Ryan Erickson takes you through the steps for configuring the Hinkspix PRO using xLights ... a much simpler process than the one the vendor has been presenting.

This video was done two years ago, and it saved my bacon just today. Yes, a few technical things could be improved (screen size and clarity), but I was able to follow it. I had searched all over, watching a few other videos, and then found this one. It is very straightforward and easy to follow. I set up my 16-port LR Receiver from HC in several hours. Next time, I believe it will take me half that. Many thanks for the tutorial! Merry Christmas. 👍👍🎄😁

Thank you for doing this. Using xLights visualizer stopped me from returning all my hinkspix gear this season.

Thank you for the video!!!!!! I was having some problems but now I know I can fix them by watching this video!! You did a great job at explaining how to configure the controller and set them up. Also I’m glad you explained the AC controller cause I’ll be using mine for all my blow ups.

Can you help with this. I am disenchanting with a Hinks pix pro spi bored 16. modal is a 96 node snowflake from holidaycoro. In the Visualizer I have them linked together the firs modal work fine the second modal works but it flashes. Is there some thing that I am missing.

Thanks Keith so much for this video. I had initially used 2020 version x-lights and when I updated to the updated version today, the layout was in a mess especially the 16 port smart receiver. I fixed that with the help of this video. now I am getting couple of warnings as follows: SubModels with duplicate nodes WARN: SubModel 'garage spinner 1/Circle 5 - Outer Ring' contains duplicate nodes: 29. This may not render as expected. WARN: SubModel 'garage spinner-2/Circle 5 - Outer Ring' contains duplicate nodes: 29. This may not render as expected. When I click in the sub-models, I can see 29 appearing twice, I can highlight but cant delete one 29. Thanks!

Duplicate nodes in a submodel means you have included the same node multiple times in the submodel. The warning exists because only one of them will be used. The other will be ignored.

Thank you Kieth for this video it answers alot of questions. I do have a question if there is a way to split a 270 node 36" chroma star and would like to put it on 2 separate ports like 170 and 100 but not sure if it is possible with a hinkspix long range receiver in the visualizer without manually assigning universe per string. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I'd love to see a screenshot of how you setup your models for the smart AC board. There's not much information about the AC board anywhere.

PS to previous comment. I tried doing it via the Holiday Coro method, but got dozens of errors when I rendered my sequence, so I’m apparently lost in the weeds. The holiday Coro video is apparently quite outdated as the xLights and hinkspix screens look quite different now.

Thanks Keith. I had another question. When you double click on any group/model in the sequencer, apart from the sub-models, Strand 1 also appears. Is this normal, or we can turn this off somewhere, Even for the models which do not have sub-models, the Strand 1 layers appears when you double click on the main model. This only happens in sequencing and not in the layout page. Thanks!

This is normal and expected as strands and submodels are at the same drill down depth.

Models daisy chained together can have data issues if the wire is too long. So you will need something like a f-amp to extend the data reach.

I am running into the problem of it say i have to many pixels per port. How do i get around this
@Keithwestley
@Keithwestley Год назад
It depends on why you have too many pixels per port. There are multiple reasons this could be happening. Solving problems like this is best done in the xlights zoom room. Find it in the help menu.

Has anyone had Trouble with using this method and having a single smart receiver? I cannot get the smart receiver portion to work. Everyone works on the hinx but anything mapped to the receiver does basically nothing.

Build a light show in the uk seems a commonly used vendor. You can also try us shipping services. Quinled and advatek also may be an option. Hansen electronics also.

How did you find the IP address for the controller?

@Edward H. my partner ordered the wrong board, he got a 16pt expander board instead of a show runner controller. Found the mistake pretty quick lol thank you for your input though!

this HinksPix Pro thing is impossible to set up. I can't get the Wifi connected and there's virtually no one to ask. The creator has comments turned off on his videos which aren't very easy to understand in the first place. Is there anyone out there who can help me set this controller up?

Your best bet is the xlights zoom room.

Unfortunately, your chart explaining how the logical maps to the physical is too small to read. Taking a screenshot and blowing it up makes it too fuzzy to read. Is there a reason why you didn’t record this in full screen? I’ve been trying too set up a display with a hinkspix pro with a long range and 16 port smart receiver on port 1 and two double 4 port smart remotes on ports 2 and 3. The visualizer seems to randomly assign things to a long range port and in some cases refuses to let me put anything on a port or reassigns things already on a port when I add something new. I’d appreciate it if you could publish the chart at 14:45 of the video separately or update with a more in depth video on the intricacies of the nuances of the mapping of the physical to the logical in xLights. Why does xLights use A, B, C when the long range ports are labeled 1 to 4? (And then of course the SPI ports on the long range receiver are also 1 to 4). I’ve been in IT for decades, but this is a whole new landscape of two different vendors that don’t seem to communicate well. I messed around last year with an alpha pix 4 and a house outline, but this year decided to splurge on a mega tree some mini trees and arches. Now I’m completely frustrated as things looked great in xLights, but don’t seem to work out at all when plugged into the controllers.

It was Ryan's first video and sure there are some technical things that could be improved. Ryan is going to put the documents somewhere but for now AH Lights has them here: www.ahlights.info/Controllers/HinksPixPro/helpPage.php The visualiser does not randomly assign things ... it assigns them in order trying to comply with your configuration ... if your configuration is inconsistent or half done then it can do things like throw out models ... this happens when models overlap as the visualiser cannot handle such models. Normally if you work from left to right on a port these resolve themselves. As for the inconsistencies ... well we are an open source project trying to support lots of controllers so we anchor around common concepts as much as possible as having lots of controller specifics make the code harder to maintain. All other controllers refer to their remotes by A-F ... so we mapped that concept to these controllers. We did put additional information in the tooltips as this we could easily isolate from the common code. You could also ask why the hinks labels the remote ports differently on a 4 port vs a 16 port.
