Targeted, Railroaded, Sent to prison, offered a deal to get out after only 9 months of incarceration if he admitted guilt... He refused to admit to something he didn't do... Served the remainder of his 7 year sentence... I hope there is a special place in heaven for someone so noble, brave and fearless. A true patriot and one hell of an advocate of the American people. I am a high school teacher and I had a student back in the early 2000s who was a House page. When she returned after her year in Washington, she told me that Jim Traficant was her favorite House member. Dude was a legend.
I grew up in the old 17th district, in Girard, Ohio, with "Jimbo" as my congressman. He was a one of a kind, he called it exactly as he saw it, and took no crap from anybody. We loved him back home, and that meant the old boy network in DC did not. He looked after his people, and he cared. I remember when I won the regional spelling bee to qualify me for the national competition, in 1990...I was 10 years old. He sent me a beautiful letter, not a form letter devoid of feeling, but a real letter, congratulating me and telling me he was proud of me and that representing my area would make people back home proud. He even wanted to meet me when my mom and I got there, but something had come up last minute and he was not able to do so when we got to the Capitol. They just do not make them like this guy anymore, and guys like him were rare to begin with. RIP Jimbo.

Traficant was a great Congressman dedicated to representing his constituents. I worked on the Hill when traficant was in Congress and I will never forget when you passed him in the halls, he was always friendly and would always say to me, "I'm with you on that vote today Mr. Chairman" knowing I was a simple 22 year old staffer. Great guy!
Must have been fun !! He was SO well grounded and didn't think of himself as someone who should be worshipped.... unlike most of the louts in Congress today.
I liked him he had the guts to say the things that no one else would say that needed to be said and discussed and brought out into the open he talked like the rest of us just plain down to earth everyday speech in other words he didn't forget where he came from he was with the common folk he did not try to rise above or think he was better than them thanks Mr. Traficant I will miss you RIP you did good you did better than most folk ever will
I lived in an apartment on this man's property in Greenford, Ohio. When he got out he died at that very same farm. What a shame, they dont make them like that anymore.
If Jim wasn't right , he wouldn't have got the harassment and targeted smear campaign that plagued him. Legendary man. Integrity and honesty by the bucket load .

My late friend was a staffer for Traficant, and I know for a fact that he did a TON for the Valley, and if he was still in office, GM would still be operating!

Bush gas prices? No fan of Bush, but along with the cash for clunkers fiasco, put that on 44. Along with LBJ, and this piece of garbage, 44 is the worst we ever had. Missed the time he farted into the mic when it became clear he was being removed for bribery. Never have been able to find a record of it online but three family members say it happened. When I tried to search it on Google it autocompleted. So I know others have been looking for it
