English reformer, John Wycliffe, was sanctioned by the Catholic Church, had his writings banned by the Archbishop of Canterbury, then the pope ordered his body dug up, burnt, and the ashes scattered in the river. But, his ideas and writings survived in Europe and went on to influence the Methodists, returning to England centuries later.
