Another point that adds onto the multiverse idea is Arven's birth. In the Main Timeline, the books in the research stations specifically note that our Miraidon/Koraidon come through the time machine shortly before Arven's birth. But the Sada/Turo we give the book to has never seen a Mirai/Korai in person, despite Arven already being born. I was immediately confused upon hearing this, but now it makes a lot more sense! Universe 5 was already slightly different from the main universe, and the Player perpetuates that fact. Great video!

i think it's important that Heath notes in the book that he recognises his own handwriting, but doesn't remember writing it - i think he doesn't remember doing so simply because he hadn't yet, and the person he met was himself from another timeline

Ooh good point! Not only did he never write it, but now, in the main universe, he never would write it. That would mean that in that other universe, Tera Orbs probably existed a lot earlier. Which makes sense: the main universe must be somewhere in the infinite middle of all the universes.

This feels like the definitive timeline explanation, and will be the one I find myself subscribing to. The breakdown of the Turtles All The Way Down is fantastic, and needs to be seen by everyone. The explanation is like an unravelling tale that needs to be watched a second time, knowing where it is going. And I'll go do just that.

This is a great video. However I can't help but feel that those who "checked out" during Gen 6 ORAS onwards multiversal reveal, claiming GameFreak "made it too complicated" or its a "mess" are going unfairly target these games because of this. I have even seen others call this lazy or generic. When its actually fascinating and bold for Pokemon. I guess there are those as STILL in denial that the series is bigger in scope than most gave it credit for. I mean I knew it already was with both Clefairy & Deoxys. Then of course Gen 4 mythos only clinched it for me. Not to mention the multiple meteor event parallels in spinoffs and sheer existence of PMD & how it functions.

I guess it really does depend if the person takes the whole Pokemon franchise seriously, and then they would consider these multiple universes theory as a reason behind what could've been the franchise's timeline inconsistencies or canon inconsistencies, but are not. It's reasonable to accept that there will always be fans who would simply struggle to grasp all this because the number of theologies that were involved to make this all make sense are too much to understand. Hence, their justification to judge a Pokemon product with lazy writing or whatever, it's understandable. Besides, it's not like Gamefreak would outright confirm all these theologies within their writing to the letter so they could flex to their audience how smart they are. But I don't think that would be what I would consider creative writing. Video games is still a visual medium to tell stories, so we get clues to what theology Gamefreak might be using from verifiable evidence in their product.

I'm just intrigued in a way that after we receive the Scarlet/Violet book from Professor Sada/Turo during the Crystal Pool finale that we as players could't access the time machine room afterwards, especially when that book has the signed copy that could reactivate it.

Oh wow, thanks for pointing that out since it makes sense that it blocks the player character from destroying the ecosystem anytime they want. I just thought they didn’t feel like programming a way to get back in/an alternative route to the underdepths.

Great breakdown as always Thing i love most about this approach is that it lets GF do something as wild as past and future pokemon, free of restriction and without tampering too much with the status quo - so we both get to have dinosaur legendary dog trio cake, eat it, and still keep established burned tower lore in tact. Id say embracing multiverses is one of the best decisions pokemon as a game series has made, and cant wait to see where they take it next

One thing that catches my attention and is in plain sight: Master Balls are mass produced in-universe. And it doesn't date from these games, it was already subtly hinted at since the GSC games. It was given mostly by professors but now, students of a school are capable to bestow them. What is happening with the industry?

Thanks! It's unlikely that the Sada/Turo in universe 5 could build a better time machine since they only have Briar's book. The Sada/Turo in the main universe had both Briar's book (or an equivalent) AND the SV book. So it's actually unlikely that a time machine will be created in universe 5 at all, much less a better one than in the main universe.

As someone who previously believed dream theory, I love the explanation given as the main reason I believed dream theory was because the paradox Pokémon didn’t make sense to actually be from the past or future. The way it is handled also works as Terrapagos can travel across time and space but only for brief periods of time. The Time Machine would keep the paradox Pokémon in this timeline by capturing them as inanimate objects like the books and therefore pokeballs as well are able to remain

The original dream theory is exclusive to China (leaks from Khu and other Chinese sourced leaks) since Game Freak would want to avoid having their game potentially banned even if the risk is minimal. Khu backpedaled later on once it was decided that time machine is made from imagination but it functions like a real one when it catches Pokémon from other timelines.

A thought I had. It’s possible for the professor to always give up the book but still get it back. Because what if the copy used in the main game has no origin. When the ai takes it through the machine, it ends up in the past or another universe where the professor had given a player the book.

that part of the DLC where the professors talked about the impossible might change this theory of yours if it's proven that the ''objects'' are the paradox pokemon. said that the vcaves were filled with them but then they all died. my best bet is they're not terapagos, cos there should only be one special crstal boi. terapagos might've brought them when it got there. if so, no need for heath to stumble upon a time rift for that paradox photo, that area might've existed in area zero before, a lush dense tropical area which died in the modern day. main thing that could support that is heath's mention of the fruits that are in the crater but aren't when we got there. a simple ecological change can happen and change an area in as little as 200 years.

