Some troopers stand on the passenger side just for that reason. The sad thing is that he pulled the car over for not wearing a seatbelt. It is sad, but our time is predestined by God, even if we don't like to hear this information.
For minor offenses, cops should just let people go on their way and stop harassing People and pulling over them for seatbelt risking his own life and others.
He was killed hassling citizens for seatbelt revenue by someone who was allowed to commit and get away with much more serious crimes and endanger all of us in the process.

@mattatuckmanful You have the wrong mindset. Getting a ticket or a warning for not wearing a seat belt is for your own safety and others around you. Not to make a "quick check" for the government. If they allowed everyone off the hook with "minor offenses" all the time, people would continue to do with since there is no thoughts of repercussions. Just because YOU think they are out for the money doesn't mean they all are. A good majority of police are concerned about the well-being and safety of their communities, like the one who just lost his life over a dangerous driver.
