In this Space Engineers experiments video we travel to the moon from the earth-like planet by train! Yes I built a train track connecting the earth to the moon to see if the game could cope with the space train as it changes from planet to space and how the bullet train behaves when going up curves!

I 100% understand Turing off block destruction but it would have been satisfying to see the whole train just crush into a disc when it hit the moon. Good idea though! 👌

1:15 if you click on load game then select the game there will be a backups option and you can see the last 5 by default

As an idea for the station on the moon: just have a station INSIDE the moon. So you don’t have to worry about curving the track. Just dig an hole that the train slides into, taking it to an underground station.

I did something similar once, but I used Meglev rail mod. Makes the transition between grids pretty smooth.

If you did manage to but that track in real life, ignoring the other factors like the stresses on such a track, it would be moving along the surface of the moon at the angular velocity of the earths rotation, which I find quite funny. :)

I always wanted to make a space elevator in this game. Though i wanna do it in survival. Basically a way to get materials planet side to space without needing to worry about ferrying them up with a ship.

It would be cool if this could be done in real life, but when you think about it, it couldn't, because the moon is always in a different spot above earth.

Actually, this is only a slight modification on a very real concept that may become a very real structure IRL once we've learned how to mass-produce some better materials for tension. It's called a space elevator, and and the most easiest variation on this concept would be having the hypothetical super-rope planted in the moon with the earth side untethered. We likely already have everything we need to make this, it's just that there's no easy way to make enough in any reasonable amount of time yet.

@@Shauntungosaurus Having a connection to the Moon would be impossible with a line. The Moon does move around the Earth. You have the concept close in that we would have a "rope" extending into space. But there would need to be an object in geosynchronous orbit so it stays in the same point and it is attached to a large countersink to help balance the system. We currently have no material that could withstand that sort of build. Maybe Graphene and Nano-tubes but those are still a little off from being in full production. Graphene is the strongest known material but it's difficult and expensive to make in gravity.

Guys, anchoring to a satellite is still going to wrap up the Earth because the satellite will be orbiting insanely fast compared to the moon unless it's in an orbit that is near the moon's altitude or sitting at L1. Unfortunately, orbital mechanics is a little more complicated and R.J. Lucier is correct.

if i'm not wrong the general scale of SE its around 1\106 , earthlike its 1\106 of the actual earth ; space its way too big atm for a complex program to run "smootly"

I’ve tried this a few times in earth and the moon. After quite a while the pistons flex so much as they extend they either snap or keep destroying the drills. Beneath a certain depth, which is easier to reach on the moon, the terrain collisions stop working and you just go straight through the terrain

That's cool, would've been better if you had better aim. Saw someone else build a bridge to the moon and used an old simple tool of galileo's to target the moon and it worked really well to build a straight line.

First you have to slow down the rotation speed of the earth. After that you have to change the orbit of the moon, so that it becomes completely circular. Are you serious about that?

I believe his standard top speed mod completely removes the maximum speed. As previously mentioned, wheels cause havoc at such speeds.
