connex 3300 setup with a lil helper! cool old radio. Came in with no receive audio and lots of other little issues. Thank you to all my supporters!! 73
There are far too few techs who can handle repair work these days. I too have several radios on the shelf that I would like repaired, one day i'll catch this guy or maybe Mike with some free time. Selling new radios is easier and quicker than repair work.
Radio Repair 101: *The Dilemma That Leads To Dementia* *Does it work, does it not. It ties your mind into a knot. *Mental and Physical interuption, lead to Mental and Physical meltdown and destruction. *Follow the directions in reverse, for the best results, not the worse? *Go by guess, go by golly. If it does not work, no one is jolly. *Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night, radio repair is more than just a monetary fright. I am SO off the key! LOL!!! 😑🦗
Nice job. I think most everyone is charging flat rates. I still have an old invoice from Mike's when I had a radio recapped tuned and aligned 3 years ago. Everything was flat rate from recap to alignment. Merry Christmas and Happy New year.
The days of 5 and 10 dollar repairs are long gone had one of those in my area for along time but he retired probably around 10 years ago sad because he was good at it but glad he could at the same time the guy I have been using is decent but doesn’t have all of the necessary equipment which limits what he can do at times most of his repairs can be from 20 to 60 dollars and if it’s going to be more he will ask if you really want it fixed because you could buy new and set up cheaper looking forward to seeing how my radio I sent in turns out
Merry Christmas Matt. Really enjoyed watching your videos this year. And watching your channel grow ..I knew it would ! 👍☺️ Hope to watch many more next year 👍. Keep safe. 73s. Wr456 UK.
Nice video I have the same radio it needs a little work but its a good one thanks for sharing you and yours have a good Christmas and new year hillbilly in the bam waving
As far as rates....a set rate for "basic" work, i.e. tune/alignment = X dollars for CB radios and X dollars for 10M/Export radios. Echo install depending on radio model, of course = X dollars. Radio repair, you have a 1 hour "minimum" bench fee of say, 50 dollars (you pick that of course) plus parts. You replace a 10 cent part and spend 20 minutes, that's $50.10. You Spend 45 minutes and replace a 20 dollar part, that $70.00. After the 1 hour mark, you drop the rate down. This is assuming (yeah I know) you get a lot of 30-60 minute jobs in. You do 5-7 small/simple repairs a day, that's $250-350 in just bench fees plus parts for say 5-7 hours of work. If you know it's going to be a 2-3 day job, you can adjust your fee to make it sensible for both of you to come out good. At the end of the day, you want to know the customer is happy and the bills are paid and the customer knows he/she is getting a quality kickass radio without going broke. We all know you're one of the few honest techs left so whatever you decide I'm sure most of us will feel it's fair, you'll always have a few that even if you did the work for free and paid for shipping yourself, you charged them too much.
I really think what you said is probably the best way to do it. A flat minimum bench fee and then go from there. It makes sense and I will be switching over to that model in the near future. Glad to have folks like yourself that take time to give me input. Wishing you a merry Christmas and happy new year.
I thought this wave of mail ins was supposed to geared towards radios that needed tuning? That's why I never contacted you. Not complaining, IJS. Good work though. I hope you don't get discouraged from the repair side. Keep up the good work. Merry Christmas!☃️
This radio is from a gentleman that contacted me months ago. It's not from the current wave of mail-ins. You are correct though the last batch of mail-ins I got were supposed to be radios in good working condition. You know how that goes though. Thanks for watching 👍
I just got this radio I need some information it has been on the bench everything in line and looks like it just came out of the box has uper n lowers high n low rf power and Echo and fm am da/eb/fc and band high and low I gave 200$ for it . I had dead key turned down to run a amp a 225 palomar with it talks great . Talks skip my antenna is a Wilson 2000 magnet mount but are these good radios and did I make a good buy
What is a ballpark estimate on a recap and alignment touch up on a superstar 360fm mkii? It's receiving end transmitting but AM mode stopped working. I use it on ssb mainly but would like it fully working again. Not all hacked up either, just old age taking a toll. Has the pb010ab board in it?
I just pick up the same radio yesterday I can hook everything up I’ve got an external speaker but when I key up with echo and top back on I cannot hear myself in the speaker
