I don't agree with you that you need to have a massive barrel sized container to grow roses. I have 15 roses all planted in containers, the containers are 18-inch in diameter and performed beautifully for 4 years.

Hello! I live in Illinois and planned roses last year in containers. I have notices that this year all of my roses are not blooming. I don't know if because we are barely getting nice weather. Should I be worried or just give it time?

I live in Grover Beach, just a few miles away from SLO. We have a rather sandy soil. My question is how oftern do roses have to be watered? If I water every day every day, the leaves turn yellow and die, most likely indicating too much water. If I water every week, the tip of the rose leaves begin to dry. Also, roses do their best when planted on direct sunlight. Can roses be planted on partly shaded area?

Jorge, thanks for contacting Master Gardeners regarding your roses. Roses like to be in full sun at least 6 hours each day. In sandy soils they need amendments, such as compost, added to the soil. These add nutrients to the soil as well as help retain moisture. You can also apply mulch around the base of your plants which also minimizes moisture loss through evaporation. I’ve included some additional links about roses are. Good luck with your roses! mgsantaclara.ucanr.edu/garden-help/lawn-trees-shrubs/rose-care-in-santa-clara-county/ ucanr.edu/sites/VCMG/Growing_Healthy_Roses/

Hello! I live in the northwest. I have rose plant, that I planted last year, and I notice that a few weeks, after I planted on a pot, some of the leaves started to dry, along with the few roses that come with it. Couple days ago I loose the top soil, and add more soil and fertilizer. My question is, how often do I water and fertilizer? since it’s only couple of weeks into the spring?

Hi, I just received a florabunda rose tree . I don't know the first thing about roses.. can I put it in a giant pot? It says it's a 36 inch standard. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Thanks for contacting Master Gardeners! And congrats on your new rose. Your floribunda can go in a large pot, for instance 36” in diameter and at least 28-32” deep. However, at some point it will become rootbound, which may ultimately shorten its life. Good luck and enjoy!
