Kaiser Pass Road in California's High Sierra winds through stunning alpine scenery, leading to remote lakes, trails, and campsites. Its narrow, steep sections challenge drivers, but the breathtaking views make it worthwhile.
Kaiser Pass Road in the High Sierra of California is a rugged and scenic route that takes travelers deep into the heart of the Sierra Nevada. Winding through pine forests and granite peaks, the road offers stunning views of pristine alpine lakes and lush meadows. Starting near Huntington Lake, it climbs steadily to over 9,000 feet, leading to remote destinations such as Florence Lake, Edison Lake, and Mono Hot Springs. For outdoor enthusiasts, this road is a gateway to some of the region’s best hiking, fishing, and camping opportunities.
The road is narrow, with steep drop-offs and hairpin turns, making it a challenging drive, especially for larger vehicles. Despite its difficulties, Kaiser Pass Road attracts those seeking solitude and natural beauty. In winter, snow closes the road, making it accessible only during the warmer months. Whether you’re heading to the backcountry or simply taking in the breathtaking vistas, Kaiser Pass Road offers a unique and memorable journey through California’s High Sierra wilderness.

Thank you! I'm pretty happy that we were able to salvage what was filmed for those two videos. 😄

What a great video! I live in California. The High Sierra's has been my home away from home for many summer vacations and even a couple of winter trips. In the 70's to mid 80's I did a lot of backpacking. Back in a time when there were few people on the trails. My backpacking days are over but I own a Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk. This road looks easily doable for me. And with some campgrounds, I might add this to my bucket list. Thanks for sharing.

The alpine meadow was absolutely beautiful! And that fast driving sequence was great as well, but i know i would be pretty uncomfortable with the dropoffs, given the narrowness of the road, no room for error!!! So Glenn i'm glad you and Slim were driving and not me!!! 😮😮😮

1000 bonus points for all the work put in to making this video for all to see. I felt like I was in the passenger seat - great job. 👏 Thoroughly enjoyed the trip. One request though - if possible. Next time you’re in dark skies can you maybe capture a view of the night skies - can only imagine the amount of stars ✨ you must have seen. As for the silent footage, sorry about that - but I’m certain you and Amy will come up with some sort of short film captions or bloopers. As for the rattling key comment - didn’t bother me - part of the experience of the terrain. May I suggest try tying a sock around the bulk of the keys - maybe that can help lower or muffle? Thanks again for all that you do and for all the places you take us all to from the comfort of our couches or reclining chairs.

Oh, for sure! Getting a time lapse of the night skies is something that we've been wanting to do forever but something always seems to go awry. Might have a solution for the keys to help. We shall see how it works out. Always happy to hear from you! 😊

Evacuating quickly from a wildfire on that narrow road would be an absolute nightmare. If you go up there, do it early in the summer before you have to worry about it. Nice meadow.

I enjoy watching your videos. I'm thankful for your adventures.But one thing that distracts me is your keys jingling.
@CactusAtlas

We have heard that before. 😔 Gotta find a solution for quick removal of the other keys. Sadly the truck isn't remote start.

Another nice video. Is Slim a 4x4? If he is, is a 4x4 required for the majority of your adventures?
@CactusAtlas
@CactusAtlas 6 дней назад
Slim indeed is. There's plenty of places we've gone that don't need 4WD. We try to mention if we used it or not when filming. 👍 I'm not sure if Glenn used it on this particular trip, unfortunately.

That area Mono Hot Springs, may be pronounced as " maw-no " ? Not sure Glenn.
@CactusAtlas
@CactusAtlas 6 дней назад
Not sure either. Just making an assumption it's moh-no given it's location and proximity to Mono County, Mono Lake, etc. Never know though!

Was the ignorant mid-road driver in a Subaru? Bet he was. You want a white knuckle road to a CA campground? Mono Hot Springs in my truck camper. There are "almost" hot spring pools across the creek on the hill. Good fishing too.
@CactusAtlas
@CactusAtlas 7 дней назад
Oh gosh, didn't quite catch what the vehicle was. Not sure either of us would be comfortable driving in anything bigger than our truck. I can't even imagine it w/ a camper. 😵‍💫

@@CactusAtlas Lol. I pick on Subaru drivers. Next time you're behind someone going too slow and won't pull over for you, check out the make of the vehicle.
