Why would you? I hear you ask. Well I wanted an easily portable way to use a web cam to capture some HD footage to stack in Registax for some Astrophotography. Like you do... Quick and easy improv after my laptop gave out on me...
I was searching for a method of connecting a USB webcam to my Samsung laptop and came across this post and realise I need for the same purpose you did....so I could take pictures of planets etc without having to port a great laptop around. Also, the cameras seem to be of low pixels and I find the webcams to be better quality - pixel wise anyway. I also found a way of adapting a Microsoft LifeCam to for this use and hoped I could connect it to my android tablet.....not too sure if that will work just, the hunt continues but your vide has given me hope!
Tanks for this video. instead of hauling my laptop up and forth to my dartboard to play online, i can now use my tablet on a fixed location to stream my dartgames. Thumbs up.
Is ot possible to use this for the facecam when using a screen recording app? I want to change the facecam that my device uses because my hand pretty much covers it when Im playing and recording
Hey man I wanted to use this exactly for astrophotography a I can’t lug around my laptop everywhere.I’m planning of buying a Logitech c270 as my Astro webcam but can’t find any information on weather it will work with android.Do you have any idea?Great video really informative.
Hi Mark, Thanks for the video. I am looking for a way to record a video WITHOUT the image being mirrored the way the front facing camera is on my new Galaxy Tab S2. Will attaching an external camera stop the mirroring? Thanks for the tutorial.
I must admit I don't know what you mean by "mirrored the way the front facing camera is on my new Galaxy Tab S2" Do you mean you want to use tablet as a monitor and have the camera pointing in a different direction?
When videoing to Facebook live (with front facing camera, selfie style) everything is backwards. Words on my shirt are backwards, the book titles I hold up to discuss are backwards. Will using an EXTERNAL camera make a difference here.
Uninstalled Photofi. installed photofi live. Used a connector to attach my external camera to my tablet, and went live on facebook with it and I was just FINE! Whoowhoooo! Thanks again for your video tute, it lead me in the right direction.
Since it is connected directly via usb cable , there will be no latency (should be less than 200ms) until unless the tab cpu/ memory is low config or high usage by other background apps.
Hi, great video - very useful. Could I ask your advice please - I have a reverse cam fitted but want to connect the RCA leads into my new micro usb dash cam. Is there an adapter lead to convert the 12v RCA leads to a 5v micro usb? Many thanks, Will.
Subscribed and waiting on the next video. If this works on skype/Gruveo calls I can use it to assist my vendors with repairs in the field. Thanks for posting this Mark!
Hi Chloe. I can't vouch for all webcam's but mine had one attached. You will need an "On The Go" adapter/cable to attach the USB cable to the tablet, but they're quite inexpensive. I have no experience with the RCA tablet so don't feel I can state it will work...
HIi bro... I want to connect my rear cam having 5pin or 2.5mm pin ...... so how to connect 5 pin or 2.5 mm car cam pin to Android tab....? Which accessories is needed for that.........?
Can external camera be used for video calling from mobile phone because the phone's front camera is not good and video images sent are'nt good....? Please post a video is possible....
what is USB OTG Capability. When I try this with either my tablet or my phone it says "Your device does not support USB OTG application will exit now."
Does anybody know which bit of code (fotoaparat... Maybe?) could be changed In an app to access the USB camera by default? I asked because I have an app that defaults to the rear facing camera on my Android, but I need to have it open the USB camera without a secondary app functioning as the middleman
Ultimo dragon Hi. Thanks for reaching out, got to: Settings > Device Connection > USB Connectivity > Detect USB Device then re-start which ever camera app you're trying to use...
Hi Mark - what app/software did you use to capture your android device screen in this video? (at the 0:54 seconds mark). I"m looking to make instructional videos like this one, but can't find a program that can record my laptop/tablet screen, while I narrate the instructions. (does this make sense? I am so tongue-tied tonight!!) Thanks for the above video, it's given me good ideas on how to film my fitness classes for assessment. :)
GFI Tech Support Hi. With the Sony tablet if I press and hold the power button (as if turning off) along with the "power off" and "Restart" options I also have a "Take Screenshot" and "Record Screen" options. I think this is common to newer version of android. I used the "Record Screen" option to record the screen. The one issue I did have is that I found that the frame rate for video recorded on the tablet and the frame rate of the video I used on the other camera (in this case a Sony Action Cam) were different and when I tried to overlay the voice I recorded on the action cam with the actions of those events recorded on the screen they fell out of synch. My bad really. Might be worth mnaking sure they're both recording in the same frame rate etc to avoid this niggle. Hope this helps..
