This is a wonderful message. Practicing Buddhist teachings in a materialistic and ego driven society can be very challenging but worth it.

We are all in a weird place now - you aren't alone and not the first to be experiencing family challenges from this. Stay on the path and do your best for your three kids, and it will all be ok. I am part of your sangha thinking of you and passing a little merit and blessings to you.

This was so good. Thank you, Ajahn Brahm. I understand the message having been a little girl once going to the dentist. Again, the lesson is that thinking about doing something often brings greater suffering than just doing it. I love how you keep repeating the basic lessons. I need to see if I can find anywhere a tape of you doing a meditation. Not now, though. I am too relaxed which is great. Sadhu. Sadhu. Sadhu. 🙏🙏🙏

I think I've experienced a "crisis of faith". I don't think anyone really understands anything at all.
@wuandondo4832
@wuandondo4832 4 года назад
No one does understand anything. We can’t say for certain what happens after death or what happened before. This is why contentment is important in our daily lives. Other living beings beside humans don’t focus on the past or future as much as we do. There is a positive thing to everything and every situation in your life. It is important to not accept, but appreciate what happens in life and spread that appreciation. It’s also really easy to doubt any faith, and that’s okay. No matter what faith you follow, we are all living beings, coexisting, and going through the exact same experience as everyone else. Everything has beauty in it. Whatever path you may choose throughout your spiritual journey, I hope you find peace and compassion every where you turn. 🙏

@@wuandondo4832 I appreciate your sentiments but you have no earthly idea what other living beings consider! You have NO WAY OF KNOWING if any animal has a concept of Time. However, some species DO show an ability to recognize Past from Present. Elephants, for example, in Africa pay homage/recognize and respect other elephants bones. They behave no differently than humans at a gravesite. I think there are some things Buddhism has going for it but it falls into all the same traps any other organized religions do. I think it's silly that in the 21stC, to become a monk or nun the person is required to believe Buddha hopped on a horse and rode it to the Moon. Preposterous! And it's exactly why "secular Buddhism" and Stephen Batchelor gained so many members so fast. I don't think he's any wiser for it but I understand why he's adapted the way he has. Most religions have the same problem: they ask you to believe total nonsense written by Bronze Age people, and then tell you something really bad will happen to you after death if you don't. It's a COMPLETE con job. Religion is used to control and influence the behavior of the herd for the benefit of the rich. It's why monks get fat while impugning other peoples self-discipline. FWIW, I don't need to be patted on the head by strangers online for any personal decisions I make. 😂 As I tried to make plain in my comment, "crisis of faith" is as close to a phrase I can think of to describe those times one has to evaluate and compare claims against the evidence we have of the phenomenal Universe. I haven't seen any holy book yet that has any evidentiary prospect at all of ever being correct and therefore NO holy book/s can or should be relied on to navigate life. And much like Christianity, Judaism, or Islam, Buddhism uses the idea of a Hell to frighten people into conforming their behavior to the rules some self-abusing nutjob in a desert came up with. They also use guilt and shame to manipulate behavior. Most religions start with the premise that humans are fundamentally bad, and I don't agree with that. I also don't agree with leaders lieing to people just because they haven't figured out a way to tell people the truth safely. And if it's a case where religion is adopted mostly because deep down humans fear their own mortality, at least cop to that. At least be honest that it's used as an anti-anxiety measure for death, but don't actually expect people in the 21stC to believe enormously ridiculous fairy tales that defy all the known laws of Physics. And of all people, Ajahn Brahm should know better. Horse can't fly. Period. "Mara" or "satan" are avatars for the dark side of human nature but people who can't handle that humans have that, they project it on to some fictional character they also invented. Any of the "positives" of religion, don't even require the religion if people would think about it. At least be *that* honest about it. I'm never surprised when I see religious leaders quit their faith. I'm more surprised when they don't, because what person with any legitimate claim to above average intelligence would accept Superstitions over Science? You know why people prefer Science? Because *it works*.

I thought of ending of life cause I failed in an exam ,then I thought why would I kill myself for the people who wants to bring u down , who feels happy to see u fail in life ,for those people who make friends with u for your fame n only when u r winning in life ... Rather I will live for my parents n siblings ,for whom if I die they would suffer for my deed... It's necessary to stop pleasing others n start havi g gratitude for this life n for people who put value to your life.. i realised that life itself is suffering, suffering of endless cycle of rebirth, we need to collect good merits n try to use our pain for building compassion for others who r suffering... I cannot escape suffering but if i accept the reality n let it go of guilty ,it liberates me , as life itself is uncertain, nothing is permanent,not me, my life ,so the problem, every thing changing.

If everybody was content all the time nothing would ever get done which would be a big problem in a world in which people rely on others. Nothing wrong with this practice, but it's a good thing society is not filled with monks.
