In this video, I show you some simple hacks for constructing chords as well as "deconstructing" more complex jazz chords. First of all, we look at the standard "root, 3rd, 5th, 7th" patterns. However, many chords are much easier if we adopt the "root, 5th, 3rd, 7th" structure - the so called "violin chords" as used by Eric Johnson, Andy Summers and John Petrucci. I also briefly go into Allan Holdsworth's approach to chords by considering chord voicings in terms of "6ths". Basically, wherever we are on the fretboard, we should be able to construct a relevant chord voicing/inversion.
