For me it's the footwork that always amazes me with hockey players like him and other talented players, because they have the ability to create space and find holes to exploit while having the puck. As someone who comes from a football (soccer) background footwork has a similar importance for creating space and distance with the puck so I just find it really cool watching bow these guys skate effortlessly and pretty much glide while dangling the puck at fast speed. And I know for most of them they've been skating since they could probably walk since I had friends who were canadians when I was in middle school and they could skate rings around people
@@Charlie-qe6lv i mean, you can watch Looch highlights from last year - he's laying dudes the fuck out. Don't think this lil' guy is gonna be counter hitting a veteran enforcer 6" taller and about 40 pounds heavier but hey, who am i to doubt physics and literally every lucic game i've ever watched?
We will see what the future holds but it’s insane seeing the detractors already who probably have never watched a Bedard game in person nor do they understand how high level the WHL is. This guy is miles above your typical player that comes out of the W.
@@devinbrines the angle that the blade lies on the ice, the retail lie is 6, but patrick kane uses 7 for better stickhandles, and some pros use a lower lie
He has an incredibly long stick length for his height, and I believe lower end of Flex (guessing 75ish range), so it is amplifying his pull/snap release and he pulls it close and releases. Now of course that has it's disadvantages to other aspects such as accuracy on a slap shot because he has so much whip on that stick as he cranks down on those one-timers.
Some of the hate Bedard is getting is just weird lol. People come in here to comment dumb things like “wow he hit the net 3/12.. so great” or “look at him with his head down. He’s going to get a wake up call in the NHL” or “wow he already thinks he’s so good” 😂😂😂😂 where do you guys come up with this shit lol.
because his hype is weird. no player has been hyped to this extent before they ever did anything. thats why he has haters because the hype just is too much. it's reaching way too much and is about marketing and social media content creation more than anything real. Youre supposed to hype someone up when they do something, not in anticipation. It's just fucking weird. i literally saw a video of a 'highlight' of bedard just making a pass to someone. Wtf? is it really any surprise he has haters?? bedard will be a good player but the marketing will make people not like him
@@morrisalanisette9067 only losers would feel this type of way 🤷♂️. Hating on someone because he’s got hype and expectation around him is stupid lol. It’s a loser mentality to want someone to fail just because everybody else says he’s great lol.
@@avsrock1561you do realize that hitting has been a thing for around 6 years for him and he is still the best player of his age, he just got a hatty in the prospects game, give the kid a break he’s 18 years old
@@avsrock1561 hes the most humble 1st overall pick since mcdavid what are you yapping about when has he implied i think hes better than the rest, and no the avalanche are maybe good for the next 3 years
@@AJ13688 nah just pointing out facts.... also annoyed that the hawks loose both Kane and Towes and then get another star with no down time... WHAT LUCK YA'LL HAVE... see ya soon... WARNING DANGER AVALANCHE AHEAD FOR THE NEXT DECADE... enjoy that
Playing against other prospects. Seasoned NHLers are going to have a few surprises waiting. Like Marner he is small. I hope he likes the feel of the boards. Crunch time is comming.
im not a hawks fan, but don't understand why all these people are hating. If he had been picked up by the Habs i would of been ecstatic. He wasn't.... Doesn't change the fact that he is still a good player.... kids got a wicked wrist shot on joe sakic level at 18. people still out here hating.. lol
The haters going to hate. That being said, he's not going to have a hard one-timer with a 75 flex stick. Sure his release is fast on the wrist shots but that flex is going to hurt him on slapshots and one-timers. The bigger problem is he seems to have his head down a lot in his junior footage. Correct that shit or one hit and his career can end. The problem with social media and the hype train now is that so many people are told and treated like gods, they don't get the actual useful critique. People "loving the haters" in the comments need to chill. He obviously has flaws and there is nothing wrong with pointing that out. It doesn't make you a hater, it's just being real.
Agreed I've noticed his head down as well... so well see... kids got skills though... Avs well get to see him for the Avs home opener that is if he makes the team and all...lol
@@avsrock1561 i saw him play against Lethbridge Hurricanes this past season. His lateral quickness will definitely help his lack of size. He's still insanely young, if he grows even a little bit he's going to turn into a monster.
He is not really a one time shooter anyway. His best shot is the drag shot that Matthews popularized. I do agree that with you that his head is down too much though. Look at McDavid. McDavid skates at like 50 km/h and does like 30 stickhandles but still has his head up.
