In this video, I attach the 54" mower deck to the Kubota BX to mow tall, thick weeds in my steep horse field. I struggle mowing up the hills after forgetting to shift into Low speed and by having too much rear ballast.

I’m going to be cutting some grass like that with my BX 1880 but I’m opting for the 48” Rear PTO driven brush hog attachment.

Trial and error is quite the learning experience....for me its been loader operation. Until I got my BX2680, I'd never operated a loader at all. So that is a continual learning experience, and I don't use it for scooping up and hauling dirt and stuff very often so I need so much practice with that. I think a bucket level indicator would help a lot. Even with my pretty flat yard, when I use my BX to mow with, I still use low gear, no sense trying to go as fast as you can, you get a better cut quality when you go slower anyhow with these types of mowers, not to mention you don't feel like you been in a boxing ring all day afterwards. I have the 60" mid mount mower, before I remove it, I raise the deck up all the way, turn the deck wheels 90 degrees, set the cut height to 0 then lower the deck to the ground...once the deck is disconnected I simply roll it out from under the tractor and out of the way. I store my deck on a couple of old picnic table benches with a couple of 4x4's sitting on them so I can use my pallet forks to carry the deck over to its storage spot in the shed...that almost 300 pound mower deck isn't so friendly when you gotta move it around by hand LOL. I mow a pasture for a co-worker that has high grass and weeds like that...I mow it as high as possible 2-3 times a year depending on how much rain we get. Its rough due to gopher mounds and holes, the 4WD comes in handy occasionally even though its mostly flat.

Yeah, I always keep it in Low speed when performing work...unless I forget of course. 🙂
