Deputies and volunteers from the Travis County Constable, Precinct 5 will be issuing citations for people who are parked illegally in disabled parking spots over the weekend.
I fully agree with this. I have very dear friends in wheelchairs and I really irks me to see an able bodied person pull into a handicap spot, hang the placard, jump out and do their thing (shopping, etc.) and jump back in and leave. I would like to boot their wheels and have the vehicle impounded. AND yank the license in addition!
New stories like this always cheer me up. This issue became a pet peeve of mine years ago, when I saw a man park his Cadillac in a handicap space, and then JOG to the door of a shop that sold used golf equipment.
Why did the cop let that guy off? Did he really believe it was his 1st time and was in such a circumstance to make it highly unlikely he'd do it again?
My sweet late mother had a placard, and it never crossed my mind to use it when she wasn't in the car. The lack of empathy and increased entitlement is so prevalent in our society.
Hell's a poppin I'm a disabled vet too and I think It's wrong to fine these people who are parking in handicap parking...When caught just break both of their legs and then they are legal.
If you look poor or black, you get a ticket whether you deserve one or not. If you're a pretty white girl or you look like a well-heeled white man who might golf with the mayor, you're ticketproof.
@@wurly164 Yes yes, I know, anti-racism is racism, anti-fascism is fascism, war is peace, ignorance is strength, I know the routine. Oceania has _always_ been our enemy.
WHAT? The local court, the municipality and the state giving up income. Be careful with that talk of they will get you. Besides they will likely share it, maybe as much as .01 percent.
@@stratfordbaby handicapped spaces are always well designated, with wider parking lanes, signs, and paint on the pavement. If you're disabled, park in a standard parking spot.
I am a combat wounded veteran and although not disabled now, probably soon will be and it infuriates me to see these people using spots meant for those who need them. And it really is irritating when they are caught, that they are so obnoxious and cavalier about it.
I am a 100% rated disabled combat veteran and I too suffer from the same lack of adequate handicap parking spaces as well. I now suffer from crippling arthritis in my legs and hip due to some of my combat wounds making it very difficult to walk and sometimes I just have to abandon looking for a spot and come back another day when I'm unable to find a handicap spot.
CA... up to $3500 for parking in disabled... + up to $3500 for misuse of diabled placard + they tow it + impound fees. People still violate the handicap parking laws. Need to make it legal to slash their tires too.
F Huber completely bad idea. If that were legal you would have people out there that "think" they "know" who's disabled or not and wrongfully slashing tires of people who are doing no wrong.
Because the likelihood of someone ticketing them is still quite low. Slashing tires is malicious and will tie up the parking spot for hours until repairs are made. If it bothers you to the vicious point you should see if your locality has volunteer parking deputies. If not, you should get some consulting for your temper.
Walmart provides extra large handicapped spaces for handicapped vans with wheelchair ramps, but these spaces are always used by small cars, leaving vans no place to park.
In Cali it's $465 where I live and you loose the right to ever have one in your life. NO matter how bad you need it. I like that, most don't know so they could have just sawed through the limb they are sitting on.
"Parking carefully" ...... ! Parking in a clearly marked Handicap Bay, when NOT entitled, is not a matter of care, but a 'deliberate' and, in many cases, a pre-meditated & pre-planned Action. To describe it otherwise is to trivialise the Act. May I commend the Presenter reflects on his phraseology.
For some reason it's usually a certain type of young females using placards that clearly aren't theirs. I have to unload my mobility scooter into traffic many times. Yesterday a handivan was parked across two spots and the driver cursed at me when I asked her to move so I called the company and reportede her and sent a photo with the van across both spots.
