Follow the construction of one of the most complex skyscrapers ever to make it off the drawing board. Its design is so radical that construction experts have turned to a building material never before used in skyscrapers. Known as One Thousand Museum, the Miami skyscraper was originally designed by Iraqi-British architect Zaha Hadid. [Originally aired in 2018]

It's called the Museum 1000 Building right there off of Biscayne, IDK's where "Scorpion" came from, I used to live off of 20th Street and 2nd Ct, in Overtown, literally across the street from where Wynwood begins. When they were building it, I'd never heard the title "Scorpion" in all my years living here (since 1995). Now, they're about halfway in with that atrocious bridge to complete the skyline. The building, however, is magnificent up close.

What a truly great name, Zaha. Not to mention the person who had it.

It's indeed a magnificent work of art. Zaha is surely a legend. The workers put all their efforts and knowledge in completing this grand building. Which makes them surely proud of themselves. It's another landdmark. I just don't like the name scorpion. Maybe because I'm Taiwanese and believe in Feng Shui.

Hadn't caught up on Miami's skyline in some time but got to visit recently while taking a cruise on RCL's Icon. Drive right into downtown and got to pass this wonderful looking tower a few times! There's certainly nothing like it, for sure, and the design instantly stood out. Cool to find a documentary on it!

How are you going to get the plumbing in there 😮 When that man said when an architect writes it it means it can be built. Have you ever seen a piece of paper refuse the pencil ? 😂 That's not true at all. Not just because it's drawn can you build it. This woman is excellent at keeping the function of what it is and the form of what it could.

The script's Purple Prose and fake drama are dreadful. A straight forward description of the work would have been sufficient. The real hero here are the structural engineers. they should habve been featured up front with Zahja Hadid.

This looks to be an overly complex and wasteful construction technique…each panel requires a separate mold, and all the packaging to ship the panels undamaged alone, would negate it as any sort of adaptable solution. In addition, the amount of rebar looks like 1/2 the volume of each poured column. Why not just make it out of steel?

Not that building single family, cookie cutter homes that stretch as far as the eye can see is the answer for working people either.

I think buildings like this are a waste of manpower and resources. They are monuments to ego. I would think that a structure like the Empire State Building will outlast buildings like the Scorpion... and be much safer in the long run. Even if I had the money I would never wish to live in a building that was purposely so difficult to build. Especially in a area subject to salt corrosion and hurricanes! I recall the high-rise building in Florida that collapsed a few years ago due to salt compromising the concrete's iron reinforcement. And it was built in a conventional manner! No thanks.

Surfside condo collapsed because of a design flaw that allowed water from the pool deck to seep into the garage. The corrosion wasn't due to salt water. And I'm not sure what you mean by building in a conventional manner. The Scorpion tower is built with concrete, steel and glass, which I believe are what most high rise building are made of. Just because it was difficult to build doesn't mean it won't last very long.

Absolutely not worth the price of the unit. bland lifeless, zero character and low ceilings. For that kind of money, you can buy a beautiful lawn with pool and a lush Casita circular driveway with fountain gates at the front of the driveway the house with character

🧐 1080p 😩😵‍💫 ...c'mon PBS! ffs! the film is documenting visual beauty and sculpture via architecture! And you post a grainy, artifact riddled, crunchy 1080p video?! this is bad, even on mobile.

Objectively, one of her lesser building designs. Plus I didn't care for the Ice Road Truckers reality TV approach taken here. But if it inspires folks to at least google Zaha Hadid and explore her career it would have succeeded in providing a valuable service. Finally, thank you @norman1619 for your comment in a now deleted thread here that gave me the perfect image of what bothered me about the approach taken in this documentary 😂
