Wow. That’s nuts. I love Walman. I’ll root for him no matter what team he’s on. BUT this exciting.. I’ve been looking forward to big moves, and this looks like it’s the start of them..
As a Sharks fan, thanks for Walman. The Wings do have upside and I think this means you guys are going hard for a top player. I could see Guentzel, Kane, Reinhart or maybe a big trade with Carolina for Nechas.
Obviously that's the vase. The big problem is attaching a second rounder to what is (in my mind) a positive asset like Walman for nothing. Not good asset management by Stevie
Amen. That's the contract that should have been traded. Not getting anything for Walman is the worst look Yzerman has had so far, barring something coming from 'future considerations'
Walman was a healthy scratch over the last couple weeks of the season. There was oddly no media coverage about it. Something happened with Jake. This trade seems to support that.
@@kylezammit1868 wasn’t on the injury report at all those last couple of weeks. I looked daily because I couldn’t imagine he wouldn’t be playing otherwise.
I suspect Walman has a career ending or long term injury. Also heard him and larks didn’t get along bc Walman was insensitive when Larkin and his wife lost the baby
When we traded Vrana, he was just getting out of the player assistance program, and played more games that season in Grand Rapids than in Detroit. He was barely playing in the NHL, let alone playing like a superstar.
He just coached us to our best season in years. Relax. Walman's big season two years ago was a flash in the pan. A mid-tier guy getting big minutes and taking advantage of it temporarily. He wasn't great last year.
As a Sharks fan this is a win either way. Either the Yzerplan goes perfectly and Detroit becomes a massive contender for the Cup (it feels weird that they aren't), or it's revealed that Stevie Y was NOT cooking and we get a free dman and 2nd rounder and we get to see a historical rival suffer at the bottom. Still hope that this one pans out for y'all, though.
Why confusing? They have D talent in GR, need to sign Raymond/Seider/Kane et al. Walman scored some, but was a D liability the Wings need to fix, and had a decent sized salary they’re no longer carrying.
The last player that Stevie had to trade and give another team a draft pick for him was Vrana🤔.. I tried paying attention to Stevie-Y.. I think something was going on behind the scenes we don't know about.. I've heard of some things that Walman has done but who knows..
Said it at the deadline. Plan is to offload Copp with Salary retained. San Jose is the only team that can afford to hide him on the 4th line for like 2 million a year
Stevie and surprises go hand in hand man! But this has got to pan out somehow and we’ll see how eventually. Yzerman is shrewd. There’s 8 moves that are connected to this we don’t see yet.
They technically do. The NHL outlawed them a few years ago with only specific reasons that you can do it, so it feels like a corresponding move is coming
We definitely overvalued walman, but this still feels… off? Idk, maybe there is something that the public is not privy to about walman. Just seems strange that you had to give up a second round pick to unload his very reasonable contract. The other side of this is much scarier and that is this might just be the byproduct of Yzerman’s awful free agent signings over the last few years. Does this still happen if Yzerman didn’t sign holl and copp and trade for Petry? All I know is that with yzerman’s recent free agent track record, I am scared out of my mind at the idea of what he might do with more or less around 14 million in free cap after Seider and Raymond are signed
Naaah, something is definitely up!..🤔 I mean I completely understand what Steve is doing but I know him too well to know that.. moves like these don't follow up without some type of bigger plan at work..
It’s only a head scratcher today. There’s something going down. There’s obviously a reason for this. But we don’t have all of the information. Everyone relax. It’s not even 2 full days after the cup final, and not even July. Trust me, there’s a reason.
@@HealthyScratchRedWingsReport yes definitely a cap dump, but for what? I’m sure that by the time the season starts, everyone will be just fine with the move. I’m expecting Holl to be bought out soon to add more cap room as well.
@@jasondunajski7109 I think if you seperate it into 2 lines of thinking it makes sense, 1 - the trade was pretty bad asset management by Stevie, and 2 - that trade could springboard us to some major additions. Both can be true!
Yep seems to be the two guys they want back. I want Kane back for sure, Ghost I think is going to cost too much. He was a great PP QB for us but I think I'd rather keep the money, have Mo on PP1 and get a Dman like Roy or Zadorov that can defend better than Ghost
I have to say Zadina is absolutely a bust, and Kostin doesn't move the needle. They're both on a horrible team where they'll play most. I'd rather have Fischer tbh
So we keep Holl, Petry & Copp which are the most cap unfriendly contracts. Add them up and you get 15,275,000. Copp's cap hit this year is 5,625,000. Petry's cap hit this year is 6,250,000. I honestly don't know what SY is thinking.
@doughunks4221 Petry had salary retained when we got him. The future considerations are probably to dish Copp off to them, but we're still gonna have to retain some of his salary. Probably like 3 Million of it
@@theskatebus1687 this came from Google. "Jeff Petry's salary is $5,000,000 and his cap hit is $6,250,000 for the 2024-25 season. His salary is comprised of $2,000,000 in signing bonuses and $3,000,000 in base salary."
Complete Shit Show! No defending this unless Walman is hurt. 1: Either is was horrible signing- SY cost us a 2nd 2: Why the Hell couldn't we put him on waivers?- cost us a 2nd 3: Why the Hell was he playing top pair all yr if we have to give a 2nd to get rid of him?- cost us a 2nd No matter how you cut or shape this.. unless Walman is hurt SY cost us a 2nd round pick This absolutely undermines my trust in him going forward Now I'm worried what he's going to do with ALL THAT CAP SPACE! Sign more bad contracts?
You make really valid points. I think there were other options Yzerman should have explored (like offer Walman to more teams and see if you can get anything)
@@laonpowell6823 I think you misunderstood me I totally agree with you lol. I just meant rather than packaging the second throw him on waivers first just to see what happens
@@HealthyScratchRedWingsReport Yes, elliott friedman, frank seravelli and basically everyone is saying Yzerman donated a 2nd round pick which Sharks turned around and used to move up in draft and Askarov is avaliblable now which we could probably get for a 2nd... absolute shit show Yzerman needs to pull a Joe Sakic and just be President and hire a GM at this point
