Console Wars - Batman Returns - Super Nintendo vs Sega Genesis 

I'm usually a Sega fanboy but in this case the SNES game deserved the sweep in all categories.

Actually, there ARE ending images in the SNES version. You have to beat the game on the hardest difficulty to get them.

Fantastic as always. The punching sound and the wall-smashing sound on the SNES is so effing great. I don't suppose you've considered doing a Phantom 2040 comparison?

I would totally watch a series of Sega CD vs Genesis games.

Actually, that batmobile stage is not mode 7, lot's of racing games on the genesis used a similar effect, mode 7 scales and rotates backgrounds to give it a 3d effect like F-Zero, Super Mario Kart and even the overhead stages in Contra 3, still, another great episode, can't wait for the next one, merry christmas guys.

Even as a die hard Sega fan I agree the Snes version wins every category hands down... but I like the idea of Sega games vs Sega CD versions :)

Throwing enemies into the wall in the SNES version always had such a satisfying sound...and the large, detailed sprites were great too!

I didn't know that Batman Returns on the NES or SNES was a thing until a few years ago. I really like the SNES game, but your points on why it has problems are totally spot on. Still cool though. Great video guys! And I'd love to see a Gens vs CD series.

Actually, I'm pretty sure the driving stages on the SNES aren't mode 7. It looks like line scrolling, like most racing games of that generation. In mode 7 games, the course tends to turn with the player when you make a turn, or maybe there's some specific details in the course... Well, it's kind of hard to explain, but you can really tell when you look at a line scrolling game vs a mode 7 game to compare. Look at the first level of Super Return of the Jedi, or the Snow Speeder level in Super Empire Strikes Back for example. Those are mode 7. Mode 7 is background mode #7 (from 0-7 modes) on the SNES which takes the entire plane and scales/rotates it. Line scrolling is typically scrolling line by line to create interesting effects, like Axelay for SNES, or Panorama Cotton on Genesis just as an example.

Awesome video as always. Never knew that Genesis and snes were completely different.

I love the details, moodiness, and deep purples of the Sega version, but it just gets too damn difficult at times. I could never pass the ferris wheel level. The SNES version is beatable on any difficulty.

Great video, and although i still love the Genesis version of Batman Returns , i have to admit that the Snes version is superior in every way, and it's why i love that version also . The SG offering went in an original direction and there are genuine moments of creative inspiration that sometimes pays dividends but the Snes game is just about perfect in every way concerning a movie to game adaptation

I actually liked the Sega CD version over the SNES game. Which was basically the same game as the Genesis version,but had multiple stages where you drove the Batmobile and had better music.

I dunno, that series of Genesis games vs their Sega CD counterpart MIGHT be worth looking into.

The Sega one is so satisfying. I am even playing it again now. I played the hell out of the snes version as a kid, but I still like the genesis version better. I like the challenge. It makes you slow down and think to get through certain parts. The manual even states you will need to do this.

As with "The adventures of Batman and Robin", the sega version of " Batman returns" is more abstract, whereas snes version is like a guide to original work

SNES version wins by a landslide just as I suspected it would. So looking forward to the next episode in your "worst of" list!

Wait, can't agree on the music? Wow..... the music in "Batman Returns" for the SNES game is based on the score to the movie composed by Danny Elfman(which I have no idea why you guys did not give him props)which is awesome. Best music? Hands down the SNES version of "Batman Returns".

Revolution X should be a fun episode

I still disagree with Streets of Rage 3 having better gameplay than Final Fight 3 in that other Console Wars video you guys did. Most other people would say that Final Fight 3 is actually the better of the two games. But at least you guys got it right in this video since most gamers DO also consider Batman Returns on SNES as the better gameplay than the one on Genesis! Good work!
