I found this video that described exactly what I needed to fix my home network issues. I ordered the TP-WR841N router only to find that the manufacturer has removed the WDS bridging option in hardware version 14. Now I am back to the hunt for a router that will support WDS.

Have a look on eBay for a used older one. Just make sure you verify with the seller that the router is 100% functional and that it's the version you want. That way if it's not you can have eBay give you a refund through their guarantee. Make sure you take the shipping costs into account when purchasing as well. Glad to hear about your positive results. Comments like this make my DAY! 😁️ I'm glad to know I could help you and that you got value from my work here. Thank you for watching, commenting and the very kind words. I appreciate it greatly. All the best.👍😀

Honestly, I must have watched about 10 other vids and none worked. Not one other mentioned the crucial fact of the two routers needing to be on the same (don't know the correct name) 'third part' of the IP address eg. 192.168.x.1 (both needed to be have x as the same number). This was crucial yet none of the others made this clear. Well done mate, brilliantly clear tutorial.

Thank you so much for this information, Richard! It was very helpful. I had trouble in begining of my router setup. Yes, very important with no ip address conflict. Also important to set both options in wireless security PSK2 to automatic.

I couldn't get this to work until I saw your comment about setting security to automatic. Why does setting the security to automatic make this work? Is this setting safe?

Thank you for making this video. A little longer content ahead.... Although, I couldn't connect the 2 routers using the WDS bridge setting (may be my router's problem) but, I could connect them using the "Universal Repeater" option. Since, the basic method for extending the Wireless signals Range via the WDS bridging & the Universal Repeater; seems to be the same, hence your this video helped me alot. Moreover, I searched on RU-vid using phrases "How to...." But RU-vid surprised me with your video resulting "How & Why to do.... & How & Why not to do....". That really helped me here. Keep up the spirit, thanks again for taking out the time off your schedule & making such an explanatory video. I just had a small doubt, in an another video of yours, you suggested that 2 wireless devices shouldn't interfere. Hence we keep the channels different e.g. Channel 1, 6 or 11. Here comes the question... Won't these 2 wireless devices, if connected using WDS bridging, their signals be interefering? Don't we need to mention different channels for them, if those are mutually connected using WDS bridging? My same doubt applies on Universal repeater mode too, if you could share an answer, that'd really really wonderful. Another short question...(even may be silly one) In your another video, suggested only 3 channels (channel 1,6 & 11) for home network optimization (throughout connecting multiple routers together), what if we've an another 4th router in the picture, which channel would we be selecting?

@@richardlloydusa I did check for updates. None. Sometime back I had created an AP based on your video. Can I create a repeater for AP (instead of host router) as it could be simpler for me. Thanks Richard. I reallyenjoy your videos. I have a fairly unreliable fiber ISP in Thailand with a ZyXEL all-in-one fiber modem/router/wireless/4 port switch with a Cisco SPA-112 2 port VoIP phone adapter bridged to a LAN port. I purchased a dual WAN Asus BRT-AC828 router featuring some USB ports which can use a a SIM dongle or a phone tether in place of one of the WAN's. My intention would be to use the failover/failback options on the Asus router to help ensure 24/7 internet thus VoIP phone lines working for our business. ISP's tech can hardly get their own equipment setup properly so I am looking for suggestions on how to setup the two routers this way. I'd be happy to pay for the help and grab all the screen shots or video needed for you to make a tutorial afterward. If you are interested, please advise a way to communicate the details out of the public domain. Thanks again for your videos and efforts to advise those of us with less experience in home networking. -JD

Hi Richard, thank you for having such a helpful video! It really helped me to configure my WR841N router as the secondary router and it worked perfectly! However, I am not able to configure my band new Archer C6 in the same way that it should be. I couldn't find a way to enable the WDS function within the router setup. Could it be a problem of the router's firmware? Please suggest me what I can do in order to set it up? Thanks in advance!

Thanks for describing everything so thoroughly, great work. The problem I am facing is that when I restart the main router, the secondary router doesn't work anymore, it says unidentified network, then I have to do the WDS set up again. Can you help?

Hi Richard, I successfully followed your previous video on how to connect 2 routers via a lan cable and am now thinking of following this video and connecting my second router wirelessly. Just wondered if you have any thoughts on whether it is worth doing this. My main router connected to the modem where the fibre broadband comes into the house, provided by my internet provider, is a Huawei F2000 and the router I connected to it is a tp-link AC1900 Wireless. Do you think I should replace the Huawei with a better router? I am not particuarly tech savvy but have found your videos engaging and extremely well presented, thanks and keep up the good work.

Richard, I watched your informative video on connecting two WIFI routers.I currently have two each Centurylink routers one is ZYXEL C3000ZS and the main router is ZYXEL C2100T. Am I able to follow your instructions on this video to do the same to configure the ZYXEL C3000ZS?

Hi, Richard. Great video! Thank you for putting that together. Is there a limit as to what the distance can be to effectively connect two routers (wirelessly)? My cable modem is downstairs in the Sun Room and my office is on the second floor on the opposite side of the house. I have used TP-Link Extenders (plugged to the Electrical Outlet and then connecting by RJ-45 cable). I would implement this to improve the signal. In the sun room, my download is 70 Mbps. Up in my office, it is 10-15 Mbps. Streaming video is fine but just wanted to get better throughput.
