My 2 cents, for the people that do not have an IP explorer you can set you ethernet device on your pc to obtain an IP automatically, minute 3:06 on video, then from the command prompt "cmd " you can type " ipconfig " and press the enter key on keyboard. The ip of the device, in this case the PLC will be listed along with its subnet mask, you can then do a ping from the same screen and confirm that you do have communication with the plc as in minute 8:20 of the video.
@TimWilborne
@TimWilborne 2 года назад
That will get you close but no cigar. The IP address listed will still be your PC's IP address that it randomly assigned in the 169.254 range, not the PLCs.

Hi Tim, Is there a way for a client to use internal registers assigned by a program which is password protected and (connected to a micro850 via etherenet) to be able to toggle these as a way of another method of control without visually being in the program?
@TimWilborne
@TimWilborne 7 месяцев назад
Same as the previous question, those would allow you to change tag values outside of the PLC

Good day Tim I have configured my drivers as an Ethernet Device, I have set my connection path to the correct Simulator IP after turning on the Micro800 Simulator. But then nothing happens the PC froze each time. What could the fault be?

Probably time to call Rockwell Support.

Yes, as long as the IPs are configured on the same network then you are good to go.

Is there a way to use wireshark or another tool to get the PLC's IP address if I know its MAC address without having use the IP explorer as I don't have one.
@TimWilborne
@TimWilborne 10 месяцев назад
If the PC is already communicating with the PLC then Wireshark may work, but you'll probably be in a chicken or egg scenario since chances are you can't communicate...hence why you are trying to figure out the IP address.
@danieltaki9153
@danieltaki9153 10 месяцев назад
@@TimWilborne Yea exactly the wireshark data capture shows a broadcast message called Ethernet II, Src: Rockwell_d8:e6:65 (5c:88:16:d8:e6:65), Dst: Broadcast (ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff) with a sender IP address of 0.0.0.0, which I guess means it hasn't been assigned yet by the network?
@TimWilborne
@TimWilborne 10 месяцев назад
No, that means Wireshark can't discover it but not that it doesn't have an IP.
@danieltaki9153
@danieltaki9153 10 месяцев назад
@@TimWilborne I purchased the IP Explorer from your site! I think I'm starting to wrap my head around this though. The initial ARP request is the PLC broadcasting the IP address it wants to assign itself to ensure its a unique address. When no devices reply then does a ARP announcement, assigning itself its target IP address. Which was my static IP address that my PLC had. I also made the mistake of then downloading DHCP ethernet configuration, so now my subnet mask on the PLC is different than my PC. Is there a way to change the DHCP subnet range that the PLC assigns itself right now its always a number like 169.254.x.x but my router assigns in the range of 192.168.0.1/24. Phew lol getting close to figuring it out
@TimWilborne
@TimWilborne 10 месяцев назад
Ah, I didn't catch that you downloaded a DHCP configuration. It still wouldn't be 0.0.0.0...here is a video to help you out. If your PLC has a serial port, you could use it to change the IP address or wait for the SIM-IPE :) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EREXfbB32mI.html

I don't know my plc's ip address but I know my laptops ip address. Can I ping the plc to be able to work with my laptop's ip address? I don't have a ip address reader and none of us have ever messed with this plc.
@TimWilborne
@TimWilborne 4 года назад
You'll need to know the PLCs IP address to connect to it. Which PLC is it? If it has a serial port then you can connect over it over than and find out it's IP address.

Hello Tim, thanks for all the videos. First time playing with PLC. No training. And I have a custom setup running at my dads work off at micro 820. I have a issue with the workbench not finding my hmi screen anymore. And I’m trying to download a new screen. I am able to ping the screen. But When I configure the drivers. I am not able to see it anymore. Can I also use the Ethernet option where you type the IP address in to make it look for it in workbench like you did for the PLC? I feel like did something and it blocking it self now!
@TimWilborne
@TimWilborne 3 года назад
Your question got cut off but check your network configuration including subnet. Are you using the Ethernet/IP driver? If so, try using the Ethernet devices driver and see if it works.
@djm7245

@@TimWilborne unfortunately nothing worked. When I used just Ethernet. Work bench found it that way. But instead of showing the screen next to the IP address it was a yellow question mark. Still would not load my screen. Had to go the SD card route. The plc and hmi seem to work together though. I like to send you my video of my custom setup.