Try Houston. I have never yet seen anyone ticketed for parking in a handicapped spot and they do it here WITHOUT placards, legal or not. Houston is the biggest joke in the western hemisphere with zero effort at solving or slowing burglaries, but DAMN do they arrest a bunch for prostitution. They CLAIM it's to fight forced prostitution of illegal immigrants, but the photos of the women arrested are almost always oriental women, old and ugly at that. They print photos of the "Johns" busted before a trial or plea and heartily pat themselves on the back for their "crime fighting" prowess. Handicapped parking violations are so far down on the cities priorities that the law is absolutely and totally worthless. Another fine example of our cops at "work". Recently the city VOTED FOR pay parity between the fire and police departments. The cops SUED and a sorry stinking ROTTEN excuse for a judge stopped the implementation of the law, VOTED on by the citizens. The cops here earn on average ten grand a year more than firefighters. A firefighter is THREE TIMES more likely to be killed in a job related incident than a cop. Cops here do NOTHING about handicapped parking violations, burglary, theft, sex crimes (check out the number of untouched rape kits in Houston), but the lazy worthless bums NEVER miss a coffee break. I have never, not once been in trouble with the law. But if that were my focus I couldn't find a better place to do it. Oh, as long as it didn't involve "crimes" of moral turpitude. Our city leaders are and have been for years hard left Democrats. People have what the two parties actually stand for so screwed up they vote for villains as a matter of course. The folks that run this city from the mayor to the beat cop couldn't care less for the citizens. They're in it for all they can get. Worthless trash. Cops in other places may be doing a good job. In Houston Texas they're worthless as teats on a boar hog.
People can be total deushes. I went to a Walgreens this past winter, the parking lot was pretty full except a handicap spot in front. I saw a woman park there. No disability tag on her rear view mirror. I followed her in,she looked like she just got done working out at the gym,I saw no disability about her. I pointed her out to a cashier,I went to my car and waited a few minutes and saw her come out. She didn't seem to rush out but I wondered if the cashier made an announcement. No respect!
That SOB should've been ticketed and the permit confiscated and DESTROYED. He's been using that permit for years guaranteed. The father is probably DEAD because he wasn't exactly a youngster himself!
And you are the expert? Did you think (uh sorry, maybe suspect would be a better choice in your case) suspect then his father really was in the store. He did not appear that he had been driving for years to say nothing of using a placard that long. My department will forgo the ticket if they surrender the illegal placard. Illegal in this case would be Dad is either home or , like you assume, deceased. If they refuse we issue a ticket and the judge will demand the placard so they lose it anyway but if cooperative saves a few bucks. If Dad is home, he will have to reapply and likely that inconvenience will inhibit lending out his placard.
That could cost you a very expensive paint job. All places have camera, very good camera to capture plate numbers of shop lifters as they run to the getaway car. They do the same for vandalism and both get a visit from law enforcement.
Iam disable in Harlingen Texas at Walmart at HEB across are t worse places I have park far away cuz some people take parking place n i seen them run 2 inside t store Please people stop doing that n report them
Hi i am from Ireland 🇮🇪, before i get my, permit, first i go to my doctor get my form filled in cost 25 euros, and with my application 35 euros for that, for 2 years and photo id on the back off my tag
Why would they do that?? These parks are for those who need them so always should be available for them, not just when there is a good chance of a ticket or worse.
I believe the Handicap permit was originally designed for the Handicap DRIVER. not her driver. If she is not driving then her driver should drop her off in front of the establishment and then find a spot wherever they can. am i wrong?
You are correct. These other twits are wrong. The driver would drop off the disabled passengers. Disabled people driving themselves is a new phenomenon only in the last few decades. In Canada the permits are designated with either D or P or D/P for DRIVER or PASSENGER or both.
They should make it 1000 !!!! Most people who park in the handicap spot's are just to lazy to find another spot !!!! Laziness is what it comes down to !!!!
My cousin dropped me off at emerg and when he came back I asked how far he had to walk, he said I was going to use my mom's plaque but it was out of date, I was enraged but I didn't say anything because he didn't end up parking there, his mom had been dead for a few years and he walked miles a day, ignorant, inconsiderate and lazy, I may have been out of a ride back home which was 45 min away but I would have been happy with it...
The bad part is like this cop!!, He lets a guy go who is using his dads parking permit, but then fines a guy who parked in a walk way. It should have been the other way around, plus he should have fined the driver plus took his dads permit away. Maybe he knew the guy or his dad. This is why there is so many illegal people parking in the much needed handicapped spaces. I wonder how many people he lets go every day. Needs a different job, maybe Meter Maid would fit him better.
Should be an offence to drive a huge vehicle when you cant even see out the windscreen because you are too small to see over the wheel. same as driving blind
Make the fine $1000.00 and 40 hours community service by repainting all the Disabled Parking floor signs. Maybe then these lazy jerks will recognize where NOT TO PARK!
