Consistently Pure your Irons Using THIS Simple Rotation Drill

Have you ever worked on something in your swing and all of a sudden it throws your ball flight into disarray?
Well if you've been used to swinging with an early release and you start to release the golf club later then all of a sudden you might find yourself losing shots to the right or flipping to the left (inverse for the left handed golfer).
It's possible that you might be missing some club face rotation to get those shots straightened out and start smashing your irons consistently!

Would really like to see a video of this same nature with the driver. Cheers gentlemen and thank you.

Conceptually it’s the same thing I.e. the use of the wrists in conjunction with the use of the ground, it’s just taking place in a different space (and therefore also time) due to the ball being on a tee peg for driver. You’ll also need to play around with swing direction as ball on a tee peg takes the path further left (for RH golfers). We will do a video soon on how to adapt this for driver 👍

i have watched many/most of your vids several times!!! Cant get over the way you describe the same concept in several different ways to capture all the different learning styles of your students...i.e. in one video i may not quite understand what you are trying to get across and in another ( same concept and exercise) u explain it (or your apprentices explains it) in a completely different way that i can capture the intended message......your vids have helped this HACKER become a very proficient ball striker....And my accuracy and power is constantly improving as the cognitive improves!!!

Another excellent tutorial. This is my swing. You mentioned the challenge of not retreating to your old swing when things go bad. This is the tricky bit. Thanks again
@g-lewgolf9272
@g-lewgolf9272 10 месяцев назад
It is indeed the tricky bit. The body often wants to revert back to what it knows and is familiar with, even if what it knows is sub-optimal. Use your practice to let the body get used to new planes of motion and timing patterns. Perhaps dropping swing tempo to help you recognise the new movement/timing would be a good idea.

Man What a sweet coincidence. I just figured out the same 3 hrs ago at my practice mat but was feeling guilty of commiting some cardinal sin in golf and then I see this video just before hitting the bed and now I can go to sleep. Your explanation and the pscychology, delineating the thought process is so brilliant. Cant thank you enough. Cant wait to sneak out for a round tomorrow afternoon and prove it to myself and feeling confident already. You are the best teacher . Thanks George you are brilliant. Shanking on purpose is so hard to do and then come back to hit a great shot even if editing is involved is brilliant.

The only cardinal sin in golf is to stop exploring your movement and use of the clubs! Let us know how you get on taking this concept to the course, please. And thanks for your feedback, you may think it’s all in the edit, but believe me I can shank it like the best of ‘em!

@@g-lewgolf9272 worked like magic AW-8 irons , 7 iron onward bit of an overdraw but the best one was the 3H bullet into strong headwind 198 yds par three over water all the way and the ball stopped 15 ft over the pin . This hole approach is only right to left with tall tree lined right side of the water . On the driver I could not manage square and shut the clubface in time so kind of reverted back to my previous swing. On the 4th hole par 5 water hole dog leg right I kept the image of toe divot and had a beautiful draw , ball flying over the fountain in middle of the lake and drawing back to the corner of the dog leg. The brain map is so pwerful and clear that one can come out of the scramble the one is in . this is so innate yet new. Like meeting long lost brother from childhood. Overjoyed , forgot my niggling knee pain, probably because it tilted my pelvis back in the right orientation.

I got a good feeling for this on the range by purposely opening the club in the back swing and trying to square at impact. You can feel how much rotation you need with the club and dial it in

Great video. This power of jumping up is especially appreciated by us "older" golfers who can no longer "muscle" the ball. I am wondering rather than trying to rotate the club face on the way down - which can be challenging to get the proper amount in such a short period of time - why not just experiment with closing the clubface at address until you have the desired flight and not have to think/worry about doing in the .5 seconds we have on the downswing?
@deantonna
@deantonna Месяц назад
Exactly right..just pre set a slightly closed club face at address and achieve the same result. I do it with the driver and it works great , has turned a slice into a tight high draw ..…. mostly 😅

Yeah - good to hear about the elite players and the "non released" finishing when really it's due to their powerful turn/rotation/thrust (if I understand properly).

Focusing on your thoughts about "covering the ball, staying down" etc. your advice to utilize vertical force leads to my concern that employing this will exacerbate the tendency I have to early extend, top the ball and so on.

