we've got a lot done since the last video. I'm doing a terrible job of recording the actual build process but I do want to give an update. last time we built a project I didn't take any photos or videos. so RU-vid's a great way for free cloud storage and so I just am making this video for anyone that wants to watch it as well as my future self.
The best part about being in the trades is you make connections with people and can trade work. also, subs are more likely to fit you into their schedule .
we got a pioneer ductless heat pump installed, all in 2200 bucks which I think is an absolute steal.
The snap lock roofing looks great and it matches the neighbor's house, we ordered the metal from a local company called integrity metal and they were able to bend everything up for us and got us the materials in less than 10 days. Savage roofing installed it for me and I can't believe how quickly they worked. only took them around six total hours. probably to get everything on. maybe less I wasn't there.
I was able to do all the flooring one night after work. took me about 5 hours. I've installed a few different click lock flooring and this has got to be my absolute favorite. it's very satisfying to install and is always a good indicator of how far along in the build you are. All I basically have to do now is put trim in and tile.
cabinets are always a interesting topic because some people like what they like and you can spend tens of thousands of dollars, but I prefer a cheaper approach. I've installed lower end cabinets and put on soft closed hinges and rollers and at the end of the day as long as you have nice countertops. no one really notices. especially when you're going with Shaker style cabinets, white is white and you wouldn't be able to tell a difference from a $300 cabinet base versus $150 cabinet base.
The pine we put in the soffit was a pain in the butt, and it takes about three people to install it efficiently. I recruited my brother and his father-in-law, one of them cut and the two of us hung it. I personally love the look of natural pine so we did not stain it. we never polyurethane it until it's already hung because if you get that clear coat on the tongue and groove side of things, you can have fitment issues when installing.
lastly, I love a statement piece for front doors and of all the ones that we looked at in the pamphlet this one spoke to us the most. we also felt that it was going to match the building the best. The color is carbon and it's the most I've ever spent on a front door.
