Another correction, they actually did make the cars in GTA Online faster because of the SSDs on the new consoles, the old consoles hard drive wouldn't have been able to stream assets at higher speeds

4:20 uhhh that guy was almost right though. In terms of pixel count 4K is 2.25x 1440p and 1440p is 1.78x 1080p. It's not quite 2x for neither, but it's much closer than whatever math you just did.
The GTA speed thing is actually true to some extent, the map loads significantly faster on the 9th gen versions of the game and there’s a new tier of vehicles which all go ridiculously faster than cars used to. Rockstar has previously limited the top speed in GTA games based on how fast the map can load, it’s less the SSD making the cars go faster and more the SSD allows them to be able to go faster if that makes sense. I don’t know why the PC version doesn’t have these features yet though.

The quote at 2:08 has some truth to it. For example in spiderman ps4 the devs had to cap the swing speed at 30m/s because if you go faster than that on a ps4 it will not be able to load the map in fast enough to keep up. I'm guessing the same can be true for a game with a huge map like gta.

It's crazy to think when I first discovered this series, I was a middle school kid who gamed on the 360. Now I'm a fully grown adult working full time watching it on a PC I built just a couple months ago. It's been one hell of a ride
2:15 now this is actually grounded in reality. I remember watching a video a while back detailing how at some point the maximum speed for vehicles in GTA 5 was increased because the original maximum speed was limited for the PS3/Xbox 360 console generation because hard drives couldn't load the world fast enough for Rockstar to be comfortable there wouldn't be unloaded parts of the map visible occasionally when travelling at high speeds around the map. That was a few years back, but this story might be where this "urban legend" comes from

4:10 20-30W isn't enough, most PSUs can handle running at 90-100% capacity, but it isn't good for them and they also tend to get less efficient at the higher-end of their capacity, if nothing else it'll shorten their life running them so close to their rated capacity, 80% would be a better target, so in this example 450W would be right at the limit of what I would use for a 550W PSU.

4:38 Barry 1440p is 2560x1440 right? and 720p is 1280x720 right? That means 2560 has 3686400 pixels total while 720p is 921600 pixels. 3686400/4=921600 1440p has 4x the number of pixels of 720p not 2x. it is 4x the resolution like how if you had a 2x2 and a 4x4 screen 2x2 would have 1/4 the pixels of of the 4x4 screen even though you only doubled the numbers, it's because you doubled both numbers that you get 4x. So 1440p is about half of 4k because 4k is 3840×2160 or 8294400 pixels (technically 2.25x but close enough)

They are referring to total pixel count. 720p might be half of 1440p, but 720p has only a quarter of the pixel count of 1440p. Half the pixels on the horizontal axis, half on the vertical axis. That's what they meant with accounting for the axis. 1440p has about 44% of the total pixel count of 4k, which is not that far off from half. 1080p has 56.25% the total pixel count of 1440p, which is also not that far off.
1080p is 2,073,600 pixels while 1440p is 3,686,400 pixels. Going from 1080p to 1440p is a 1.77 times jump in pixels. 720p is 921,600 pixels which is a quarter of the 1440p pixels count not half. That math was very easy to do. Did you never consider that you have to multiple both dimensions to get the pixel count?
2:15 They kind of have a point here. The cars with the highest top speeds have been created and only given to the console versions of GTA V, because they got the next-gen update that PC players didn't. The old consoles struggled to load the map quick enough and the Vigilante car would actually make the map pretty much disappear. GTA on PC just doesn't really utilize the speed of SSDs on PC yet. Not a peasant but I do see what they're saying. They were able to give quicker cars on the new consoles because of the better hardware. Also, framerate does affect a car's speed in GTA. It is very slight, but it's worth noting! GTA ran at about 15fps on the last generation consoles. With a smooth 60fps, the cars do technically drive faster.

A 4k screen has twice the linear resolution as a 1080p screen, but four times the number of total pixels. 4k is twice as much as 1440p in terms of the total number of pixels, but not the resolution. I feel like the commenter probably meant the total number of pixels when they said 4k is twice of 1440p, and 1440p is twice of 1080p. By "taking into account the horizontal resolution", they probably meant horizontal resolution of 1080p = 1920, and horizontal resolution of 1440p = 2560. 2560/1920=1.333, and 1440/1080=1.333 so 1.333*1,333=1.778≈2. Similarily, 3840/2560=1.5, and 2160/1440=1.5, so 1.5*1.5=2.25≈2 times the number of pixels.

A line that doubles in size is twice as big A squre that doubles in size is 4 times bigger A cube that doubles in size is 8 times bigger (in volume) If we increases all the dimensions of a object, the total size will depend on how many different dimensions there are in that object. (2x=2x,, 2x2=4x,, 2x2x2=8x)
4:35 might mean total pixel count, meaning: 720p is not half of 1440p, but 1/4 since 1280*720 is 1/4 of 2560*1440. (Each seperate measurement is half so you'd need 4 720p screens to have a 1440p one.) The dude is still not right, 1440p has a total pixel count of around 3.6 million while 1080p is around 2 million but it's not insanely far off either

I have a beefyish PC so it's not a huge deal (lucky me got it built right before GPU prices hiked), but it still sucks to see they're right back to really having no reason for their hardware to exist now that the Deck is a thing.
2:08 you probably misunderstood what the person was trying to say. The speed of the storage device limits many things in games including movement speed. Having a fast ssd allows for the developer to increase the movement speed in the game because the ssd can load assets in much faster.
it's actually correct that 1080p is 4 times lower resolution than 4K, yes 3840 / 2 is 1920, but also 2160 / 2 is 1080, you can fit 1920x1080 four times into 3840x2160, so basically the dimensions are x2 but the total amount of pixels is x4 p.s. whoops other comments mentioned it already, sry for just repeating it. Then, to add something probably no one else mentioned, for power supply wattage, Its good to get almost twice what the system can draw under full load, as power supplies are most efficient at about 50% utilization. Yes it will work fine with less, but if you sum the cpu and gpu wattage, multiply by two, and get a psu almost the result, you will get a cool, quiet, efficient system, that will usually not have any trouble with transient spikes. In his case, ryzen 5900x is 105w and nvidia 2080 super is 250w... TDP is not super accurate measure of wattage but usually close enough. The result is 350w load, or 700w when multiplied by two. I'd get 600-660 watt psu for that, maybe 750w if overclocking. Reason for getting slightly less is, the system is usually never under 100% load other than when running stress tests. Not even the most demanding games manage to utilize all the resources fully.

5:58 funny you say that cause a good chunk of AAA games dont even optimize properly anymore. the 120 fps assumption is only for last gen titiles. as soon as newer ones come that take more advantage of hardware consoles will be back down to 30 fps. especially if they add forced raytracing
yea, I built my previous gaming pc back in 2011. I upgraded the GPU down the line to a 1060 and it runs fine even after overclocking the snot out of it from day one and keeping it at that speed for over a decade. shure, I have had some crashes which is to be expected from a computer being overclocked to the absolute limit but it outlived both the ps3 and ps4 for about the price of two ps4 consoles which I personally think is a bloody good deal. and to make the deal even better, I can pay my taxes, use CAD, watch youtube or twitch and edit photos in photoshop with it other than just game on it. and now when I have bought myself a new computer have I set up my old one as a storage server for me and my family and it will most likely live this way for many years to come. I now challenge anyone who thinks consoles outlive PCs to a duel and see if they are still actively using their PS3

You should probably make sure your own math is correct if you're gonna try to put somebody on blast in a video for that. 720p is one quarter of 1440p, not half. 1440p is about 44.4% of 4k. 1080p is 56% of 1440p.
