Metzler isn't the first brand that comes to mind for sportbikes, but their K3 is the OEM tire on the new BMW S1000RR. The sweet '16 in this video had a whopping 4 miles on it and the tires to start the day. The K3 is Metzler's version of a dual purpose street and trackday tire. Down under they even use it as a race tire (but they also eat Vegemite, so...). Being treaded it makes tire reading very demonstrable, for which we are grateful.

Please take a few seconds at a time especially when I am pointing to areas of the tire to see what I am pointing at. Then listen (not look) at the explanation. Soon you will be dispensing your own witchcraft on your own tires :)

all I can see is a raised trailing edge in the groove pattern. which usually means rebound issue being too slow, is that right? Love your videos Dave!

Hi Dave, i have difficulties to find a 50/50 track/street tire for my duke 690 r 120/160. Priorities in order are heat up, grip, handling. I am uncertain between S21/S22, DRC2, Sportsmart TT, Conti Raceattack Comp Endurance and Racetec-RR K3. Thanks for your advice. Best regards, Tom

S22 & Michelin RS are the two most durable

@@catalystreactionsbw Durability does not matter. Priorities in order are heat up, grip, handling. :) I think conti or Metzler could be the one. What do you think?

hello..I ride r6 07. It seems to me that front tire is wearing on half lean part to quickly. I use newer model od Racetc rr k3... That much that front is completly weard out on half lean portion in the same time as rear.. Is that normal or I have suspension issue? I ride canyons, not track. Thnx
@catalystreactionsbw
@catalystreactionsbw 7 лет назад
That would be a set up issue on the front tire in that the forks "stay" in that area of travel too long creating a square section to the tire. You should look at how much travel you are using when leaning as the forks may be too soft or too stiff. With the rear tire that is where you apply the throttle hard, so it will wear the tire that way. Smoother application of the throttle as the bike comes off the edge of the tire will eliminate that.

Thank you. Issue is with front tyre. My set up was made for my weight and riding style... Maybe guy did it wrong or... I like how bike is behave, but I ve notice that problem on front tyre..

What tire is it by brand and model? What tire pressure do you use and how often do you check pressure
@mate0107
@mate0107 7 лет назад
Newer model of Racetec RR K3 ( different tread pattern than in this video). Metzeler recommended 2.5 bar on front, but I run 2.3 - 2.4 bars. I check it every 10 rides aprox....
@catalystreactionsbw
@catalystreactionsbw 7 лет назад
Lower pressure than recommended can accelerate wear. It might be worth an experiment for a week to run 2.7bar and see how the tire wear changes.

gonna take a guess and say you gotta be in CALI correct?

Yes, correct. Mostly Northern.

Worst experience ever have !! Rear tire is ok on 200's But front tire is horrible! No feed back you have no clue where u at at lean angles! Slide front all day dangerously at Jennings GP !! Thanks for cornering ABS saved my Butt !! And sett it the way you told me 32 hot rear and 34 hot front hot !! I could hold 3-4 second my hand on tire ! So it was nice hot
@catalystreactionsbw
@catalystreactionsbw 6 лет назад
As per message via FB, you find your own tire pressures and in this case, you need to go up 2psi at a time when hot. Different track require different pressures as ambient temps change, sometime dramatically during the day. Your morning track temperature will not be anywhere near the same as the afternoon and therefore, nor will your riding!
@george.ptauner7767

I still don't like the shape of the front tire !
@catalystreactionsbw
@catalystreactionsbw 6 лет назад
Until you make the changes in hot pressure, the tire will flex excessively and not give you the visual you like. Each session requires a little attention to the information the previous session gave you so your day can constantly evolve in a positive direction :)
