The Conklin Duragraph is one of the best value cast-resin acrylic fountain pens we've seen come out. It writes and looks great for only $52, definitely a great 'step up' pen for anyone looking to get a more classic-looking pen. Learn all about it in this video.

Fantastic pen and great value for the money. The nib (I bought medium) writes on the finer side of medium. The nib is very rigid, but also one of the smoothest nibs I have....it glides across all different grades of paper. The feed and the nib are wet enough, but not gushers. Aside from the outstanding quality of the nib, the aspect of the pen I enjoy most is the comfort in hand. The threads are so fine, you can't notice them and there is no step to speak of. Finally, the threaded converter makes for a secure and clean filling experience. I wish more pens would use threaded converters. Only downside from my perspective is the ridiculous posted length.

I got the Amber. loved the look and actually nice to use. Nib was nice and smooth. However the flow was very poor. Tried a whole lot of things but the nib/feed combination just made the pen totally unusable. I replaced the nib and feed from a 5$ W Smith generic pen and now works marvelously. Really enjoy it.

I like this pen, but I had difficulty with poor flow. I got with your customer service folks and they asked me to change to a Goulet nib, at your expense, I had a Goulet XF that I had placed on a Jinhao 159 and I swapped them and it flows well now. I'll fiddle with the nib and try out the .0020 bras sheets I got from you.

Love my Duragraph. I filled mine with Noodler's Habenaro. Their medium nib writes close to a fine nib. I bought the Monteverde Intima Glacier with a fine nib and it was broader than the midium nib from the Druagraph. BTW, Goulet Pens rocks!
@dbreardon
@dbreardon 9 лет назад
Actually the Glacier has Liberty Elysium and Duragraph has Habanero. Perhaps there is a difference in ink flow or dry time. BTW, Habanero is almost a dead on color (after drying) for the Amber Duragraph.....fantastic!

Just recently got a Duragraph in abalone with a stub nib -- it's settled out into a very nice pen but was a hard-starter when I first started using it. Should have flushed it out beforehand, but it's very nice now, and a beautiful pen.

I own two of these, one with a fine nib and one with the 1.1 stub. The fine nib is a bit too sharp for my taste, but it works very well. I'm crazy for the 1.1 stub, though. The written result is just gorgeous--dynamic and distinctive, but still easy to read. The pen is easy to hold, easy to clean and refill, and comfortable in the hand. I have the cracked ice (it looks much better in person), and I have another color that I got from another retailer. It's a beautiful dark pink. Really a great pen at this price.

Hello! I was planning on getting one of these pens but I'm unsure about what nib size I should get. I plan on writing notes for school with this and also tracing over sketches i make with this as well. Meaning I plan to be able to have a smooth writing as well as being able to draw some somewhat fine details. Also you said you got multiple colors which one looked best to you. (I write a little bigger and spacey)
@austinmalone5197
@austinmalone5197 9 лет назад
The crescent shaped breather hole's larger surface area allows for excess evaporation, causing the nib to dry out, not usually an issue with Fine and Medium nibs, but could lead to issues with a stub, especially since the same feeds are used for F-1.1mm.

Thank you for the great detailed review of this pen. I have had one for a few months and it has done great. I have used a few different inks over the months. In the past few weeks it has been not so great. About every few minutes it stops writing and the only way I can get it to start again is to take it apart and give the converter a little twist to push some ink along. Do you have any ideas of why this is happening and what I can do about it?

I was looking to buy one of these Duragraphs and then looking at the nib/feed section I went, "Gee that looks like the same one on my $3.50 Jinhao X750!" The feed and the shape of the grip section where the feed inserts is identical. The only thing I can't see is if there is a #6 in the circle on the bottom of the feed. And as you said, made in China. No wonder it comes with the converter and is so cheap! It is probably the same people with Jinhao. Still a beautiful pen and that is probably how you make it out of such a fine resin.

Do any pen companies make their feeds different depending on the nib size? Or is it purely the nib itself changing the ink flow?
@mamalovesthebeach437
@mamalovesthebeach437 6 лет назад
I realize this is an old question but still relevant . . . I was actually wondering if the flow was dependent on the converter used in addition to the nibs. Flow is the biggest issue I've had with my pens.

Which of the three nibs available with the duragraph is the best/most unique? I have other pens with fine/medium/1.1 stub nibs. But I love the look of the amber and with the monteverde ink promo it seems like a good deal. Fine seems pretty regular. You say the medium has a stub like character to it, which is cool. And you mention the 1.1 stub write like a calligraphy pen, but does that not apply to all 1.1 stubs?
@Gouletpens
@Gouletpens 6 лет назад
I really like the 1.1mm stub nib on the Duragraph. It's a pretty wet writer with that, which might be what Brian was getting at. Definitely the most unique offering, plus you could swap on a Goulet #6 nib (1.5mm?) for something different. - Colin

I had a Duragraph with the 1.1 stub nib that I absolutely loved! I carried it for almost three years loaded with Noodler's Bay State Blue. I made the mistake of slipping it into my back pocket and sat on it, and broke the barrel section of the pen. You guys (Goulet) suggested contacting the importer for a replacement part. I sent it in and they promptly sent me a brand new identical pen. The only problem is that the nib doesn't flow at all... I've "de-greased" it and flushed it numerous times, but it still performs abysmally. What do you suggest?

I'm considering these pens. Can I ask, how do the F, M, B nib sizes compare to "Western" sizes? Are the similar, or finer? (like the Japanese nibs)
@Gouletpens
@Gouletpens 3 года назад
These nibs are made by JoWo in Germany, so they are precisely what you would consider to be western nibs. The fine will be broader than a Japanese fine, the medium will be a little closer to what a Japanese medium might be (depends on the pen model) and broads are almost indistinguishable between Japanese and western. If you look at the Nib Nook tool on GouletPens.com, you can compare individual writing samples of every nib and every pen we carry! -Brian Goulet

Citizen Z Probably very late but for future reference, unless exams formally say that Liquid Ink is not allowed, you should be able to use them. I don’t know of any fountain pen ink that evaporates or fades over time, in fact they’re made not to do that so you’ll be ok as long as you keep it simple. Maybe don’t use iron gall, shimmerink or any special exceptions but simple blue, black or something in between has worked for me for exams.
