contact cement is an amazing adhesive that I use everyday in my shop! here I show you a few of the many things that makes contact cement awesome and I test its bonding power!
This is a very good video. I wish I knew how to use this glue correctly years ago, but I never read the instructions. I treated it like school glue for years.
Great video, Allen. I switched to the NO DRIP GEL by Weldwood. Much better for doing mask hair. You can work faster with less drips. I add the crepe hair to the wet cement and then after it is dry, I add another layer. Any contact cement hairing tips?
@StiltbeastStudios Loving the basics videos, very helpful & people need the info! Question: Do you think that Polyfiber 2 would work for making 3d transfer prosthetic instead of cabosil? God it wold be nice if it would I hate working with cabosil for the reason it is bad for you. I always wear a respirator
you can, but it looks a bit chunky and not as smooth looking. since the transfer is normally done in a silicone mold none of that shows on the final piece. do you tint your PTM with acrylics?
@@StiltbeastStudios I do color with acrylics. I might try a small batch to see if it turns out chunky or not i n the end. Or Try Todd Debreceni was of thickening pros aide but it is a pain.
LOl awesome now I don't have to guess on some of these materials. LOL another big help. LOL Rubber to foam, rubber to nylon straps sandwiched between foam and rubber are all golden so far though. also, i don't just wear these around house, it;s 17 degrees outside and 4 inches of snow - I am 300 pounds. so my test is pretty dang harsh on the shoes. That was pretty impressive , the reaction to that solo cup. I wonder what happens when you dissolve solo cups in a batch of weldwood ( weldwood contains acetone and toluene ) and then use it in a bond. I am guessing the flammability is from the acetone content which I am also thinking is the evaporative part. although I did ignite some dry drips that I gathered from the outside of my bottle and they burn aggressively. i would not be wanting to wear any of this in a flame scene. LOL black thick smoke not good.
@@StiltbeastStudios yup burns like Clipped Fingernails when It's dry and caught on fire. Doesn't smell like a crematorium though, more chemicallish. LOL My Tevas : I have discovered the edges will start to separate when exposed to repeated bending in the Cold. I don't think a lot of people wear sandals in the 15 degree to 30 degree outdoor temps like I do though. But still good to know. I am waiting for it to warm up a bit, the i will scuff those areas that are coming apart and reapply. That 24 hour cure thing is a really great idea as well for the parts that really are not venting to the atmosphere. I'm thinking any wider surface should have at least that time to cure fully, You r channel is AWESOME FUN man! I'm not even a mask or horror fan really of any of that sort of thing kinda fan and really, The things you are showing makes me want to do some Gnarly art in a way I have never done before. Thanks!
What do you think of the water based contact cement? Eventually the regular contact cement will be outlawed for consumers use (the way many solvents are now by the Nannies running things here in in California ) so just wondering.
Your video most informative, coupled with your delightful personality. I use the original weldwood; can I thin it with acetone or lacquer thinner as opposed to xylene? Thank you.
@@StiltbeastStudios I thinned the contact cement with acetone and it seemed to work well. Glued two pieces of wood together and it held well, but perhaps would have been stronger if cement not thinned out. Thank you for your reply and all the best from New Rochelle N.Y.
throw it out, the brush costs .25 cents, thats what I do. but the contact cement will make the brush soft again, just dedicate that brush to contact cement
Hi Allen! I bought a new can of contact cement in august..decided to use in may,it was all dried up.any suggestions on how I may rejuvenate it ? please n thank you for all advice and sharing with us all these years !
@@StiltbeastStudios yes.thank u allen I belie ve it froze .it was in my truck a few weeks over winter ! glad to see you enjoying your quaranteen production !
It scares me to use it becasue it says not to use it in the house and that it sinks to the lowest point. Im using it outside LOL Do I need to put it in a small container. I bought a gallon LOL
I feel bad explaining something to someone named stupid dummy, but here goes- front facing cameras on phones record a mirror image- sometimes its easy to correct in editing, sometimes its not.
