I love the bit at 1:52 where the RCBO is in the on position and 4 seconds later its magically moved to the off position!!! 🤣🤣🤣 I fitted my first one of these recently and thank you so much for the heads up about what they do and how they work. 👍👍👍
HI Wyn - Great to understand that you had such a positive experience with our equipment. Was it the priority board? Get in contact if you need any further info - conor@garo.co.uk
I fitted the non priority. The priority one is not ideal for a two shower setup, as if someone was in the middle of having a shower in one, and someone else decides to have a shower in two. The person in one won't be very happy 😂
You will be the "Cream of the Crop" when you solve a few loading issues with our board. Let me know if I can help with any of our products - conor@garo.co.uk 👍
Used a similar setup in welfare cabins. Turned heaters off when kettle clicked on to prevent overload on 16a genny. Soon as kettle boiled, heaters back on.
Anyone wanna talk about the elephant in the room?.....just me?.....ok, well we all know Joe would have made more sense explaining this brilliant & complex bit of kit! 🤣
Would one of these boards help in my situation. I have an 80A cut out fuses. I have a 6Kw shower and a 3.7Kw electric oven. Heres where it gets complicated. In my Hobby work shop that is supplied by a 16mm SWA cable into a 80 amp sub board.. I need to power a 9.2Kw Static phase converter at 63amps. Clearly you can see the problem. My DNO arent willing to engage to upgrade the domestic supply and the cost of installing a 22Kw 3 phase supply is cost prohibitive. yes I know the Garo board is only rated at 40A. But maybe a higher capacity contactor rated at 63a to control the Phase converter? The shower and oven to take priority without cutting the supply to the hobby workshop.
Going in my basket. This is going to make installation so much easier. The new technologies and products that Gary, Joe and Gordon are bringing to our attention is brilliant. Thanks efixx 👍
Hi LocoSanjoca - Great profile name. This is a long-standing member of the Garo product range for many years. Get in contact if you need any further info - conor@garo.co.uk
so if the other half is singing away in the shower you can pull the switch on the other one and turn it into a soap opera? and stop thinking about my other half naked in the shower, you will get yourself into a lather.
Good evening. I've just installed one of these in a property but am not sure how to record the DB and devices on an EIC. Do you know how I would go about doing this? Thanks
Just been to an urgent call out where owners 60amp fuse had blown. Electeic shower and ev charger on at same time along with hot tub. Im booked to install one of these this week. Thanks efixx just so happened to watch this video earlier in the week and its an awsum product.
Hi James - Great to hear that the product has come in handy. Worth having a look at the Garo EV range with DLM. Get in contact if you have any further questions - conor@garo.co.uk
Here in france they use a box that fits on the din rail called a delestuer with a ring that fits around the main live feed measuring the overall amps on the supply when it reaches the desired amperage that you set it at you then control the priority and non priority circuits max single phase supply here is 60A clever way of controlling everything
Hi - Mr. Savery did. It's a popular product for electricians that are aware of the benefits. Get in contact if you need any further info - conor@garo.co.uk
Am looking for a 3 way. With 1st in 1st to get shower. But with indicator for others in house hold. Such as indicator light on the pull down so you look in an see a shower else were is in use. Or is the 3 way one just on for the 1st and just wont work for 2nd or 3rd person. So what if master bed room Dad is in the shower kid get us an switches 2nd shower on or try's to also mum goes in to down stars bath room an switches that on. So am asking shower one is in use. Shower 2 an 3 are switched on what will happen when shower one is then switched off. Who gets power for there morning or birthday wash. Am thinking if others know a shower is in use with indicator on there pull down.
We believe the 3 way version - it’s first come first served -so any shower will operate of non of the others are in use. If you had a neon on the local shower isolator these would all illuminate when power is available.
Morning E.W. Electrics - It is one option. Have you checked the GARO EV charging range? We have DLM integrated with all the charge points that we manufacture. Drop me a line if you would like to discuss further conor@garo.co.uk
I grew up in a house that had one 3-phase supply for the private home, my mom's grocery, and the warehouse of my dad's veg&fruit wholesale business. As you might expect, the large refrigerators in the warehouse, and the refrigerators and freezers in the store often had the tendency to run at the same time, which was no problem until my mom decided to throw a load of white laundry in and preheat the oven. A higher amperage supply wasn't possible, so however a priority setup might have caused some swearing from my technically challenged mother, it would have learned her to turn on the washing machine after supper instead of complaining multiple times a week about the electrics while my dad was swearing and looking for the main breaker in the dark basement again.
So many possibilities especailly with the Non-Priority / first come, first served configuration available. Going to become very interesting as our electrical demands keep increasing.