Bro, your video helped me alot, but I face a problem. When I went into zoom I can show my copy through web cam. Because when we go to other application while zoom metting than our camera turns off. So plaese make a video to solve this problem
Thanks for the answer, Yes, the usb camera works fine on the app and tablet for recording. But if i'm on a website where a webcam is needed (no im not dirty, haha i am a dartsplayer) i need to select a webcam to use but i can only choose between my front or back camera from my tablet and not the external usb camera. So, im not sure wich settings or configuration i need to let my usb camera work on the website or how i can manage to get the usb camera hit priority over the internal camera. (same with facebook messenger or skype. It selects the internal camera and cant choose for the usb webcam)
I am struggling with that. Bought a Android compatible webcam but it doesn’t detect it when using video calling apps such as jitsi or ms teams. Can anybody help how to set this up?
Hi this is JRD008here! I have a NexImage Solar System Imaged by Celestron, I was wondering if you knew of a way I could hook it up to my Amazon Fire Tablet 7th Generation for taking astronomy pictures? Also do you know of any usb cameras that would work for taking astronomy pictures on a fire tablet? Please write me back talk later JRD008!
If it didn't work for Skype was it because it wouldn't record Audio? I'm wanting a way to record video for youtube and facebook live without the image being mirrored.
Skype or for that matter any chat application cannot work with externally attached cameras. All the chat apps are programmed to work with in-built front or rear facing cameras only. That's why you need special apps like these which access the USB stack on Android.
Michael Reigart Jr. Hi. It depends what app you want to use. I don't think FB will stream directly from an external camera but there some apps like "CameraFi Live" that should.
Hi Mark I have a logitech c310 HD 720 webcam and a T7 android tablet 8cores ,4Gb ram ,64 gb room and Ican not make work my webcam in my tablet please can you help me??? idownload many software but none work
Hi Alejandro. I have a Sony Z4 tablet and a Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920 which I connect with a USB "On The Go" adaptor cable. I used the webeecam software available (free trial) on Google play store. The possible options for not working are (though I'm no expert) 1) The camera isn't compatible with the software (I believe there's a list on the webeecam website) 2) The USB cable is damaged. 3) The On The Go adaptor is damaged or incompatible somehow. 4) The sub socket on the tablet is damaged (the pretty easy to test) 5) The software is incompatible with the tablet. 6) On the tablet go to Settings > Device Connection > USB connectivity > Detect USB device (with camera plugged in) 7) When webeecam opens you get an authorise device use confirmation pop up window thing and you may have to do this each time despite the little tick box asking to set as default. Hope that helps and good luck. Technology, what a pain in the ass when it doesn't work...
Hello thank you very much for answering, all artifacts are new in fact I have several OTG cables but every time I try with some software I always get this: the device has not uvc driver , basically the device does not have the driver for UVC, I checked my camera in the list of compatible device and is supported, but I don't know how insert the driver uvc on my tablet, I have it installed in my car and want to put a camera on the back can help me please?
Well this sucks.. I have the S9 Ultra and that app is not compatible.. Need an app that will work with the S 9 Ultra and a Sionyx Nightwave camera. Sionyx has an app but it only works through Wifi and the signal is a bit grainy so I need to go straight to the Tab via USB C
Logan - You can look for "Micro USB OTG adapter for android" on Amazon or similar sites. I had bad experiences with very cheap ones, they stop working after sometime. One end of this adapter will connect to your phone port, the other end will connect to the camera cable. If the camera cable is going to be too long, please use a powered hub. The reason is the camera with lengthy cable will try to draw too much power from the phone/tablet. In some cases, even if the camera cable is of standard length the camera by itself may try to draw too much power from the phone/tablet and hence does not work. One more thing you will need to check is if your phone/tablet has OTG support. Many manufacturers do not mention it in their spec, but do support OTG. You can search for "OTG checker" or similar app on play store install and check it yourself. Hope this helps.
Capitán Obvious i clearly now what android is based on. im myself an android app developer. my concern was to use it on my non rooted tab. i tried many webcams but didn't work. i think u had an extra dose of shit that made u respond like a jerk
