Targeting what radio? There are SDR apps that can listen and decode packets. The receive-only RTL-SDR Blog dongle is linked in Craig's video description.
Oh man, I'm optimistic about this. In the past it was such a chore to download satellite images, really hoping it's this simple!! (Leave it to Craig for finding an easy solution!)
As a trucker I have a hotish CB, so it's tough to not say the 10 codes when I am on the ham radio. Also seems like everybody loves to talk too fast whether it's phonetic or non phonetic. It's like they have to be airline pilots
@@TyGunnlaugsson that's correct... if you want a full featured data transceiver, you want DigiPi digipi.org . Ygate is a super convenient receive-only alternative.
Excellent video/information. I have a Kenwood TS-50, 20 amp power supply for my TS 440 AT. When I use CW, the power supply gets hot and even needed repair recently, so I am looking for another Power Supply. Will look at Samlex 1235p-m. I can use the TS-50 with diodes for the Handy. Good advice! Subscribed!
hey man! what do you think of the aioc for the baofeng radios? its an all in one programming chip that has a sound card built in im going to figure out how to use it on your digipi think it would pair up nicely without having to add much to the pi.
hi justin, i don't have one myself, but it looks cool. if it's an cm108 implementation with integrated gpio, you can edit the direwolf .conf files to use the cm108 chip. DigiPi doesn't overtly support these - yet

Took another run at digipi today to see if I might fall in love now that I have a radio with built in USB sound card/cat control with the QRPLabs QMX+. I wanted to create a streamlined kit for impromptu field operations. Using the same WSJT-X interface was a game changer over the FT8CN Android option. Yes, I now have to carry a tiny Rpi Zero 2W but I can drop the burner Android phone and use the iOS phone I already have in my pocket. Plus I can run the Rpi Zero off the same tiny TalentCell 12v+5v USB battery!
hi, im running a digipi with an audioinjector z and a rpi zero w2. ft8 works fine so i know the board is setup ok. the aprs though... when i start the igate or digipeater the log shows i am connected to the server. when i send a packet from aprsdroid it doesn't show any errors in the direwolf.log nor on aprsdroid and my radio keys up on 144.390. What i don't have is any incomming packets. Nor do my packets show on the digipi. any ideas?
@@KM6LYW i just opened direwold.Log. it showed a little more info. It just shows several failed server connection attempts then finally a successful one and that I was verified. It also shows where aprsdroid sent beacons and I can send a message that shows in the log. Just doesn't receive anything.. shouldn't it receive Web connections?
@@KM6LYW I checked that. It showed my successful connection to the server and that I'm verified. It shows my outgoing beacons and messages but nothing coming back. I even tried to message wxbot and didn't get anything back. My radio does key up for beacons and messages. If I send a packet from another radio it does show up but shouldn't I be getting web packets also?
@@juggalizzle75 No webchat wont get web-packets unless you turn that on in ~/config/aprsd/aprsd.conf (and reboot). You need to confirm you're receiving somehow. it sounds like direwolf likes your audio card. this discussion is probably best for the DigiPi mailing list too.
I had some real troubles with PTT.. After much tearing apart, checking, etc., I finally replaced the image to find it worked! ..... Until I went through the Initialization stage. After many attempts, I finally discovered that if I change ANY of the "USB-connected radios only" settings, PTT will not work on a non USB device (I'm setting this up for Anytone-Raspberry Pi5.
Deans... old school rc guy I'm guessing. I have a few ziplock bags full of deans ultras since I recently switched to xt60 (because modern chargers and lipos all use xt60 anymore). I'm local... let me know if you need some more Deans for your experiments lol.
"full quieting" sounds a little close to "Li'l quietly" over the radio, so that's confusing! I guess I was actually coming in clearly when I radiochecked for the first time yesterday... Also, the live bumper is great, haha! You're a good player! 73
FYI - 12V is not in the USB power delivery standard, most batteries will not be able to supply it (read the specs). Even if you buy a 12v trigger the source will not negotiate. 13.8V is a PD standard, and most 12V ham stuff is rated 12v+15% = 13.8v -- CHECK your manual
Yes, it's really up to the battery to supply the requested 12V. The nitecore battery manual specifically states 5V/3.2A, 9/2.2A and 12V/1.68A on the PD port. In fact, those numbers are printed on the battery itself as well.
I made up an MT3608 boost converter for 12.0 volts exact for my QMX Qrp rig ...maybe i,ll try one of these also The QMX draws 1.0 amps which is the limit of the mt-3608 I like a little headroom when i can get it,.Not that the 3608 has a problem but will try one of these just for giggles.73' jim KB1PFL
lol i run my extra fridge off usbc from a 65w gan wall charger. runs into a 5s lipol powerbank which runs around 20v, and then supplys about 20vdc to the fridge. its one of those 54 liter 12/24v dc fridges for cars but i put all my drinks in there and it uses..... waitfor it... 115wh/day. i figure its so efficient if it keeps me from opening my regular fridge more than once per day it probably ends up saving power overall since its so efficient. i wrapped it in aluminum foil tape to reduce the thermal emissivity. i am finding so many uses for usb-c
Thanks Craig, I walk my Dalmation everyday and your solution is just what I was thinking about. Dalli's always walk with their tail vertical just waiting for a foil antenna to be mounted on it. Come to think of it it add a small saddlebag and she could be an APRS-K9 Mobile. Keep up the Bumper Music too. Vk5kov
Already said in the live chat, but make sure your source is PD and actually supplies the higher voltages. I tried this but only got 9v from a 12v trigger. Good reminder, I have since acquired more PD sources (with up to 20V), so I need to try the triggers again.
you can push 45watts when doing 15volts, but have to be careful of hardware's voltage tolerance and not all PD chargers and power banks support the 15volt output standard
Id like a interface like this to create and send APRS bulletins. I live outside Daytona Beach, there are always one event or another in the area, as as such you can see the travels come into town, stay a while and leave. Id like to post a daily bulletin, something that will rebroadcast every "X", minutes, and repeat for "Y" hours.
Cool, lookup the TBEACON line for direwolf. you can run a command for the beacon comment which can output anything, or you can hardcode your bulletin. Keep in mind that Karen doesn't like broadcasting, so make sure there is "telemetry" data in your beacons. I did a video on custom beacons here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lMlgJ8wPXbM.html