Hi, tiwoody - I couldn't have said it better. I'm sure you already have a few applications in mind. Get in contact if you need any further info - conor@garo.co.uk
Brilliant kit. Clever arrangement! Haven't used Garo gear yet, neither have I had to deal with any priority circuitry issues on site. Likely to become a popular thing on site as consumer usage in properties increases in the modern world. I do a lot of council housing work minor works, the occasional EICR and some works that warrant Electrical installation Certificates, along with some commercial work in plant rooms, tank rooms etc. Great video and channel. Good to know this kind of equipment is out there in the market.
So did I hear this right? If the kid has a shower they can be interrupted either by parents or a timer? That can't be right surely coz they could be covered in soap and the supply goes off for them no🤔?
Hi Steve - here is the functionality of the boards; Non-Priority Shower Board (GM8-NPS & GM14-3NPS): Restricts power to one appliance respectively at a time. Whichever appliance is using >1.5kW first remains on. The power to the other appliance will be switched off until such time as the appliance in use is turned off. No appliance has priority of use. Application - 2 x 9kW showers in a domestic home. Whatever shower turns on first gains priority and the second shower can not be turned on until the other shower has turned off. Note - the timing option is usually utilised by individuals that would like to restrict shower periods to save on energy bills and to restrict periods of heavy load. Priority Shower Board (GM6-PS): This unit allows one designated appliance (A) (the master) to be given priority of use over the second appliance (B). Whenever appliance (A) is using >1.5kW it will automatically cut the power supply to appliance (B), even if appliance (B) is being used at that time. Application - Domestic Dwelling with 9kW shower and 7kW EV point. The EV point would be wired as a non priority device and the shower as priority. When the user connects the EV point it will commence a charge, as the user then turns the shower on it will turn the EV point off until the shower is finished. If you want any further info don't hesitate to drop me a line - conor@garo.co.uk
Hi Conor sounds a brilliant piece of kit (the non priority board) Does it come pre loaded or do you have to spec on what you require? I would’ve loved this when I completed a multi occupation house but I told the client I could only fit 1 electric shower🙄 I’ll keep an eye out😊
Great video Gary , these boards will be great especially after 2025 when no new build houses will have gas boilers and all water heatering within the property will be electric increasing demand on the incoming supply .
Hi Richard - This will become essential. If you want to suggest a few applications and we can let you know if it's possible. Get in contact if you need any further info - conor@garo.co.uk
Hi Alex - Although the product has been on the market many years, it is great to hear it described as a "game changer". Get in contact if you need any further info - conor@garo.co.uk
Hi Dave - The RCBO within the unit is designed to handle the full load. I would be happy to discuss further and explain our testing procedures in more detail via phone or e-mail. My e-mail address is conor@garo.co.uk - I'm looking forward to hearing from you.
SO useful! I'm designing a system for a houseboat and tech like this makes it possible to power the whole boat with just the standard 32A commando connector. That means we can do space and water heating as well as cooking all electrically and do away with fossil fuels entirely!
Hi Gareth - This is one basic solution to help control EVs when charging. We also manufacture a full range of EV charging points and all of the units have Dynamic Load Management (DLM) building into the points. DLM and smart charging networks will ultimately be part of all our homes and businesses, this will be part of the plan to reduce the load of the grid. Along with battery and solar technology. Get in contact if you need any further info - conor@garo.co.uk
@@con85c DLM....I will look into that. Integrating smart technology, could users control and change what they prioritise as the primary supplies/loads. It would be a shame if it was set and not adjustable without a qualified electrician.
@@gazdkw82 DLM will vary the supply to the charge point, based on various factors. This is a dynamic system. For example the main fuse, the number of charge points in the cluster, etc. Send me an e-mail and I will send you through some more detailed info on DLM with Garo EV points.
See u been on the bong again gary ,why why why we are men !!! Who once upon a time had to think for ourselves .... Swipe right if u want instant gratification... Want a generation Why do u invite every numpty to the party ??? U not a bad man gary i know that ???
Hi Lee - We have the board available in a Non-Priority configuration. Whatever unit is energised first will gain the priority. Get in contact if you need any further info - conor@garo.co.uk
Hi Kevin - by your comment, it feels like you have a few jobs that this could be used in. Get in contact if you need any further info - conor@garo.co.uk
Is Garo the only company making current sensing din relay? If a customer has a board, with enough spare ways, could I check the manufacture of the board to see if they have a current sensing relay and contactor to fit into the existing board?
So how about doing this on the oven and the heating? Taking into account to diversity etc, would it be reasonable to put an oven circuit as a priority and the 12kW heating as the second circuit on here?
