This easy walk in the Wythop valley takes in 2 Wainwrights beginning at Wythop Wood. We start with a short but steep incline which then takes us straight toward the summit of Sale fell. The pinnacle boasts great views of the Skidded range ahead. Once we’ve taken this in we head onward and down the slope before turning towards the farm.
After reaching the road we are once again at the start point. From here we head over Wythop Beck and follow the road up towards Ling Fell.
The ascent is quite steep but there is another path to the left which can be taken.
From the top we admire the Wythop valley and get a look over to Sale Fell and the Skiddaw range. The route down is steady and straight forward.
This route is an easy afternoon stroll and a great one to pick up 2 easy wainwrights.

Hi Tony, hi Alison. Lovely little walk that, I’ve still those to do. Reminds me very much The Mell Fells walk. Park between the two and do it as a kind of figure of 8. You can even leave your butties in the car and have them at the half way point, save on the weight! 🤣 We did a wild camp last night on Grey Crag. Split the Swindale round in two! 😀 All the best mate Dave 😀⛰🥾

Hi Dave, Yes, I did the Mell Fells a couple of years back. Speaking of weight I’m just setting up for the Cumbrian Way. I’ve picked your overnight stops so fingers crossed. Going on August so time for some test runs with a heavier pack 😅. Excellent mate, I’ll look forward to seeing it. Enjoy it out there mate ⛰️😁🥾

@@trekkingwithtony Hi mate, brilliant stuff you’ll love it. I think doing it over 5 days is perfect. I’ve seen people do it in 3, but I think to be able to take it all in 5 is right. I would definitely recommend the guest house we stayed in at Keswick. It’s a nice treat and it’s right in the trail. We were going to stay in the campsite by Derwent water but we were late arriving. As it happens when we spoke to someone on the trail the day after they stayed there and they wanted £38 to pitch a tent. And the campsite at Castlerigg is way off the trail unless you are doing the mountain route. If you need any more info mate just give me a shout. 😀👍🥾⛰🏕️

@@DAoutdoors Nice one Dave, I'll pick your brains when we are out. That site is on the expensive side for sure. I just hope we get decent weather🥾🌄⛰

@@trekkingwithtony yes mate fingers crossed you get perfect walking conditions. You’ll love it mate. As you are going in august my advice would be to pre book your places at the campsites. Links are in the descriptions to my videos. 👍

Hi Tony, I could be wrong, but as a local lad I've always pronounced Wythop as With-op noy Y-thop. Incidentally I did my first wild camp on Ling fell the night of the recent Aurora borealis (and I posted a video on that :) Anyway I really appreciate your enthusiasm and the detailed directions on your videos, keep it up m8.

Hi Jeff, I’ve no doubt that you are right! My pronunciations are often creative. I’m actually banned from entering Wales due to linguistic crimes🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 😂. I’ll bet that was great mate. I’m just checking my camping gear for the Cumbrian way 🥾. I’m glad you are enjoying them. I’ll take a look at your camp 🏕️. All the best out there mate 🥾😁⛰️
