DEAR BRITISH MUSEUM: Please please please pretty please with a cherry on top, can you guys have 1 of these made today using historical methods, and put out a video?? it would be a wonderful reference piece, and a pretty cool project for some historical fabrics expert to make.

Slight confusion - he was actually Henry I of Sicily, more commonly called the Holy Roman Emperor Henry VI. By his grave goods being "distributed to collectors", they tactfully mean shamelessly grave-robbed and sold to the highest bidder!

Interestingly, a king (a layman, though annointed and chosen for his office "by God's grace") would be entombed wearing not a crown but a mitre, not secular at all, but usually a headgear designating higher church prelates.

Norman Kings got power symbols used by Byzantine emperors (and art style too). In Byzantine Empire emperors had an important role in religious issues (this behaviour is called cesaropapism) and beacuse of this they wore a crown similar to a mitre. If you look at Martorana mosaic in which King Roger II is crowned by Christ, Roger wears a crown of that kind.

Barbara Milano this Norman-Byzantine connection was new to me. Thanks a lot for the explanation! Why do they always get these videos wrong. We don't come here to hear people talking and talking and talking. I was hoping to actually seeing the fabric being cleaned or something, anything expect having peiple talking and talking and talking

Any conservation work is very long and would appear to be very boring. Dealing with paper preservation it took me a whole day to unravel a scrunched up newspaper! That was the easy one!

Take any random museum artifact acquired before the early 1950's. If it wasn't from an archeological or anthropoligical dig, the answer is probably yes.