In the county where I used to do disabled enforcement, there is a fine for leaving a cart in the handicapped space but most of the time we just ask them to move the cart. It's a hard one to enforce because a lot of times you don't see the people who leave them there, and the one's who do, we would just explain to them what the law is. I suppose if someone wanted to be a real jerk and leave it after we've asked them not to, then we could write a citation.
@@candykelly2705 Thank you for that! One woman slammed her shopping cart into my Mothers car and I jumped out and confronted her! She said to mind my own business. My Mother was in the car and she had a bad heart. She was catching her breath because she was upset. I said to this person that she made it my business and my Mother had a bad heart. She laughed at this. What I didn't know was that a police officer was watching the whole thing and came over. The woman didn't laugh after that. The woman said it was a joke and the kind officer said as he was writing her up that he had a funnier one. The officer looked after my Mother to make sure she was okay because She was handicapped and walked with a cane. He was very kind to her. So God bless you, and thank you for your enforcement work!
In One State In Australia, MotorBikes can Legally Park on any Footpath. (Sidewalk in your Country) So this wouldn't happen to this Biker. It frees up lots of Car parking for Cars.....NO Motorbike rider here would EVER park in a Handicapped Spot!
if people would stop to think about the hell those poor people go through just to get out of the house...and often have to turn back because they cant get a space or the stripped spaces next to their van parking is either filled with shopping carts or a non-handicapped car... It's heat breaking. Please stop doing it! Have some compassion.
Then you’d get a ticket then go to court to prove you are the person that the tag is assigned to. I know people that still used a placard of a deceased person.
Disabled spots are not for people who are: pregnant, in a rush, all the spots are empty so it's ok, sprained foot, ankle, knee, etc., no spots near the front are available, I didn't see the sign and a load of other b.s. excuses.
At first I thought that $750 for a first time offense was a lot for any ticket then I thought about it for a few minutes and realized that it can both be a hazard for a disabled person if they have to park in a normal spot.
They have to give WHAT to everybody? The placard or a summons? Neither is correct. A doctor who knowingly awards a handicap placard to someone not handicapped has committed a felony in my state. The officer has the option of issuing a citation, just like for speeding or a broken tail light. If you are just arriving and try to illegally park, I will offer the choice to move or get a ticket. If you are coming out "having been there only a minute' you get a citation. If you drive away you will get a request via registered mail to drop by the court and explain (a) why you parked illegally ($150 - way to cheap) and (b) why you drove off (up to $500)and why you disobeyed a special deputy ($500 plus unpaid resort time in the local crowbar hotel)
Hey anyone and everyone should be allowed 2 park where ever they want especially if the spots r open,if someone doesn't like it tuff, get up early especially if its black Friday
I had a total knee replacement 11/01/2017 on election day I went to vote, I gladly walked the distance without using a Handicap parking space, I did not ask my Doctor for a plackard. I figured it was physical therapy. The assholes of the world think they are above the law, I don't need to name you, you know who you are!
I have a handicap license plate but rarely make use of handicap spots. I have a tremor which can interfere with my balance, but it's not too bad. Somedays though I really need a handicap spot.
Seaworthy Hammy not everyone wants to have a disabled license plate because the plate is tied to that vehicle and it's just easier to have the placard especially if you are going out with a friend you take the placard and the DMV paper with you that corresponds with the placard.
I'll only be a minute" you mean. I tell them so will I, well that is a lie, it takes me about 2 minutes to writ the ticket because we have to look up court times and dates for that locale. It is the same for fire lanes, but the way.
Ken Johnson Well you don’t have to discuss it. Also, it’s HIPAA and if you were asked to discuss your disability by a Cop (which probably would not even happen) it wouldn’t be a HIPAA violation.
Then you’d get a ticket,go to court and explain it to the judge. People have used placards that were for deceased family members. Is that the right thing to do?
@@ixlr8395 The cop has instant access to info on to whom the placard was issued. If it IS you, fine, no questions asked. If NOT, yeah, you're gonna get questioned and likely ticketed. Gotta wonder if Ken Johnson IS in fact handicapped. Or just another sleazebag breaking the law and looking for ways to get away with it.
