Definitely relate to the sense of living in the decaying shadow of former glory. In Central Scotland every town has its rotting historical buildings but the population isn't as "diverse" as somewhere like Blackburn. You should check out Coatbridge or Grangemouth some time and see what similarities and differences there are.