Heath's group's picture of the paradox Pokemon shows Terapagos's mist. It's less of a rift and more of a blending of the universes. I'm not sure what the things were in the caves. I think at this point, it matters less what they were and more what they've become.

@@CaylasCapsule and Kieran had a purple aura when he punched the tomb of the lousy trio. Just saying... No need for Terapagos mist for that mist can be normal tropical rainforest mist. If that was a normal mist, then that photo was taken at dawn or at twilight. It happens usually at that time. Also, given that Area Zero is an enclosed space with condensate covering it all (clouds), it is definitely possible for those clouds to descend to the crater floor at night and then rise up again come morning. Just saying... No need for magic when those mist can happen normally

I have a theory that Bloodmoon Ursaluna is a Paradox Pokemon because of the mist and its reappearance and disappearance and Ogerpon is either a piece of Terapagos or a female variant of him.

Bloodmoon Ursaluna is likely based on a real life polar bear that washed up in the exact same way as Bloodmoon, very far from its homeland. I don’t think Ogrepon is related to Terapagos in a genetic way because the crystals aren’t part of Ogrepon’s body.

Universe 5 Sada/Turo were definitely from a different universe during the Crystal Pool scene. We know this because the events we experience at the Crystal Pool are different from what main universe Sada/Turo write in their journal. In the main universe, Sada/Turo keep both books. In universe 5, Sada/Turo only keep Briar's book. After the Crystal Pool scene, previous events in the main universe haven't changed. This is because the change would not impact the historical events of the main universe; it would impact the future events in universe 5. Additionally, the paradox forms are unlikely to have existed in the past/future of the main universe based on what we know about them from various in-game text.

@@CaylasCapsule I know this is 4 months old, but if you see this please reply. I like your theory but the one problem I have with it is that the paradox pokemon are explicitly stated to have existed during the original Paldea empire because the pokedex says that their names came from ancient records of pokemon that look the same as them, records that Heath didn't find but the team from the occulture magazine did, the pokedex verifies the records for that games version exclusives as real and the opposite version as uncomfirmed. Also that means Turo in Violet failed in his goal he made a time machine but it was pulling pokemon from the past not the future.

The multiverse can be a successful tool when justifying experimental Pokémon designs, definitely was for Ultrabeast and Paradox, it's hardly any good for worldbuilding since it makes everything trivial therefore narratively inconclusive, including SV story, where Arven doesn't even get his answer... Happy that Game Freak is working in continuity with previous games, unhappy that the cauldron where everything goes that the multiverse is could be used for everything from now on.

I guess you could look at it that way, like nothing matters if the multiverse is that vast. You could think the same thing about real life: in our vast universe full of possibilities, do we really matter at all? But I prefer to think of the little wonders we are fortunate to experience in our infinitesimally small lives. I prefer to think of a multiverse like this as full of possibilities rather than as meaningless. Got a little deep there, but I guess what I’m saying is, we can choose to see this multiversal design in a pessimistic or optimistic way, but I’m choosing optimistic.

The time machine should still be built even if the professor from another universe, the book was just an inspiration, it didn't contain the science they needed

It contained their childhood signature, which they used as the key to activate the time machine. Without that, what would they have used as the key? It's possible they'd still build it, but at the very least the key would be different, which would cause a whole bunch of other things to be different.

@@CaylasCapsule I mean, literally any form of digital ID could activate the time machine. I think it's even likely the Professor themself was able to activate the time machine without the book since Arven just found out laying around in the lighthouse rather than any of the Area Zero labs.

@@Shinntoku The professor was very careful for it to be an ID that other people might not know about, and one that would be difficult for people to have a copy of. We also know it had to be the ID in the book because the pedestal on the time machine was designed for the book. I personally don't think the professor would be able to think of a safe ID to use, and therefore the time machine wouldn't be built. But it's entirely possible that they could have found something that they felt was safe enough to use; I just can't think of anything else safe enough. Any thoughts on what that could be?

@@CaylasCapsule I don't think they were really careful so much as they were sentimental. We don't actually know what ID the time machine was looking for, it's equally possible they just stuck a computer chip with their digital ID into the spine. The book isn't a necessary thing to keep the time machine running after all, it was needed to overwrite the professor's command that kept the time machine on.

I used to do theatre. Played Benny in "Guys and Dolls," complete with a fake mustache and everything. So not only can I do a low character voice, but I can sing in one, too! :D Fortunately, I don't think there's footage of my fake deep voice on the internet, hahaha.