George this video is so good I watched it a couple more times. Quick question, I’m a right handed golf and my divots go left, does that tell me I’m swinging a little out to in or maybe the ball is too far forward or is the divot supposed to go left. Btw, my shots are fading, if this helps with answering my question. Cheers.

Got this starting with wedges. The trajectory is better. Worry with smother hook the driver
@g-lewgolf9272
@g-lewgolf9272 10 месяцев назад
That’s a legitimate worry, but remember that with driver your swing direction needs to be further right (for RH golfers) due to the ball being on a tee peg and therefore taking swing path more left. Hope that helps!

Try it! What’s the worst that could happen? Every movement we make in life requires timing. Fortunately, we’re equipped with a body that times things without us even knowing all the time! Happy practising!

To get this rotation of the club, a person must open the club face on the backswing?
@g-lewgolf9272
@g-lewgolf9272 10 месяцев назад
Yes, allow it to open during the back swing and close again through the downswing 👍

Brilliant. I've been closing the face as per your early videos but with a lack of confidence at times thinking I'm gonna hook it, even tho it really didn't. Now after your explanation about the left arm/hand counteracting the early rotation during extension through impact, I no longer have concerns about it. Never heard this explained before. thank you. Next time you're in hawaii, I'm booking a lesson or two. =)

Great work lads, Marcus you referred to Hovland, Koepka etc holding off during the hitting zone, is this how it appears, or are they infact rotating the club face as you advocate? Ive been adding the toe deep divot feel the last few days, and its completely changed my ball striking! Thank you

@g-lewgolf9272
@g-lewgolf9272 10 месяцев назад
100% of the time! Everyone is different and must find their most effective grip. I got into golf by myself so didn’t know of any interlock/overlap grips etc and the “baseball” grip is what came naturally to me.

The leading with the toe thought is gold. I haven’t even tried it yet, but I’m laying in bed thinking I can do that far easier then thinking of bow left wrist with more of a motorcycle move. Is leading with toe more rotating forearm then wrist manipulation?
@g-lewgolf9272
@g-lewgolf9272 10 месяцев назад
Do the exercise I’m doing in this vid, taking divots with what you feel would be the toe of the club (in reality, it’ll be the leading edge taking it) and spend time noticing what mechanisms your body recruits to achieve it. It’ll likely be a combo of forearms and wrists. Let us know how it goes!

Marcus or George When one is doing the simple rotation drill why is is that the heel pad of the left hand golf tears apart ? What are they doing wrong ?
@benr91377
@benr91377 10 месяцев назад
It would be good to know if you actively should be trying to turn the toe in? It feels like this veers away from the wider GRF theory that it should all happen naturally dependent on correct body motion etc. Would the equiv be like a forearm spinner in tabletennis ?
@g-lewgolf9272
@g-lewgolf9272 10 месяцев назад
Good observation, Ben and thanks for raising it. If we are making a truly free flowing action, the shaft would mostly want to rotate in this fashion, much like the racquet face rotates in a forehand topspin in tennis. So let it happen, rather than force it, but you’ll attune yourself to letting it rotate a little bit or a lot and develop a sense for everything in between. Let us know how it goes for you, please!
@benr91377
@benr91377 10 месяцев назад
@g-lewgolf9272 awesome thanks, I think I actually do it already when I apply the vertical correctly, but not something I have great awareness of so will definitely try and increase the "feel" . Cheers!
@chuckross8839
@chuckross8839 10 месяцев назад
Marcus , The Arms can only go as fast as the torso , correct ?
@g-lewgolf9272
@g-lewgolf9272 10 месяцев назад
Generally, if there is an efficient sequence of movement taking place, the arms would trail the torso for as long as possible before releasing and the arms swinging to the finish having “overtaken” the torso to get there. I wouldn’t think too much about how fast they’re moving in relation to your torso. Let it happen, don’t try to consciously drive it too much.
@nathanperry9593
@nathanperry9593 9 месяцев назад
So you’re saying that in .125 of a second I’m supposed to move up and understand how much wrist rotation I’m supposed to have. Oh and have a late release. Not complicated at all. Thanks.
@GRFGolf
@GRFGolf 9 месяцев назад
Not at all, you said that 😂 It's an exercise for exploration and feel with reaction to ball flight. It's an exercise for developing awareness. The explanation is just for rationale of why you're doing it but the simple act of doing the exercise provides the feedback loops for you to attune to and refine through movement awareness and strike/ball flight.