@@efixx have you had any feedback on these boards? I have found them a nightmare for any spare parts. I did a FuseBox with a Garo Shower Priority side by side. Its incredible what a difference good design makes. My FuseBox looked immaculate (#instagramable) but the Garo looked a complete mess. Why have the earth and neutral bars counting in opposite directions? Crazy.
Hi Josh - Great to hear more positivity regarding this board. DLM in our EVSE will be of major interest to you. Drop me a line - conor@garo.co.uk and I can explain the benefits vs using the Priority boards. 👍🏻
Clever bit of kit 💡 how many people do you think will plug in there ev and jump in the shower whilst waiting for it to charge to realise it disconnected and think there is a fault with the charger
Hi - It is a great unit. When the shower disconnects the EV point will reconnect allowing the EV to continue with a charge. Some charge points will not have load management as a function/feature, therefore this will be a perfect solution for those EV points that do not have this feature. Ideally, you would purchase an EV point with Dynamic Load Management (DLM), this feature is built into all Garo EV points. Drop me an e-mail if you would like any further info on our range - conor@garo.co.uk
Hi George - The guys at eFixx away produce great content! Great to see that you enjoyed the video. Get in contact if you need any further info - conor@garo.co.uk
Hi Kevrus - the board is designed to work without the user having to "think". The cost of this unit is cost-effective and as Gaz mentioned it comes with a 5-year warranty! Send me a mail if you would like to find out more info - conor@garo.co.uk
Possibly a solution for showers , a rudimentary interlock not so sure about vehicle chargers & cutting the power off in a backwards manor essentialy turning the breaker off multiple times. Domestic electrics is increasingly becoming more electronic along with everything else in our world.
I fitted many Garo Priority boards in 2006/7 and never had any complaints! They are hassle free! They’ve got smaller enclosures now which will keep those fussy customers happy.
I have a question! Why in the bathroom you can have electric shower in the zone 1 and socket is not allowed to be in safe place with waterproof cover ? And in the kitchen the sockets have to be 30cm min far from the water sink?
As for the product could be useful, although as for electric showers have never liked them, I would definitely never fit one in my house, and I always advise anyone not to have one.
What a silly idea. Gaz Your having a shower Vienna gets up for school and needs to jump in the shower , hang on a mo she can’t as she has to wait for you to finish your ablutions , so know she is late for school and your son is even later because he has to wait for you or Vienna to finish your ablutions , sorry not a good setup. I know I have been in that situation . Dad hurry up son Vienna hurry up mum tell dad to hurry up 🤣great video Gaz as always ❤️⚡️ Just watched the video again till the end and Gaz you did mention the scenario I am talking about 👍 and as for the EV scenario I think it may be an oppsion ? I still see a bit of a problem ? You get home from work you put your car on charge but hang on a mo the wife is in the shower Getting ready for a night out with the girls car not charging but when it does switch over fine till you get up in the morning and find the car is not changed your now late for work because you have to wait an extra half hour for the car to charge
This is a life lesson for Vienna. She learns to get up in time or smell. As for the night out. You will only ever have to tell your wife once that she cannot go out because your car is charging but its a life decision you should weigh up very carefully
Could be used to control infra red heating in a conservatorty so that you don't leave it on unnecisarily. Maybe connected to master bedroom lighting. But the IR heating would have to be soft switched so that it doesnt come on again when you turn out the lights.
I knew I'd watched your video on this couldn't remember when. Now need this as I've got a Tesla charger + Electric shower needed to be added on a site, I should be able to get hold of the relevant components to do this with either Hager or Contactum now I've watched this again. Would of used the Garo unit but the board needs changing so I'd rather keep it all in one consumer unit if possible. Strangely have done this for commercial 3 phase but it's not really something I've needed before for domestic.
We’ve also thought about this - we can’t find an equivalent to the current relay Garo use. You can get current relays from e.g RS but the relay is nearly the same price as a complete Garo board - then you have to add in the contractors etc.
@@efixx I will likely end up using something other than Garo, yes the cost is competitive but if there's not enough local stockists (around here there is none) you're limited to the internet for getting spares/replacements. That would be fine if the customer in question had a ICE as a second vehicle but with an EV as the sole vehicle and a non standard stock product supplying the circuit the down time could counter the initial saving.
Does anybody know can you use this system with a tank fed shower and water mains fed electric shower, or do the shower units have to be both the same, like 2 tank fed showers together or 2 water mains fed showers together?
The water supply shouldn’t cause any issues - in fact could help the issue - two showers running on main water at the same time causes pressure to drop.