@@odoaceroftheneoromanempire7178 excuse me...Matthews got that shot from Hejduk... there for it's a Hejduk shot... one of the best at it might I add... 50 goal season doing it way before Matthews... CHEERS LET'S GO AVS....
@@bryancook1235 the hawks be wise to NOT put him in the NHL for at least a year or two.... but they won't... so he better learn quickly on how to keep his head up...
You clearly don't watch hockey, and just found out who Bedsy is. His shot is "literally"...(and I'm using it literally correctly, not the way 20 year olds misuse it) changing the way hockey is played. Hockey has changed Soo much in the past 10-15 years..Crosby changed the game with his edge work and quickness...McDavid took that to another level, and Incorporated all that speed while carrying the puck....Bedard took all that and threw in an insane snap shot that nobody has ever seen...
I can shoot a snapper 106, one time slapper 125 on radar, I break pucks ever skate. My parents weren't rich, otherwise I would be a star! It's who you know in this world. By the way, I'm 6'2 225. Skate like the wind and pass with the best of them
5' 9" and 170 lbs - he's about to enter the arena with the big boys. All who skate as fast, or faster. The speed of the game will change, and the available space disappears. Don't be surprised if he's another Taylor Hall or worse
He’s 5’10 and 185. Already bigger than Patrick Kane. He has very underrated skating actually and is quite fast. His shot is made for the NHL - it requires very little space as he pulls the puck towards his body. I don’t think you understand hockey too well
@@Baildog33 he's not 5'10 and 185. Look up his appearance at awards shows and who he is standing beside. Look up those people's stats. He might be 5'10" on his skates. Maybe
@@Baildog33 one other thing to you stupid comment - I'll put my 35 years in hockey against your armchair any day. Wait a few weeks - you'll see how fast Mr Bedard is shut down in the men's game. You wonder why he didn't play in the World's? Because doing so would have depreciated his draft value. Now it's time to earn it - he hasn't skated with the big boys once
He has high hockey IQ. He's dialed in to eating drinking sleeping hockey! Does he even get laid? Smart and learn more on the fly and as years go on! Praying 🙏 he has a HEALTHY CAREER
doesnt matter how good ur shot is ..if u dont get to shoot in games............... Chigago problem is that they try to pass too much to Bedard...other teams can read it...
A lot of people in these comments haven’t watched Bedard play (maybe hockey at all actually the way folks are talking) some pretty cringe takes in here
His wrist shot is really good but everything else needs work, those one time slice one timers were actually embarrassing for a #1 pick but he's super young n probably 20lbs lighter then he'll be in a year so theres time n his wrist shot more then makes up for it.
I agree he has a great shot but he’s more wrist snap shot maker slap shot not good needs improvement every he’s young lots of time to improve that’s why when people hype up everyone comparing them to other stars I hate it like they said bedard shot better then ovi or the same 😂😂😂 your joking right nobody’s shot is like ovechkins Simple not even close ovechkin debut didn’t need any improvements shit was ridiculous scored 50 goals his first season had the best shot of all time 9x rocket Richard
He looks leaps and bounds better than Matthew Knies for example. Knies was competitive with NHL top lines, but has absolute zero hands / shooting ability. Bedard tonight looked like he can probably make a pretty good impact at the NHL level. I'd imagine he will find ways to squeak goals in despite his size / skating ability.
Conor's shot is not as good as Brett Hulls was and I am sure there are plenty of guys in the NHL that can match his shot but if that's all you want to talk about and call it insane you are insane. He is a little guy, not even 200 pounds he can only shoot the puck so hard unless things have changed. His show boating will come to an end it is not Pee Wee hockey men will take offense to it and put him through the boards. Truthfully, I don't think he is going to be a standout player in the NHL. All the hype reminds me of Rico Fata that was granted special permission to play OHL but once drafted slowly drifted out of the limelight.
John Tavares, Aaron Ekblad, Connor McDavid, Sean Day and Shane Wright and now Misa have been the only players granted exceptional player status by the OHL. So you don't even have that right about Fata. Who in reality played in the show 7 years longer than you might have played on the 7th line in beer league. And that was light beer at that. And Bedard already is a standout player in the NHL 13 games into his first season. Do you even watch hockey? If you did, you'd know things have in fact changed. Talent always rises to the top.
What are you people watching? The shot did not look that great in this video. Any NHLer can shoot better than what was shown in this video. His slap shot is weak as hell
