Can’t wait to see this aircraft in person. My dad was a tail gunner on a PB4Y2 in WWII. VP108 Z490 crew 13. He was on Pelieu, Iwo Jima and Tinian. Would love to sit (or lay?) in the tail gunners position just once, it would be amazing.

What a walk down memory lane. Dad was a nose gunner in a Privateer, VPB109, Crew 12, late 44 thru war's end.

My step dad was on the ground crews that serviced this aircraft type during WW2, He worked on the electrical systems. He was based in San Diego California, Before that,, he worked at the Martin bomber plant in Omaha Nebraska,

Wow…I didn’t know one with armament existed! There is an ERCO waist turret from one on display at Chino…I gotta see the Pima bird

My grandfather’s squadron flew these through typhoons for weather reconnaissance. He was stationed in Guam ‘48-‘52.

59819 was the aircraft at Galvestion back in the day. She moved to Pima in 2016.

I was so disappointed when the hurricane swamped the Lone Star Flight Museum in Galveston and the PB4Y2 was severely damaged. So much they decided it would never fly again so they sold it to Pima. I had been donating money to its flight restoration. It was a family thing, my dad, a Galveston native (as am I), was a crew chief on PBYs and PB4Y and Y2 aircraft. My mom worked building airplanes at Consolidated in WWII.

I'd been wondering about the one in Galveston too. Great to find from this thread what happened to it. Checked the Lone Star Flight Museum website recently to see about it and nothing is mentioned about this aircraft.
