Dude....I do the same thing. I'm a Carpenter/Contractor and I excessively plan and create construction drawings and sometimes 3d models. Let me tell you, I have been able to fit stuff in tight spaces, modify errors/designs that would have only been picked up in the real world and so much more. You were very smart for doing it how you did. Also, by thoroughly researching your materials, and labor, you know, for the most part, what can and can't be done, and that can prevent you from getting ripped off, understand what contractors are talking about and know whether or not you got the proper job. There are a lot of "pros" out there that talk a good talk but don't possess the knowledge and information of a true professional. I'm not saying a DIYer is going to be as knowledgeable as a true professional, but a lot of guys have worked their trade and rely on the processes they have done for years, or what they have been taught, and don't change with the times or bother to learn how to do things differently. I'm in the process of researching and planning an H-Panel myself and I ended up on your video. Keep doing your thing man and good luck!

You made it work! But, if you had mounted the box to the other side of the struts using clips, you would have had full flexibility on where to mount it without drilling holes and fighting the struts. That is how most pros do it.

Before this build I'd physically gone out and seen numerous actual pedestals from public and private properties around the city secure the electrical panel the way I did. I'm sure there are other ways.

I know this is 3 years old, but I don't see the House Bill comments about the 30 amp 2-pole breaker. With the RV 30-amp being 120 volt, you only needed the one pole. 2-pole will work if you only use one side. What did you do to resolve this issue?
@MrGwizyadig
@MrGwizyadig 3 месяца назад
Do you know if the standard 30 amp breaker that comes included with an outdoor breaker box would be the correct breaker for the RV outlet? Or does it require the GFCI? (Home Depot has a combo that includes several breakers)

@thinkoutsidethecontainer 3 года назад
Hey Benji welcome to the journey. I'd say it took me about a week to 2 weeks of moderate use of SketchUp to get the hang of it. I wouldn't say I'm expert level but I know enough for my needs. Nice to hear you've bought land. Are you planning to build a container home too?
@unti419
@unti419 3 года назад
Is this panel going to serve your home? If so, i noticed that you used the same panel bus for both the ground and neutral conductors.The service disconnect is the last place you can do this and your house panel will be considered a sub panel and the neutral must be separated from ground. Neutrals can only be grounded at the service disconnect. I've subscribed and will watch your channel. I'm retired but still keep my license up to date. I can advise if you wish, Best wishes!
@thinkoutsidethecontainer
@thinkoutsidethecontainer 3 года назад
I'm aware of the sub panel aspect and how ground and neutral bars must be de-linked. Yes the pedestal in this video is service disconnect and the panel in the home will be the sub panel. This was another nugget I learned in my research. I would say I suffered from extreme "you dont know what you dont know" syndrome so I researched exhaustively to ensure I covered as many bases as possible.

Hey Chris, do need to get a permit to do this job? Very informative video!
@thinkoutsidethecontainer

I believe it's part of the building permit but I could be mistaken. Check with the county to be sure - and definitely remember my video is not a substitute for professional electrical help!! 😀👍 This is potentially risky and dangerous work!

Hi, how are you doing? My name is Mike and I also live in the Florida area. For a while now I've been trying to plan out a storage container build of my own. I had just a few questions. How do I go about asking if it's possible to build on a vacant lot? I know I should ask the country. Just didn't know exactly how to word an email or if I should call? Second how much were the fees associated with breaking in the ground. I know it varies from county to county. Thank you! Cant wait to see more updates! Good luck!!
@thinkoutsidethecontainer
@thinkoutsidethecontainer 3 года назад
Hey yeah the county is your best bet to get info on what is and isn't allowed. Additionally they can tell you what the zoning is for that lot. As for wording, my county is extremely professional and helpful so it didn't take much to just politely introduce myself and ask them a few preliminary questions. The county is supposed to be there to help so..... As for fees I'm assuming you mean permits....my county charged about $600 for the actual permit to build the home.

Are you sure you need a two pole breaker for the RV? That's 240 volt. Most RVs are 120 volt 30 amp
@thinkoutsidethecontainer
@thinkoutsidethecontainer 3 года назад
Hey great question. At the time Square D Homeline did not sell a 30 amp gfci single pole....only 2 pole. Maybe they still don't sell it idk. But from what I researched you can use the 2 pole since Square D Homeline doesn't have a 30 amp gfci in single pole.
@unti419
@unti419 3 года назад
@@thinkoutsidethecontainer Square D makes a 130 gfci in the QO series but I can't find one in the Homeline series. I paused the video to see what you did, that should work. I knew a guy that hooked 240 to his RV and fried a lot of electronics.
@thinkoutsidethecontainer
@thinkoutsidethecontainer 3 года назад
Yeah this whole gfci 1 pole thing caused a bit of headache back when researching....but yeah we discovered the 2 pole could work using the way we wired it etc. Nice catch btw, it was definitely a unique little riddle we had to solve
@unti419
@unti419 3 года назад

Where is the ground rod?
@thinkoutsidethecontainer
@thinkoutsidethecontainer 2 месяца назад
If you look around 27:05 you can see the copper wire extending underneath the pedestal going into the ground, which of course connects to the ground rod. As the numerous disclaimers throughout the video describe, this video is not a tutorial or substitute for hiring an electrician, so some details are ommitted.

ALTHOUGH THESE CONT. HOMES ARE A GREAT IDEA, WHAT PEOPLE FAIL TO REALIZE IS THAT THE WOODEN FLOORS ARE TREATED WITH "HIGHLY TOXIC INSECTACIDES" AND THEREFORE NOT SUITABLE FOR HUMAN INHABITATION.

Traditional homes have formaldehyde in them.
@eyediscovered
@eyediscovered 7 месяцев назад
Some people buy 1 time use containers that haven't transported dangerous chemicals, if you buy a container that's been used for years it can have any number of chemicals could be spilled inside. At minimum you should poly the floors to trap most VOC. I would be more worried about what was transported than chemicals used on floor. Basileum, tailileum 400, and radaleum, which act as pesticides on floor. Through studies conducted by the Center for Toxicology and Environmental Health, LLC, these compounds have selective toxicity to insects, not people. In doses absorbed from these being in your home should be safe. Also most pressure treated lumber contains arsenic, so take your pick for water resistant wood.

Why did you need a dual pole 30amp breaker when RV plug is only single pole? Just curious. Great video
