Back when social media followers , Designer clothes , how much money you had & even the way you looked were totally irrelevant. All that mattered was lyrics , timing & flow and energy & passion
@@ellem1597 yeah but not on the level it is these days otherwise discarda and scratchy would of never been rated would they lol, these days if you dont look like a straight killer or a pretty boy no1 cares.
It did matter. People still got cussed for wearing Wearing Diadora trainers. Nike, New Era Caps, Moschino, Adidas, Prada, Iceberg, and Avirex were the good designers back in the days but now it’s changed to Dior and Balenciagas
This was when grime had no name, it was a clangy, metallic, raw electric sound that was basically a dark version of garage and was much needed at the time. The streets were very sticky at this time. Very dangerous.
New age fans and mcs dont condone this sort of culture though.. but this is what grime is! Grimes dead you have to go back to these times to hear the reals again
Grime is fully dead artists these days are wack. If you didn’t record these sets with a cassette tape rewinding it with a pencil to the best bits then you don’t belong on this video
@@drillr329 tbh he was part of the old school grime era when he started in aftershock crew but we shouldn’t be bringing him into this, such a basic artist
Soon as D Double E touched mic at 29:00 I swear the universe started shaking. The way the camera was going on I thought the whole room was rocking from side to side. MADDDDD
The truth is, when you have a true working class music scene like this emerge, it doesn’t have a name until the media gives it one. They want to label it and brand it, same happened before with Punk music and Grunge. And even Hip Hop. I remember the low quality recordings, no studio recorded music just straight up 30-60 minute live sets, on pirate radio or in clubs. I was from liverpool, some of my mixed race and black friends from Toxteth introduced me to this stuff at the time and it was like magic. It excited me, before I knew it was was writing and spitting my own bars at school. I still spit them to myself now. This music was so accessible to perform but inaccessible to listen to and that’s what it was all about. Getting a sidewinder tape or a d double e album was like gold dust, especially if you didn’t live in London. But somehow, we did.
This is just an incredible 30+ minutes from some incredible artists back in the day when it was totally about your skills on the mic...incredible viewing/listening. Like watching a room full of the great artists painting as their coming up. Wow!
i promise i'm not saying this to be contrarian but out of love for grime...there are so many even better sets out there. i wish they were on youtube. deja, axe fm, rinse...we have to preserve this history. sets with nasty, roll deep, newham generals, slew dem, meridian bloodline, roadside gs, ruff sqwad, the movement. heartless crew, pay as u go. dj spyro, mak10, logan, tubby, slimzee, plasticman. there's literally collectively YEARS of tape of sets, full of brilliant moments, sitting there collecting dust. vital music history .
I may have commented several times throughout the years but I love how d double comes in and just slams a wheel up. I mean everyone else deserves big ups individually as well
I still remember listening to this live and have part of it on tape!! YES TAPE!!! It would never happen but I would love to put everyone in the same room now, a few years under 20 years later 😂 so many millionaires in one room 😂
As soon as Babylon got their hands on it, it was ruined. You've got people making tracks with David Guetto and dressing up like some Love Island chichi men. Grime died as soon as Wiley dropped Rolex.
I dont know where my copy is but plz never lose it. If this ever gets taken down do the honours and upload I beg. In fact do u have the original to copy an send. I need this back for life
One of the best early grime videos of all time! So many big names in a room together with such good old school beats and lyrics! Shame crazy t is inside what a talented mc that man is! Shame aswell you don’t hear of the other mcs in this video as much such as demon gods gift and sharkie
Titch was a menace in Stratford and Plaistow, proper Debo type, used to rob older youts when he was like 11 12, bunning these times aswel. Mum was in and out of prison she was on crud aswell. Feel bad for him to be honest, sad thing is he nearly turned it around but got caught up in a madness
U have to rate Titch. He was competitive without fear, how is man walking into a set and his first bar is "really cant stand you fake MCs wack MCs crap MCs" i have to rate that man
