They say that nature doesn’t use wheels, so if we want to get organic movement out of a robot, perhaps we should use organic actuators, no? While this build doesn’t have muscles per se, it does have tendons that allow for more flexible motion that we don’t typically find in robot arms. Tentacle robotic mechanisms have been around in Hollywood special effects for years, but they don’t show up in hobby builds too often. Join DJ on his robot journey as he builds a continuum robot arm that will finally allow him to catch that Wiley Spider-Man: bit.ly/3nR7Dbu

Maybe putting 4 springs between the discs where the Kevlar threads run through would spread out the articulation over more of the tentacle than just the bottom part.

Another idea, woud be to add Magnetic Cubes (neodymium), assembled with oposite poles between the discs... so, the effect would be like the springs, but invisible...🤔

Loved this! I saw you actually had about eight holes or so in those discs. Imagine having eight kevlar strings and eight servos working together (in one hell of an algorythm) to make that movement tight and precise. Then you would be one step closer to Tony Stark ;) But again, loved the build and the amount of learning that would go into a project like this!

Your servos control only the last 3 disks. Add 2 more servos for the next 3 disks, and another 2 for the next 3. That will give you control of all the disks.

Remember a while ago you built gir?? What if you made him with this style arm!!! That’s my goal. I have watched that video so many times and one of these days I will build my own G I R unit xD I want to add some sort of conversational ai with quotes from the show I’d love to get in touch and talk more about it if you ever get the chance, I don’t have any smart people around me that can help me work out the kinks

As I know, the original design was simple lentil-shaped discs with holes around.

rubber oring or gasket on the edge of the pulley ring might be another friction option
