Thanks to Randy/N7EBB, we now have a Radio Interface Board that works with DigiPi. This includes a PTT circuit and status LEDs, in addition to a ps2 jack or TRRS connector, all on a single pre-fab board. You can buy the parts kit and solder it together yourself, or Randy will ship you a completed board at a very reasonable price for ham-made equipment.

Soldering is cool! I didn’t learn how until after high school. Also, it’s _”the gift that keeps on giving”_ 😀 If you use *_rosin core_* solder and some of the rosin fumes get into your nose hairs, you’ll continue to smell that aromatic pine scent for a couple of days. *73 de AF6AS*

Thank you very much for another great video! Thank you also Randy for building this interface board. I have one question. Is there a reason to use PS/2 interface? I assume for using it with various devices e.g. Yaesu, Baofeng etc? Alternatively could one use the TRRS audio input directly?

I must be self obsessed if I have to find my name on your Patreon list. All joking aside I really appreciate you for doing all this work. I reordered the sound card from the website again. I don't think the website was working correctly last time I tried. I have the interface ordered also. Have you been in touch with the owners over at C4Labs. Would they be interested in making a case for you? They do a ton of RPi hotspots. They are beautiful. I don't feel that they are that expensive. I just bought a Hakko FR-301 desoldering gun. I am really looking forward to getting into building devices like this. I have the soldering tools already. I'm really diggin' the solder and flux fumes in my old age, man...

Id like a interface like this to create and send APRS bulletins. I live outside Daytona Beach, there are always one event or another in the area, as as such you can see the travels come into town, stay a while and leave. Id like to post a daily bulletin, something that will rebroadcast every "X", minutes, and repeat for "Y" hours.
@KM6LYW
@KM6LYW 24 дня назад
Cool, lookup the TBEACON line for direwolf. you can run a command for the beacon comment which can output anything, or you can hardcode your bulletin. Keep in mind that Karen doesn't like broadcasting, so make sure there is "telemetry" data in your beacons. I did a video on custom beacons here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lMlgJ8wPXbM.html

if you get digipi-1.8-2-TEST3, you simply put "RTS" as your rig number when you intialize. if using 1.8-1, you append "PTT /dev/ttyUSB0 RTS" to the bottom of each direwolf .conf file.

Have you created a 3D model of this setup yet, for a case. If not could you modify the model you shared with us to accomidate this exact setup as I am going to be making in this exact setup and have no clue how to 3D model. I just ordered the interface and sound card. Would like to have printed for its arrival. Blender file would be fine as I would have to resize height as it may be off a little.

the PS2 connector will kinda blow up the case idea..even then, it still sticks up above the screen quite a bit. I'm not a 3d printing guru.

@@craig9309 I'll try to reach out to the Ham community and see if we can come up with a solution. I may try to force learn Blender again. or even see if I can transpose file into Tinkercad or the like.

I received the sound card from Budd but I see there is a huge backup of orders on the DIGIPI "RADIO INTERFACE BOARD units. I am looking at the Yaesu FT-60 HT but is there a mobile radio you would recommend for a digipeater?
@KM6LYW
@KM6LYW 6 месяцев назад
For my money, I like the Yaesu 2980, no moving parts, no fans, no relays, and the price is right at $150. The ft60 needs a special cable with capacitor/resistor iirc.
@1crazynordlander
@1crazynordlander 6 месяцев назад
@@KM6LYW I have the DigiPi digipeater working with a IC-705. If I purchase the Yaesu FT2980 radio and I add the sound card I bought from Budd and the Radio Interface Board from Randy to my DigiPi I am guessing there is a easy way to make a cable or buy a cable for the Yaesu FT-2980 that doesn't require the capacitor/resistor or do I even need the Radio Interface Board from Randy? I just need the cable between Budd's soundcard on the DigiPi and the Yaesu FT-2980?
@KM6LYW
@KM6LYW 6 месяцев назад
@@1crazynordlander That's correct, the 2980 uses two cables, the speaker out (audio out, ground), and the RJ12 jack on the front (audio in, ground, PTT). I made the RJ12 cable, see my DigiPi hardware/build video for this exact radio setup. Yaesu HT's need the capacitor/resistor. look in your manuals for "TNC Cable" -- most manuals show the diagram.

Soldering burns are nothing to me. I think I was born with a soldering iron in my hand. (Maybe that's my mom uses to cry when she looked at me! Ya think!!) But now my hands shake so bad I can not hold a soldering iron steady enough to heat up the parts!!!!!!!! I had to sent a project out to a friend. Thought I could do it, but did damage on the 4th part I installed. Yea!!
