center but you're required to go up on the left and come down on the right.... In other words if you fell that Matt would have done nothing for you...

@xxxtdartiaga2011
@xxxtdartiaga2011 3 года назад
@@BlackJeepConvertible no you are not permitted to use the vertical columns going down thus I had to hang from the top rung legs spread apart drop to the next wrong below and yes smash your balls catch your breath hang once again legs spread apart to reach the next rung below you which you can't reach so once again you drop balls once again smashing on to that rung but after that you can hang down and your feet will touch the next rung and you will be standing there in mid-air holding on to nothing crouch down until you get to the next run....
