Malo always with the positive vibes. I hardly ever record two tracks the same way. I'll mix the best I can as I go but I'm just running with a vibe man. Most important thing is just to have fun. It's art, mistakes make it your own.

Man I love how you broke down the process of mixing at the end you make some very valid points when it comes to mixing I use to drive myself rampant trying to perfect my mixes I had to learn the hard way that no mix will ever be perfect and all mixes aren’t created equal at some point you just have to be satisfied with your work and put it out . Best combo. I just did a 10min beat tape on my channel using this setup but I tracked out 5 of my fav current beats into Ableton. Mixed down to one long track, loaded that track onto Pad 1 on the SP. Tapped it, and performed all my effects using the SP. Turned out nice.

Great video, Malo. 👍 The MPC Live 2 is up a level with the SP404 though because you can loop out to the SP and back into the Live 2, that means you can then record/resample anything from either device. Also, it would be amazing if the SP404 could record in sync from the MPC, so you record a 2 bar loop monitoring by Ext Source, it gets to the end of the 2 bars and auto switches to the SP404 pad for playback. A man can dream. 😂

Thanks, got a good idea or two from this for mixing my next project, on these same two devices. I really wish they would fix the bug so my mixer would work without cracking and popping but this is a good work around.

What if you go SP outs to MPC ins? You can resample on the MPC and record to your DAW using the MPC‘s USB MIDI/Audio out. Stems/Tracks are separated and can be recorded in 1, maybe 2 steps.

Always love your videos my man! I do have a question. It seems that the input signal is low on the SP. I have even got the setting input on 127. Is it normal to be quiet? Once I record into the 404 it seems fine but while playing it live through the 404 it seems quiet. Is that why your volume knob looks all the way up? Thanks so much!

killing it as usual, one question: do you find that only tracking a stereo mix into your DAW limits your capability as far as mixing goes? i feel like i want to track every single thing so i can tweak later which brought me to using controller mode to track so i can get 32 channels instead of just a stereo mix, or the 6 out the back of my live 2. Am i just over complicating this?

Does the sp404 MK2 suffer from volume swells while using fx with external on? On my sp404a when I switch between fx and playing through the external in I get volume swells depending on the fx. But if I put my song as a wav and put it to a bad like playing a sample then I don't get as bad volume swells

Quick question - I’ve been trying to go dawless recently using my MPC and soon to be 404. I currently have my monitors connected to the mpc outs, no interface required. When I eventually want to record my live jams that I’ve done with the 404 into a DAW, is there anyway to do this without reverting my setup to the classic gear into interface into computer out to monitors? Basically I want to avoid having to involve my computer until it’s time to record, but am not sure if there’s a quick way to do that without having to unplug the monitors from my MPC and re route everything through the interface, every time.

Hi Malo i am using a MPC Live and Yamaha DTX M12 . I want to act my Yamaha DTX M12 as a Midi controller for start stop a sequence in MPC. I give midi command start and stop in separate pads in my Yamaha M12 stop command is working perfectly ok but unfortunately the start is not working 😢 plz

Note: you cannot record/stream directly to/from the SP‘s SD card. You always have to export/import from/to patterns/projects on the SP. Unfortunately, file management is really a PITA on the SP (SP Software, too).

Malo can you dispel something for me and S/O Me on the next video? I got an advanced producer Question! I’m a Dawless guy but I do happen to use the MPC One! In standalone and I have Air Flavor Pro Most say that’s a replacement for The SP And learning it’s workflow, is there any truth to this?

Hey brother, thank you so much for taking the time and dropping by with this amazing question. The answer is yes, and no. Depending on what you’re trying to do. I feel when it comes to getting a certain sound or texture to your overall mix AFP could definitely replace the 404, but when it comes down to ridding effects performing to the beat your playing back, nothing comes close to the 404.. I will be making a video to this question shortly and again, thank you so much for taking the time to ask this. I hope this clarifies a bit more, but I will also go in depth in a full video.
